Michael Jannelli, 56, traffic manager
If anything else had been wrong with him, Michael Marcello Jannelli might have had some warning.
Mr. Jannelli, 56, of Hebron, died Monday at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center following a brief illness.
The doctor called it sudden cardiac death - plaque broke loose from one of his arteries, causing a major heart attack, said his widow, Elaine Jannelli.
He suffered the attack April 15 and never regained consciousness, but he lived long enough for his wife and five daughters to say goodbye.
Mr. Jannelli worked as a certified traffic manager for Fluor-Fernald Inc., directing the transportation of hazardous waste from the Fernald Superfund site in Ohio.
He had physical exams monthly to check for radiation levels and the like, his widow said. Those exams would have uncovered lots of health problems, but not the condition that killed him.
Ms. Jannelli described her husband as a man who had a knack with people and for whom his church was very important.
He volunteered for five years as a bishop for the Northern Kentucky Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was like a second job for him, she said - he oversaw the spiritual and material needs of about 700 church members.
Mr. Jannelli liked to do things to help people, she said, such as counseling a co-worker who had a relative with cancer, or fixing a neighbor's fence after the family dog escaped through it.
He had planned to go on a mission with the Mormon church when he retired. If he could have worked full-time for the church, he would have, Ms. Jannelli said. "He did a lot for so many people, " she said.
