John Seng Jr., owner of landscaping service
John Seng Jr., 79, of Crescent Springs, retired owner of J. Seng Landscaping and Tree Service, died Wednesday at his home.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 44th Infantry Division in Germany and France.
"His first job as a youngster was working for a landscaper and he really got attached to the business, " said Mr. Seng's brother, Elmer Seng of Verona.
After World War II, Mr. Seng worked for the Southern Railroad until 1955, when he opened his own landscaping business. In 1974 the name of the firm changed to Astro Lawn Care.
Mr. Seng semi-retired in 1988 and turned the company over to his son, Dwight Seng, of Burlington, who now owns the business. John Seng continued to work there until 1995.
Mr. Seng was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping.
"He was always helping other people, " said Elmer Seng. "If you needed help in any way, shape or form, he would figure out how to help you.
"We all loved him dearly. He was a great brother."
Other survivors include his wife, Betty Seng; daughters, Boneita Crone and Marlene Bailey, both of Glencoe, Vivian Nash of Lexington, Laura Butler of Fort Mitchell, Rita Steenken of Villa Hills and Debra McCabe of Ja ckson, Tenn.; stepsons, Kenny Baumgardner and Steve Baumgardner, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepdaughters, Debbie Dees of Breathitt Co. and Glenda Clowers of Ooltewah, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, nine great-gran dchildren, six step-great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Rosanna Marie Cooper, 48, of Bellevue, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was an employee of Atlas Dry Cleaners and Dixie Chili, Newport.
Survivors include daughters, Michelle Woodyard of Bellevue and Amy Haynes of Florence; a son, Jamie Kruse of Florence; brothers, Davey Cooper of Independence and Shawn Cooper of Newport; sisters, Betty Noonchester and Sheila Cooper, both of Newport, Kathy Howard of Edgewood and Barb Flack of Vero Beach, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Elizabeth "Betty" Tippenhauer Doyle, 82, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of Corpus Christi Church, Newport. She was former treasurer of Daughters of Isabella, Newport Circle No. 88 and the Seniors Golden Age and Hilltoppers groups. Her husband, Frank W. Doyle, died in 1977.
Survivors include sons, Bob Doyle of Alexandria, Jim Doyle of Cold Spring and Tom Doyle of Me lbourne; brothers, Edward Tippenhauer and Nick Tippenhauer, both of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Church, Newport. A reception will follow. Mrs. Doyle bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Anna Bell Wood Duncan, 85, of Falmouth, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. She was a bus driver with Pendleton County Schools and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Pendleton County, where she was a Sunday school teacher, taught vacation Bible school classes and sang in the choir. He husband, Charles "Pete" Duncan, died in 1999. A son, Norman Keith Duncan, died in 1936.
Survivors include daughters, Wanda Gosney of Demossville and Melody Williams of Wheelersburg, Ohio; a sister, Faye Rucker of Highland Heights; brothers, Kenneth Wood of Carrollton, Randall Wood of Cold Spring and Phillip Woods of Falmouth; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Nursing Department, 238 Barnes Road, Williamstown, Ky. 41097.
George Franklin Herald Jr., 40, of Walton, died at 9:50 p.m. Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a former manager of flight operations with Comair at the the Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Survivors include his wife, Laurie Goebel Herald; a son, Mason Herald of Walton; his mother, Carol Toney of Wilder; a sister, Angie Markus of Fort Thomas; and brothers, Eugene Herald and William Herald, both of Falmouth.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery, Union.
Emmett F. Ireland Jr., 56, of Fort Mitchell, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
Brenda McNabb, 51, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at Hospice of the Bluegrass, Lexington. She was a teacher's aide at Eastside Elementary School, Cynthiana, and a member of Elmarch United Methodist Church in Cynthiana.
Survivors include her husband, Gary McNabb; a daughter, Tammy Dawn Free of Harrison County; a brother, Lewis Edward Adams of Harrison County; sisters, Jennie Wagner of Paris, Ruth Waldon of Augusta, Ga., and Geneva Moore of Millersburg; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Raymond Schmidt, 65, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Otto Siegrist, 89, of Fort Wright, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday at his home.
He was the retired home builder and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Ruth Siegrist, died in 1948.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Siegrist of Hebron; sons, Gary Siegrist of Fort Wright and Ronald Siegrist of Florida; sisters, Leona Schmidt of Coldwater, Ohio, Barbara Kreutzjans of Fort Wright and Imelda Wilker of St. Mary, Ohio; brothers, Urban Siegrist of Fort Wright and Edwin Siegrist of St. Peter, Ohio; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial was this morning at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Burial was in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Sister Mary Regina, S.N.D., formerly Loretta O. Back, 86, of Park Hills, died at 12: 15 p.m. Tuesday at the Sisters of Notre Dame convent, Covington.
She was a former librarian with the Diocese of Covington and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
Survivors include brothers, Robert Back, William Back and Paul Back, all of Ohio; and sisters, Mary Dyer of Ohio and Theresa Thom as of Georgia.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 tonight at the convent chapel. Visitation will be fr om 4 to 7 p.m. at the convent Provincial House. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the convent cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sisters of Notre Dame, 1601 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, Ky. 41011. Sharon Hankins Spears, 69, of Williamstown, died Wednesday at her home.
