Ray Wadsworth, professional photographer
Roy John Wadsworth, a former Newport photographer and photographic lithographer for Hennegan Co. of Cincinnati, died Friday at the Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. He was 84.
The Newport resident helped produce colorful movie posters for theaters in downtown Cincinnat i and Northern Kentucky and also was a professional portrait and wedding photographer.
"He was a very calm, peaceful person, but he had a tremendous sense of humor," said his son, Mark Wadsworth of Alexandria.
Mr. Wadsworth had a lifelong interest in cameras. As a young man he captured scenes of the 19 37 flood on film. He was 18 and living in a second floor apartment with his parents in Newport when the water started ris ing. In a Kentucky Post story in 1987, he recalled lying in bed at night listening to the sound of oars as people rowed boats three feet below his window.
He and his wife, Chloe, had three sons and two daughters. A son, Paul, died of cancer at age 16 in 1966.
"We were a very close family," Mark Wadsworth said. "He was such a caring person. You coul d call him day or night and he was always there to help you."
Mr. Wadsworth's mother was in a nursing home for two years before she died in 1996 at age 9 7. "He visited her every day," said his son.
Mr. Wadsworth retired from Hennegan Printing in 1985 after 32 years. "He never had a lot of hobbies while we were growing up. He was always doing things with the family or around the house. But after he retired he took up golf and joined the (Leonard) Shore Senior Center at Lunken Field," his son said.
He and his wife traveled to Spain and London, and took trips with the Senior Center. He was a member of the Fort Thomas Retired Men's Club.
Survivors in addition to his wife and son include another son, John M. Wadsworth of Florence ; daughters, Eileen G. Herbst of Cincinnati and Teri J. Brinkman of Erlanger; and 11 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring.
Entombment will be in Vine Street Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Kenneth D. Ekross, 63, of West Palm Beach, Fla., died at 5:29 p.m. Thursday at Me adowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, Dona TenEyck Ekross; sons, K.C. Wiegand of Mays Lick, Kenneth Ekr oss Jr. of Denver Colo., Mark Wiegand of Jupiter, Fla., and Scott Wiegand of West Plains, Mo.; daughters, Kimberly Shepherd of Fulton, N.Y., Julie Crusellas of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Diedre Halley of Loveland, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Edith M. Garrison, 83, of Highland Heights, died at 4:36 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a retired draft board clerk for Campbell County.
Survivors include her sisters, Jean Gibson and June Pauly, both of Highland Heights.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funera l home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Lawrence "Judge" Kinney, 80, of Alexandria, died Friday at University Hospital, Ci ncinnati.
Arrangements are pending at Alexandria Funeral Home.
Lawrence Lawson, 82, of Independence, died at 11:38 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth M edical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired line distributor for National Distillers.
Survivors include his wife, Opal French Lawson; daughters, Caroline Willis of Milford, Ohio, and Janice Bryant of Verona; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at noon Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
Joyce Ann Long, 51, of Dayton, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a clerk for Village Thrift Store, Newport.
Survivors include her husband, Lonnie Long Sr. of Dayton; a daughter, Teresa Long of Dayton; a son, Lonnie Long Jr. of Dayton; parents, June and Philip Carius of Alexandria; a sister, Jacquelin Carius of Fort Thomas ; brothers, Jim Carius of Newport and Jon Carius of Alexandria; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Everg reen Cemetery, Southgate.
Theora "Theo" Marshall, 98, of Maumee, Ohio, formerly of Latonia, died Tuesday at Flower Hospital, Maumee.
She was a member and worker at Latonia Baptist Church. Her husband, Julian "Jude" Marshall, died in 1974.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha A. Rohman of Maumee; a grandson and two great-grandchild ren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee. Visitation b egins at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Ohio.
James Eugene McClure, 82, of Berry died Friday at his home.
He was a retired employee of TransAmerica Freightline, Dayton, Ohio, a member of St. William Church, Williamstown, the Williamstown VFW, and a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. His son, Robert McClure, die d in 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Spitler McClure; a son, Daniel Eugene McClure of Springboro, Ohio; daughters, Nancy Marie Prather of Florence and Joyce Suzanne Lee of Berry; nine grandchildren and nine great-gran dchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.
Bessie I. Paragin, 92, of Latonia, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Rosedale Manor Nurs ing Home, Latonia.
She was a retired waitress for Lermans Restaurant, Cincinnati. Her husband, William C. Paragi n, died in 1976.
Survivors include a son, Robert Winders of Brunswick, Maine; a daughter, LaVerne Garrigus of Covington; a brother, Elmer Royer of French Lick, Ind.; sisters, Mary Helen Mason of French Lick and Evelyn Stackhouse of West Baden, Ind.; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Sylus Troy Pierson, 8 days, of Walton, died Tuesday at Children's Hospital, Cincin nati.

William Porter Spreher, 70, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights.
He was a maintenance worker with the city of Fort Thomas, manager of the Southern Ohio Marina, Bellevue, a poll worker with the Republican Party and a member of St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring, Newport Elks and Ameri can Association of Retired Persons.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Mackey Spreher; sons, David Spreher and William J. Spreher, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Michael Spreher of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Douglas Spreher and John Spreher, both of Da yton, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
