Lewis Cloud Hossman, truck driver, WWII vet
Lewis Cloud Hossman, 77, of Burlington, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Mr. Hossman suffered from cancer, diabetes and heart problems, said his widow, Betty Jane Carroll Hossman.
They were married
Sept. 30, 1944, while Mr. Hossman was on leave from the U.S. Navy.
He served on the U.S.S. Tutuila, an engine repair ship that supported combat ships in World War II.
According to the Mobile Riverine Force Association, "Tutuila served the Fleet as a floating advance base as it swept its way across the Pacific toward Japan.
For the final year of the war, the repair ship engaged in round-the-clock work schedules which seldom slackened."
After the war, Mr. Hossman drove a truck for Roadway Express. He sometimes was on the road for up to three days at a time.
"Many a time, he had come in and before the night was over they would call him back out again," his widow said, but he liked the work and liked seeing the country.
Mr. Hossman was a member of Hebron Lutheran Church and the Florence American Legion Post. A son, Dennis F. Hossman, died in 1989.
Besides his wife, other survivors include three daughters, Judy Kinser of Florence, Tammy Dyer of Verona and Sherrie Trapp of Burlington; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hebron Lutheran Church. Visitation begins there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery.

John Wesley Allen, 74, of Lexington, died Saturday at Bashford East Health Care Center, Louisville. He was a former employee of Poindexter Lumber Co. and an Army veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Carolyn Henry Allen, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Louis Allen of Midwest City, Okla.; daughters, Angela Henry and Lisa Allen, both of Lexington, and Dana Allen of Louisville; a brother, General Lee Allen of Cincinnati; sisters, Alverta Allen of Cincinnati and Lorain Gross of Arizona; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Jessamine County.
Martha Augusta Bakken, 84, of Solon Springs, Wis., died Monday at St. Francis in the Park, Superior, Wis. She was a member of Naomi Circle Group and was involved in Lutheran World Relief.
Survivors include daughters, Virginia Apple of Poplar, Wis., Kathleen Lindquist of Hermantown, Minn., and Eunice Garera of Florence; a sister, Marie Flamang of Hayward, Wis.; 11 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Solon Springs. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home, Solon Springs. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Solon Springs.
William Riley Beamon, 90, of Bonne Terre, Mo., formerly of Falmouth, died Monday at Parkland Health Center in Farmington, Mo. He was a retired employee of Fuller Manufacturing Co., Falmouth, and a member of Assembly of God Church, Bonne Terre. His first wife, Gladys Beamon, and son, William Beamon, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Beamon; daughters, Eleanor Draper and Virginia Jones, both of Cincinnati, Phyllis Whitaker of Chesapeake, Va., Patricia Newton of Louisville, Connie Cornille of Indianapolis and Vivian Carroll of Yelm, Wash.; sons, Richard Beamon of Harveysburg, Ohio, Frankie Beamon of Richardson, Texas, John Paul Beamon and Allen Ray Beamon, both of Indianapolis; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry.
Jerry A. Ellis, 60, of Ludlow, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired machinist with Kratz-Wilde Machine Tool Co. and a member of Epworth Methodist Church, Covington. His wife, Eva Ellis, died in 1992.
Survivors include five step grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Dona Wheeler Harmon, 81, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Carrollton, died April 29 at her home. She was a member of Ghent Baptist Church and the Ghent Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband, Forrest L. Harmon; a son, Michael Wheeler Brindley of Carrollton; stepsons, Don Harmon and Larry Harmon, both of Naples; a sister, Dodie Faye "Cush" Ogburn of Carrollton; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Florence M. Mahoney, 82, of Fort Thomas, died Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a bartender. Her husband, Charles R. Mahoney, and daughter, Carolyn Blaut, preceded her in death.
Survivors include seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Nurre-Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. James W. Marshall, 60, of Covington, died Tuesday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights.

William A. "Jack" Neal, 71, of Dry Ridge, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired employee of the federal government and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Neal; sons, Tony Neal of Radcliff and Ronnie Neal of Dry Ridge; stepsons, Bobby Fannin of Lawrenceburg, Ind., Marcus Fannin of Corinth and Joseph Fannin of Williamstown; a daughter, Sharon Simpson of Dry Ridge; a stepdaughter, Christy Hamilton of Georgetown; brothers, N. B. Neal Jr. of Dry Ridge and Randall Neal of Elsmere; a sister, Loretta Kelly of Dry Ridge; and 11 grandchildren.

Charlotte Webb O'Toole, 66, of Aurora, Ind., died at 9:55 p.m. Monday at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Ind. She was a homemaker. Her husband, James Edward O'Toole, died in 1993.
Survivors include daughters, Kim Lewis of Aurora and Florence Coldiron of Miamitown, Ohio; sons, John and Michael Earls and James O'Toole, both of Aurora; sisters, Rosemary Jones of Covington and Marcella Meyers of Cincinnati; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marie Joan Voskuhl, 69, of Charlestown, Ind., formerly of Florence, died Monday at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Ind. She was a medical technician and a member of St. Michael Church, Charlestown.
Survivors include a son, Kurt Voskuhl of Charlestown; daughters, Mary Lou Voskuhl of Charlestown and Sue Fox of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Paul Middendorf of Edgewood; sisters, Margaret Fitch of Lexington and Ruth Winchester of Crestview Hills; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Church, Charlestown. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown. Burial will be in Charlestown Cemetery.
Mary Hawes Wood, 88, of Fort Wright, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday at Highland Crossing Nursing Home, Covington. She was a journalist with The Cincinnati Post.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally Thomson of Covington; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington. A reception will follow at the Metropolitan Club, Covington. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
