Imelda Anneken, retired teacher

Imelda Jean Anneken, of Erlanger, a Northern Kentucky school teacher for 30 years, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was 70.

Ms. Anneken taught 20 years at Dorothy Howell Elementary School in Elsmere and 10 years at St. Joseph School in Crescent Springs. She retired in 1989.

She earned bachelor and master degrees from Xavier University, graduating summa cum laude both times.

"She never married and teaching gave her a chance to have a lot of children, " said Ms. Anneken's brother, David Anneken of Fort Mitchell.

"She loved teaching children and working with them. I think she was so devoted to teaching because she felt she was doing something important and because she liked kids.

"She was very intelligent and read a lot. She was very kind and personable. She was very much a giving person who loved to help people."

Ms. Anneken was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, St. Henry Church in Elsmere and the St. Henry Altar Society.

Other survivors include a sister, Ann Dodd of Erlanger; a brother, William Anneken of Miami Township, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Henry Church in Elsmere. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., 1250 Hylan Blvd., Suite 4B, Staten Island, N.Y., 10305, or the charity of one's choice.

Mary Magdalene Burchnell, 85, of Newport, died at 5:05 p.m. Monday at the Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Jerome Roy Burchnell, died in 1988.

Survivors include a son, Jack Burchnell of Newport; a sister, Betty Adams of Lecanto, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen cemetery Chapel, Southgate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Vivian C. Burns, 76, of Covington, died Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a health care worker.

Survivors include her nephews, Richard Moore of Fishers, Ind., Jeffery Moore of Cincinnati and Kevin Moore of Hebron.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mother of God cemetery Chapel, Fort Wright. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Covington, Ky. 41011; or Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Northern Kentucky, 7101 Pleasant Valley Road, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Irene Cottey, 88, of Brooksville, died Monday at Bracken County Health Care Center, Brooksville. She was a retired factory worker, a member of Concord United Methodist Church, Concord United Methodist Women, Milford Homemakers, Order of the Eastern Star, Bracken Countians for Literacy and a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen King of Brooksville; a sister, Katherine Henry of the state of New York; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Concord United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville.

Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 West McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Russell Ferguson, 60, of Hallandale Beach, Fla., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died April 11 at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla.

He was a retired sprinkler fitter with Local 669.

He also was a musician, songwriter and performer.

His "Cincinnati Baseball Saga" was about the Cincinnati Reds.

Survivors include his wife, Ronnie Sue Ferguson; a daughter, Lisa Ferguson Gomez of Hollywood, Fla.; sons, James Richardson of Hollywood, Fla. and Jeff Richardson of Fort Lauderdale; brothers, Ray Ferguson of Lakeside Park and Rodney Ferguson of Lake Worth, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Services were held in Florida. Wintter Family Funeral Services, Hollywood, Fla., was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Lee Ballinger Hitch, 90, of Erlanger, died at 8 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Erlanger Christian Church. Her husband, Harry E. Hitch, died in 1998.

Survivors include a son, Eddie Hitch of Park Hills; and a sister, Alma Webb of Lexington.

Services will be at noon Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Wanda Louise Roberts, 62, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Edgemont Manor Nursing and Convalescent Home, Cynthiana. She was a homemaker and a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church.

Survivors include sisters, Priscilla Dean Garrison of Cloverdale, Ind., Billie Jean Moore of Cynthiana and Connie Sue Ward of Southport, Fla.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike Street, Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.

Joyce E. Kilgour Sturgeon, 63, of Covington, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

She was a retired mail sorter with McGraw-Hill Printing Co., Boone County, and a cashier with Save A Lot, Covington.

Survivors include sons, Mike Sturgeon of Independence, Tony Sturgeon of Latonia and Ron Sturgeon of Covington; sisters, Margie Hurst of Latonia and Jackie Voll of Cincinnati; brothers, Dan Case of Taylor Mill and Jerry Case of Latonia; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Joe A. True, 79, of Bronston, died Thursday at his home. He was a painting contractor and an Army veteran of World War II. His first wife, Vera True, died in 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Campbell of Bronston; sons, Steve True of Park Hills and Alan True of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Gina Hartke of Simpsonville, S.C.; brothers, Kenneth True of Taylor Mill, Fenton True of Ryland Heights and Charlie True of Cold Spring; a sister, Ruth Knoll of Perrysburg, Ohio; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Monday in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville. Memorials are suggested to American Legion Post No. 38, 500 Enterprise Drive, Somerset, Ky. 42501.

Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, handled the arrangements.

Corrine Warner, 77, of Warsaw, died Sunday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a member of Consolidated Second Baptist Church, Warsaw.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Purdue of Carrollton; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Consolidated Second Baptist Church, Warsaw. Burial will be in Consolidated Second Baptist Cemetery, Warsaw. Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Carrollton, is handling arrangements.

Bertha Jane Williamson, 104, of Covington, died Monday at Garrard Convalescent Center, Covington.

She was a retired housekeeper for St. Elizabeth Hospital and a member of Wesleyan Christian Church, Covington. Her husband, Clarence Brent Williamson, died in 1961, and her sons, Howard Williamson and Clarence Williamson, died in 1986 and 1987, respectively.

Survivors include eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Wesleyan Christian Church, 32 W. 8th St., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Sheila Kathryn Wrenn, 55, of Carrollton, died Monday at her home. She was an employee of Wal-Mart and was a member of Dean Memorial Methodist Church, Carrollton.

Survivors include her husband, Francis E. Wrenn; daughters, Autumn K. Onkst of Lexington and Sarrah E. Kilby of Richmond; sons, Chris Wrenn of Florence and Eric Wrenn of Richmond; brothers, Larry Warner and Dale Warner, both of Union; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Richwood Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
