Edgar A. Holloway, 77, accountant, motivator
Edgar A. Holloway had a brain for business, but it was his heart that made him motivate others to achieve, especially when it came to education.
"It was very important to his mother that he got a college education, " said Jan Holloway of Edgewood, a daughter of Mr. Holloway. "I think that's why he always took an interest in the education of others. . . . He would help anyone that showed on honest effort."
Those whose education he took an interest in included everyone from his grandson to a waiter at the Oriental Wok, a restaurant Mr. Holloway ate at frequently.
Mr. Holloway, 77, of Edgewood, died May 15 at his home.
His support of education extended to a foster care program his daughter directed.
He gave gifts to children in the program who were working hard in school.
"He was very supportive, " Jan Holloway said. "He always donat ed the gifts anonymously."
Mr. Holloway was an accountant and executive with Diamond Crystal Salt Co. and Diamond International Corp. in New York, and Cudahy Co., Phoenix. He re tired as vice president of finance for Clorox Co. in Oakland, Calif. He was a member of the Financial Executive Institute, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Jeffersontown Rotary Club. He was profiled in publications of "Who's Who in America." His wife, Bettye M. Holloway, preceded him in death.
Mr. Holloway earned his accounting degree from the University of Louisville and when he retired in 1985, returned to Kentucky to be near his daughter.
In his free time he visited every U.S. state except for Alaska and also enjoyed working in his gar den.
Other survivors include a brother, William Benoit Holloway of Louise, Miss., and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. June 2 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. June 2. Burial was in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Opal Virginia Abney, 85, of Alexandria, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a supervisor and clerk with Kresge 5&10 Department Store, Newport.
Survivors include a son, Delmous Penrod of Alexandria; a sister, Ruth Ramsey of Newport; brothers, Arnold Fetters of Newport and Garland Fetters of Alexandria; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
Helen Ackley, 82, of Florence, died Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a retired clerk with Selective Service and a member of Florence United Methodist. She was a past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star Harlan County Chapter, a past chairwoman of the Democratic Women's Club in Harlan County and a member of the Harlan County Homemakers. Her husband, Richard Julian Ackley, died in 2000.
Survivors include sons, Carlyle Ackley of Florence and David Ackley of Middletown, Ohio; a daughter, Linda Ackley of Latonia; a sister, Geneva Martin of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Olivet Methodist Church, Rectorville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Olivet Church Cemetery. John Wayne Adams, 61, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Dayton, died April 21 in Raleigh. He was a chemist specializing in research and development of printing ink, and was a member of the Bob White Club, Cold Spring.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Adams; a son, Mike Adams; daughters, Kimberly Doran and Amberly Doran; and a grandson.
Services have already been held. Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh, handled arrangements.
Diana Lynch Bellows, 43, of Newport, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Tashina Vawter, Justina Vawter and Kristina Vawter, all of Newport; sisters, Brenda McGee of Covington, Sharon Jackson and Jeannie Lynch, both of Phoenix, Shela Lillie of Ripley, Ohio, and Pamela Wilson of Mount Orab, Ohio; and brothers, Al Lynch of Anderson, Ind., Roy Lynch of Lynchburg, Ohio, Bobby Lynch of Milford, Edward Lynch and Mike Lynch, both of Cincinnati.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Nora Christine Daniel, 66, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a medical assistant with Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence, and a member of Florence Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Herschell Daniel; daughters, Elaine Quinn of Pensacola, Fla., and Sharon Cox of Paris; sons, Lee Daniel of Jackson, Tenn., and Rick Daniel of Florence; sisters, Emma Wooten of Pensacola, Ann Miniard and Fran Fausz, both of Troy, Ala.; brothers, James C. Canada of Alexandria and John Canada of Troy; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Betty Frischholz, 76, of Southgate, died Wednesday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Jack Frischholz, and a son, Steve Thiery, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Nancy Bailey of Alexandria and Karen Weddle of Florence; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Alice B. Hall, 78, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with Campbell County Senior Citizens and New Hope Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Hertsel Hall of Newport; daughters, Amanda Kilmer and Sharon Kilmer, both of Fort Thomas, and Jean Streitenberger of Cincinnati; brothers, Charles Brock of Valrico, Fla., and Ralph Brock of Newport; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Brenda L. Menefee, 50, of Florence, died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a waitress with Perkins restaurants.
Survivors include a son, Ottis Bravard of Florence; a daughter, Bertha Bravard of Florence; a sister, Patricia Johnson of Covington; a brother, Dan Roberts of Texas; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Flat Rock Cemetery, Whitley City.
Katherine Murrell, 51, of Butler, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Edgewood. She was a retired employee of Disabled American Veterans in Cold Spring, and a member of Butler Full Gospel Church.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Murrell of Butler; brothers, Sammy Murrell of Sun Valley and Danny Murrell of Grants Lick; and sisters, Barbara Hutchison of Falmouth, Phyllis Mason, Darelene Murrell and Terry Murrell, all of Butler.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery. Memorials are sug gested to the Cancer Society, in care of Dottie Simon, U.S. 27, Butler, Ky. 41006.
Ronald Gene Piccirillo Jr., 40, of Pomona, Calif., formerly of Newport, died May 13 in California of a heart attack. He was a shipping foreman.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Piccirillo; a son, Ronald "Geno" Piccirillo of Pomona; a daughter, Theresa Piccirillo of Pomona; his mother, Joyce Watson of Newport; his father and step-mother, Ronald and Brenda Piccirillo of Fort Wright; brothers, Michael Piccirillo, Kenny Piccirillo and Richard Watson, all of Newport, Danny Piccirillo of Dayton and Darren Piccirillo of Garden Grove, Calif.; a sister, Karen Williams of Florence; and grandmother, Mary Piccirillo of Highland Heights.
Services were Monday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Covina, Calif.
Gertrude Schnorr, 98, of Butler, died April 26 at Beechknoll Community Nursing Home, Cincinnati. She was a hotel laundry worker and a former employee of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Survivors include her husband, William Schnorr.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Plum Creek Church Cemetery, Butler.
Carl V. Siebert, 89, of Erlanger, died at 8:02 a.m. Tuesday at Atria at Summit Hills, Crestview Hills. He was a retired photo engraver with Deluxe Photo Engraving, Cincinnati, a former member of the National Rifle Association and a Mason. His wife, Marjorie Jane Shorey Siebert, died in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Gary R. Siebert of Villa Hills; a daughter, Marlene J. Arnold of New Port Richey, Fla.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Virginia Ann Sligh, 53, of Covington, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a nurse's aide with Madonna Manor, Villa Hills.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Drew of Covington; a daughter, Annie Lee Sligh of Covington; brothers, Steven Sligh of Newhall, Calif., William DeGraw of Marysville, Ohio, and LeGrande Mason of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and sisters, Wendy L. Sligh and LeeAnn G. Sligh, both of Florida.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Madonna Manor Chapel, Villa Hills. Mrs. Sligh bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Catchen Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Gertrude Spicer, 71, of Dayton, died Tuesday at her home.
She was a housekeeper with Western-Southern Life Insurance Co.
Survivors include her husband, Porter Spicer; sons, Daniel Crager and Kenner Griffith, both of Newport, Sam Crager of Cincinnati, James Spicer of Dayton, Ohio, and William Stephens of Jackson, Miss.; daughters, Dorothy Crager of Dayton and Diana Roberts of Covington; 32 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Baltimore Pike Cemetery, Cincinnati.
Carl Vernon Young, 86, of Bellevue, died Tuesday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights. He was a retired cafeteria worker for Western-Southern Life Insurance Co. and an Army veteran of World War II.
His wife, Lucy Young, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Helen Dean of Lexington, JoAnn Merida of Cold Spring and Carla Tyznik of Houston; a son, Deward Noel of Dayton; a brother, Elmer Young of Newport; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
