Bill Fischer, 52, fencing company owner and farmer
Bill Fischer, 52, of Taylor Mill, who operated a fencing company and also was a farmer, died Saturday of an apparent heart attack at his farm in Independence.
He was owner of Heart wood Fence Co. in Taylor Mill and raised cattle on his farm.
Mr. Fischer was a member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia and a member of the Holy Cross High School Athletics Boosters. He also was a former track team member at the University of Kentucky.
"He was the best husband and dad any one could have, " said Mr. Fischer's wife of 23 years, Joan Louise Bohmer Fischer.
"He was very giving and very helpful. He took kids on camping trips. He raised money for school athletics."
Mr. Fischer was very interested in horses and many of the fences he built were for people who raised them.
"He gave horseback riding lessons and was a blacksmith who shoed horses for about 10 years, " said Mrs. Fischer.
Other survivors include his sons, Nathan W. Fischer, Nicholas M. Fisher and Joseph R. Fischer, all of Taylor Mill; his mother, Emma M. Fischer of Taylor Mill; brothers, Robert A. Fischer of Independence, Bernard J. Fischer of Plano, Texas, and Brian D. Fischer of Taylor Mill; and sisters, Carol F. Warken and Kathleen M. Warken, both of Taylor Mill.
Mass of Christian burial will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Monroe "Roll" Asher, 55, of Dayton, died at 5:33 a.m. Saturday at his home. He was a self-employed house painter and a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses, Fort Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley "Crickett" Scrivner Asher; sons, Jefferey Monroe Asher and Tracey Lynn Asher, both of Dayton; a daughter, Kelly Asher Thurman of Dayton; his mother, Mahala Couch Asher of Cincinnati; brothers, William Carl Asher and Danny Ray Asher, both of Cincinnati, and Robert Asher of Owenton; sisters, Louise Benitez of Newport, Shirley West and Georgia Ellis, both of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Dayton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.
William E. Conway, 84, of Maysville, died Sunday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a tobacco and cattle farmer and a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, Lexa Thomas Conway; sons, Tommy Conway of Mays Lick, Pat Conway, Mike Conway and Jack Conway, all of Maysville, and Johnny Conway of Cincinnati; daughters, Elaine Green of Orlando, Fla., Ann Kramer of West Union, Ohio, Diane Stafford of Athens, Ohio, Emily Conley and Jill Newton, both of Maysville; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Edmond G. Cooper, 85, of Maysville, died at 9:25 a.m. Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a retired employee of General Motors in Cincinnati, a member of Mays Lick Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. His first wife, Billie Juanita King Cooper, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Cleaver Cooper; a son, Jack Cooper of Columbus, Ind.; a sister, Eva Gross of LaFollette, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Nelson Crawford, 74, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired furnace operator with Interlake Steel, Newport, a member of Locust Pike Free Pentecostal Church in Covington and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Lois Lee Crawford, died Jan. 19. Sons, Charles Lee Crawford and Gary Nelson Crawford, died in 1969 and 1979, respectively.
Survivors include daughters, Janelle Crawford and Tammy Vance, both of Independence; a son, Bert Crawford of Independence; a brother, Melvin Crawford of Covington; sisters, Louise Parker of Independence, Dorothy Shell of Covington and JoAnn Sutherland of West Virginia; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Richard Dickman, 83, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Robert George Friedhoff, 80, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a machine operator with Kent Corp. His wife, Lee Friedhoff, died in 1981.
Survivors include daughters, Kim Miller of Florence, and Donna Claypool of Elsmere; sons, Howard Russell of Union, and Royce Russell of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Phillip Friedhoff of Fort Mitchell; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ray Abner Grigson, 86, of Brooksville, died Saturday at Maysville Extended Care Center. He was a farmer and a member of Berlin Baptist Church. His wife, Mable Grigson, died in 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Raye Lonaker of Brooksville; a sister, Alberta Courts of Zephyrhills, Fla.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Kaylyn N. Kalb, 7, of Covington, died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Covington. She was a student at Ludlow Elementary School.

William S. Manning, 49, of Newport, died Friday at his home. He was a computer pro grammer and a part-time employee of CVS, Newport. He was a former Wilder police officer.

E. Ellen Gallatin Martin, 83, of Crescent Park, died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired clerical worker for the Cincinnati Stock Yards. Her husband, William D. Martin, died in 1989.
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Turner of Crescent Park.

Joseph H. Mayer, 83, of Wilder, died Friday at his home.
He was a self-employed upholsterer and a member of St. Therese Church, Southgate. He served at the 7 a.m. Mass for many years at the church, was an eucharistic minister and a member of the church Holy Name Society. His wife, Theresa Mayer, died in 1994.
Services will be at daughters, Ann Doyle of Cold Spring, Margie Neiser of Alexandria, and Mary Smith of Wilder; a son, Joe Mayer of Wilder; a sister, Anna M. Meyer of Fort Mitchell; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was a retried employee of Lewis-Levine Dress Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Fort Mitchell Baptist Church. She was a member of the church's Missionary Society. Her husband, Alfred Phelps, died in 1968.

Elizabeth Ross Reno, 92, of Cynthiana, died Friday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. She was a homemaker, a former Cynthiana Police Department dispatcher, and a member of Cynthiana Christian Church and the Harrison County Garden Club. Her husband, Malcolm Reno, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, John Ross Reno of Harrison County; a sister, Maude Paxton Caldwell of Lexington; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Emil Joseph Schmidt Sr., 71, of Fort Wright, died at 3 a.m. Sunday at his home. He was a carpenter and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

Hilda Stringer, 93, of Villa Hills, died at 1:50 p.m. March 25 at Madonna Manor, Villa Hills. She was a retired apartment building manager. Her husband, William Stringer, died in 1993.

Martha Jane Houchens Traylor, 95, of Owenton, died Friday at New Horizon Medical Center, Owenton. She was a teacher with schools in Monterey, Sparta and New Liberty, and was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church. Her husband, Estill Gordon "E. G." Traylor, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Robert Darryl Traylor of New Liberty; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Richard Howard Willen, 73, of Latonia, died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday at Madonna Manor, Villa Hills. He was a retired maintenance worker with Donaldson Art and Sign Co. and an Army veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Dorothy Willen, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Willen of Fort Wright; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
