Frank Bamberger loved family most
Frank J. Bamberger loved his work and the high school from which he graduated. But he reserved his greatest love for his family.
"He was always there for me, " said his brother, Covington City Commissioner Jerry Bamberger. "When I wanted somebody to talk to, I could always call him. He had a big heart, and he really cared about peop le."
"The most important thing to him was his family, " said his daughter, Terri Nageleisen of Latonia. "He coached my brother in Knothole. He never missed anything we did."
Mr. Bamberger, 67, of Taylor Mill, died a 5:04 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington after suffering a heart attack while playing golf in Devou Park.
He was a retired barber and retired Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. employee, and a longtime su pporter of Holy Cross High School in Latonia.
Mr. Bamberger, his late wife, Shirley Wendling Bamberger, and their children were graduates of Holy Cross High School.
Mr. Bamberger was president of the Holy Cross Boosters Club. Even after his children had graduated, he seldom missed a Holy Cross athletic event.
As a young man, he worked with his father, Frank Bamberger, in Frank's Barber Shop in Laton ia while also working for CG&E.
"He worked at the barber shop two or three days a week, spending time with his dad, " said a son, Gary Bamberger of Covington.
He worked as a barber for nearly 25 years, retiring when his father retired. The younger Frank continued to work for CG&E, retiring in 1996 as a credit investigator.
"He taught me the importance of living every day to the fullest, that friends are precious. He lived his life with honesty and integrity, " Ms. Nageleisen said.
Shirley Bamberger died of a heart attack in 1996, shortly after her husband retired from CG&E; .
Gary Bamberger called his father his best friend.
"He was truly a joy to be around, " he said.
Other survivors include sisters, Betty Burger and Barb Klumpp, both of Taylor Mill; and two granddaughters.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Elmer C. Dietz, 74, state representative
Despite his dedication to politics, Elmer C. Dietz never let a debate or policy i ssue get between him and his other true love, his family.
As a Kentucky state representative, he would even bring his family to Frankfort during weekend s while the General Assembly was in session. Regular baby-sitters included state troopers.
"We would go down after school on Friday and come back Sunday evening, " said a son, Larry Dietz, of Crescent Springs. "I remember taking my wagon around the neighborhood and putting up campaign signs."
Mr. Dietz, 74, of Fort Mitchell, formerly of Ludlow, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Cen ter North Hospice Unit, Covington.
He also was a former Ludlow City Councilman and a retired electrician for Bertke Electric, Ci ncinnati; a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell; Brotherhood of Electrical Worker's No. 212, and Kehoe Council Knights of Columbus, Ludlow.
He was a former member of the Executive Committee of Kenton County Democratic Club, Ludlow Auxiliary Police, and Ludlow Fire Department, and a charter member of Ludlow Fire Department Boosters.
His wife, June LaMar Dietz, died in 1992.
"He would do anything to help the community. That's why he always stayed involved, " Larry Dietz said. "If you needed money for something, he would find a way to get it."
Other survivors include sons Mark Dietz of Melbourne, Ed Dietz of Florence and Jeff Schmidt of Independence; daughters, Carolyn Dietz of Crescent Springs, Peggy Bogenschutz of Villa Hills and Pam Edmondson of Taylor Mill; brothers, Victor Dietz of Fort Mitchell and Donald Dietz of Fort Wright; a sister, Mary Bessler of Park Hills; 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Catholic Blessing will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

William B. "Bud" Barnes, 82, of Independence, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.
He was retired from Cincinnati Milacron, a member of Visalia Baptist Church, Latonia, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Kenton County Utopia Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Howard Barnes; sons, Terry L. Barnes of In dependence and Timothy A. Barnes of Burlington; a daughter, Sandra L. Brewster of Independence; sisters, Betty Jaeger of California, Delores Ellzey of Crestview Hills and Margie Childs and Flora "Sis" Wlad ysh, both of Hamilton, Ohio; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Anna Catherine Cummins, 82, of Foster, died Friday at Augusta Health Care Center, Augusta.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, James Cummins, died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, James Robert "Bobby" Cummins of Foster; a daughter, Carolyn Ann Cox of Augusta; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lenoxburg Cemetery, Foster.
William E. Hayek, 74, of Erlanger, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was an electrician with Hayek Electric, a member of Elsmere Baptist Church, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mayme Hayek; sons, William Hayek Jr. of Union, Bobby Hayek of Florence, Joe Thompson of Elsmere and Darrell Thompson of Dayton; daughters, Angela Bethel of Burlington, Nancy Pruett of Latonia, Darlene Blanton of Arlington, Texas, and Cathy Carroll, Rose Barney and Joyce Hayek, all of Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Mary Plageman of Toledo; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

James Houston Paige Jr., 55, of Covington, died at 10:26 p.m. Thursday at his home.
He was a handyman, did home repairs, and was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Jane Kachulis Shirley; a daughter, Sherry Paige of Cincinnati; sons, Jason Paige, Daniel Paige, James H. Paige III and Shawn Paige, all of Cincinnati; mother, Ann Stevens Bertram of Hamilton, Ohio; a brother, Ronald Paige of Hamilton; and sisters, Linda Dean and Wanda Gerber, both of Hamilton.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Jeffrey A. Pfetzer 19, of Villa Hills, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday at the University of Kentucky, where he was a freshman.
Survivors include his parents, Sally and Tom Pfetzer of Villa Hills; a grandmother, Elaine O'Rourke of Cincinnati; and brothers, Christopher Pfetzer and Douglas Pfetzer, both of Villa Hills.
Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Monday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Gladys "Granny Bill" Gutman Scott, 88, of Crittenden, died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Latonia.
She was a homemkaer and a former factory worker. Her first husband, Dick Moore, and second husband, Bert Scott, both preceded her in death. A grandson, Lawson "Pop" Taylor, died in in 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lou Taylor of Crittenden; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
William Alan Straub, 2 months, of Fort Thomas, died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his mother, Christina Johnson of Fort Thomas; his father, Richard Straub of Covington; sisters, Nikeia Lane and Artie Johnson, both of Fort Thomas; and grandparents, Cheri and Richard Straub of Latonia and Tracy Karnes of Erlanger.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Sherrie Lynn Eibeck Turner, 47, of Berry, died Thursday en route to the hospital.
She was a teacher and operated Eibeck's Greenhouse, Pendleton County. She was a member of Summit Church of Christ, Alexandria.
Survivors include her husband, Alan T. "Tom" Turner; and mother, Jewell Dean Eibeck of Berry.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery, Falmouth.
