Pauline Bramel Long, 'was a gift from God'
Pauline A. Bramel Long, 82, of Erlanger, a homemaker and member of Erlanger Baptist Church, died Tuesday at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
She belonged to the church's WMU club and the Ruth Sunday School Class.
"Put a ribbon on her, she was a gift from God," said Mrs. Long's grandson, David Hobbs, Jr. "She was our hero, the greatest woman we will ever know."
Mrs. Long's son, Jeoffrey K. Long of Lakeside Park, described his mother as "a quiet Christian who served faithfully."
"She loved her family dearly and her church," he said. "Her attitude and philosophy was to be a servant as her Lord had taught her.
"She was humble in spirit and ready to serve."
Mrs. Long's husband, Chester A. Long Sr., died in 1979.
Other survivors include sons, Gregory K. Long of Edgewood, Jonathan K. Long of Villa Hills, Chester A. "Cal" Long Jr. of Bur lington and Bradford K. Long of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; daughters, Re becca D. Long and Pamela D. Mer ritt, both of Erlanger, Kathleen D. Hobbs of Fort Mitchell, Laura L. Muldoon of Hebron and Leslie C. Donohoe of Villa Hills; a sister, Lucille Bright of Erlanger; a broth er, Adliacq "A. K." Bramel of Cincin nati; 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Erlanger Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the church's Chris tian Life Center.
Burial will be in Highland cemetery in Fort Mitchell.

Wanda Ward Barnes, 69, of Florence, died May 1 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired teacher and social worker.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Clancy Barnes; sons, Darrel W. Barnes Sr. of Erlanger, Gerald C. Barnes of Independence and Kenneth W. Barnes of Florence; a daughter, Marie A. Barnes of Florence; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Erlanger United Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to cancer research.
Wayne Fleek, 57, of Hebron, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a heavy equipment operator with Belleview Sand and Gravel Co., a member of the National Rifle Association and an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Faith Marie Fleek of Walton; sons, Jacob Charles Fleek and Billy Wayne Fleek, both of Hebron; his mother, Catherine Fleek of Dillsboro, Ind.; a sister, Carla Rohling of Owenton; a brother, Amual Fleek of Dillsboro; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery. Ruby "Granny" Gaylor, 75, of Morning View, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a cashier with In and Out Markets, a retired chief operator with Southern Bell in Knoxville, Tenn., and attended Berean Baptist Church, Independence. Her husband, Delmer Gaylor, died in 1995.
Survivors include sons, Ronald Gaylor of Morning View, Terry L. Gaylor of Knoxville and William L. Gaylor of Fort Mitchell; sisters, Disa Fraiser, Mary Loveday and Pratricia Ryan, all of Florida; a brother, Joseph H. Pate of Knoxville; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorials services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Berean Baptist Church. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio. Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Dobbling Funeral Home, 241 Fairfield Ave., Bellevue, Ky. 41073.
James E. "Grounie" Gifford, 74, of Sardis, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a retired employee of Carnation Co., Maysville, and a former member of the Sardis Volunteer Fire Department and Sardis Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Doris French Gifford; daughters, Kathy Gifford and Patty Workman, both of Sardis, and Beverly Gifford of Tollesboro; sons, Mike Gifford and Barry Gifford, both of Mays Lick, and David Gifford of Robertson County; brothers, Richard Gifford and Elwood Gifford, both of Mays Lick; a sister, Wanda Fowler of Maysville; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Loretto E. Kelly Northcutt, 91, of Latonia, died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired lead saleswoman for Shillito's Department Store in Cincinnati and a member of Northern Kentucky Senior Citizens. Her husband, J. Franklin Northcutt, died in 1984. A son, Frank J. Northcutt, died on Feb. 9.
Survivors include daughters, Betty Ishmael of Falmouth and Dorothy Weisenberger of Cincinnati; a son, John F. Northcutt of Ocala, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Evelyn Sims Polly, 72, of London, formerly of Mason and Grant counties, died Tuesday at Marymount Medical Center, London. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer Polly; a son, Richard Burton of Cincinnati; sisters, Rachel Helton of Covington, Thelma Sims of Covington, Shirley Waldrop and Helen Riley, both of Cincinnati; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Richard Schilling, 79, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Tuesday at his home.

Georgette N. Schmidt, 82, of Highland Heights, died Tuesday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights. She was a retired assembler with Paul Smith Co., Cincinnati. Her husband, Verner Jacob Schmidt, died in 1982.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Alice Riley of Highland Heights; a son, Verner John "Butch" Schmidt of Port St. Lucy, Fla.; brothers, Norbert Feldman and Robert Feldman, both of Cincinnati; sisters, Florence Hummel of Atlanta, and Rosemary Hubbard of Mason, Ohio; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Irene H. Slaughter, 90, of Worthville, died Tuesday at her home. She was a retired telephone operator and a member of Owenton First Christian Church. Her husband, Revel Slaughter, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Ann H. Horst of Bradenton, Fla.; nieces and nephews.

Harry Edgar Smothers, 47, of Union, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a disabled veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Lori Smothers; a son, Aaron Smothers of Columbus, Ohio; daughters, Christine Smothers of Latonia and Annie Smothers of Columbus; brothers, John Smothers III of Kansas City, Kan., and Ernest Smothers of Oakton, Va.; and sisters, Hazel Stamm of Independence and Inge Breeden of Bedford.
