William P. Spreher, manager of marina
William Porter Spreher, 70, of Highland Heights, manager of Southern Ohio Marina in Bellevue for 30 years, died Wednesday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center in Highland Heights.
Mr. Spreher also was a maintenance worker with the city of Fort Thomas.
He was a poll worker for the Republican Party, attended St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring and was a member of the Newport Elks and the American Association of Retired Persons.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War as chief of an airplane maintenance crew.
He often was named Crew Chief of the Month.
"Bill as an expert mechanic," said Mr. Spreher's wife of 50 years, Mary Mackey Spreher. "Even when he was home sick in bed, people would call him, and he would tell them how to fix their boat motor.
"He could fix all kinds of things. There wasn't a thing he wouldn't tackle. He was very out going. He was a good husband, good father and good for anybody who needed a hand. He was a lovely, lovely guy."
Mr. Spreher also was a ham radio operator.
"He talked with people around the world for 40 years," said Mrs. Spreher. "He loved it."
Other survivors include sons, David Spreher and William J. Spreher, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Michael Spreher of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Douglas Spreher and John Spreher, both of Dayton, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Cold Spring.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Cloyce "Bob" Ernest, 77, of Frankfort, died Tuesday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
He was a retired printer with the U.S. Playing Card Co., Cincinnati, a retired printing press operator for the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Ill., a member of Elk Lick Baptist Church and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Prather Ernest; a son, Mike Ernest of Phoenix; daughters, Joyce Miller of Phoenix and Juanita Ernest of Indiana; a sister, Mary Elizabeth King of Michigan; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton.

Harry D. Fite, 77, of Maysville, died at 11:04 a.m. Wednesday at his home.
He was a supervisor with Ford Motor Co., Cincinnati, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Fite, three sons, four daughters and three brothers.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville.
Visitation will begin there at noon Monday.
Burial will be in Ash Ridge, Ohio Cemetery.
Roberta "Bobbie" Rusch, 43, of Cincinnati, died Saturday at her home.
She was disabled.
Survivors include sons, Ronald Ernest Rusch of Newport and Jason Daniel Rusch of Burlington; her mother, Anna Bennett of Newport; sisters, Mary Ann Hisle of Dry Ridge, Dorothy A. Schooler of Newport, Juanita Morgan of Independence, Gloria Sexton of Taylor Mill and Gay Lange of Wilder; brothers, Alfred Bennett of Newport and Anthony Bennett; and two grandchildren.
Services were at 12:30 p.m. today at Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate.
Entombment was in Evergreen Mausoleum.
Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.
Clarence "Big C" Sprecher, 57, of Newport, died Wednesday at Mount Washington Care Center, Cincinnati.
Arrangements are pending at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.
Bobby Gayle Wainscott, 67, of Carrollton, died Thursday at Veterans Hospital, Louisville.
He was a retired employee of Overnite Trucking Co. and an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Beckham Wainscott; a daughter, Vickie Georgiev of Carrollton; sons, Rickie Wainscott and Jamie Wainscott, both of Carrollton, John Wainscott of Pendleton and Billie Wainscott of Seymour, Ind.; sisters, Freda Prather and Carol Ruth, both of Owenton, Jean Cromer of Dayton, Ohio, and Helen Jager of Campbellsport, Conn.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
