Margaret Reinhardt, 82, had strong love for her children
After graduating second in her class from Campbell County High School, Margaret J. Field Reinhardt considered a career in law.
But, as friends and family will tell you, that would have been too easy. Instead, she decided to become a loving wife and mother, raising eight children on the family farm.
"When I think of her, the first word that comes to my mind is sacrifice, " said a son, state Rep. Jon David Reinhardt, of Alexandria. "I don't remember a day that I woke up when she wasn't already working or a night that I went to bed when she wasn't still busy."
Mrs. Reinhardt, 82, of Alexandria, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a former cook at Alexandria Elementa ry and a volunteer at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas, and attended First Baptist Church of Cold Spring.
Although her family was large, Mrs. Reinhardt had a way of making each child feel special. Her love of children made her encour age them to excel, which is why a "C" on a report card was not acceptable.
Her love extended to other children as well. A daughter, Scheryl Buda, of Macon, Ga., remembers her mother's outrage when children at her school cafeteria were denied lunch because they couldn't afford to pay.
"She spent most of her time looking out for other people, " Mrs. Buda said. "Even if a kid was a troublemaker, she found the good in them."
By the mid-1980s, when her husband had retired and all her children had moved out, Mrs. Reinhardt made a announcement: She was going to open her own craft shop in Alexandria.
Mrs. Reinhardt operated Mums & Pops Craft Shoppe for more than five years. True to her nature, she only closed the store because a relative had taken ill and she wanted to use the time to care for him.
