Catherine Matracia, 84, 'a good neighbor'
Catherine Matracia defined the term "good neighbor." She lived in the same house on Kyles Lane for more than 50 years and was beloved by those in her Fort Wright neighborhood for her giving heart, thoughtfulness and reliability at critical moments.
"She was always kind and always doing things to help people, " said her daughter, Mary C. Walker, of Milford, Ohio. "Once, she even took a neighbor to the hospital to have a baby."
Ms. Matracia, 84, of Fort Wright, died at 9:39 p.m. Tuesday at the Baptist Village Care Center, Erlanger.
She was a homemaker who in addition to raising her two daughters kept the books for the produce business her husband, Fred Matracia, ran for years in Covington.
He died in 1989.
Her life revolved around her children, then her grandchildren, then her great-grandchildren. "She just loved them, " Mrs. Walker said.
Mrs. Matracia was a member for more than 50 years of Madison Avenue Christian Church, Covington.
Survivors in addition to Ms. Walker include a daughter, Betty A. Beagle of Highland Heights; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Madison Avenue Christian Church.
Visitation is at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Theodore Lawrence Ashworth, 70 of Micanopy, Fla., formerly of Covington, died Monday at North Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, Fla.
He was a retired ticket reservation supervisor for Delta Air Lines and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a sister, Pamella Combs of Walton.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Florence Baptist Church.

Frances Egbring, 78, of Florence, formerly of Latonia, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Owen Egbring, died in 1975.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Vance of Latonia; a son, Jerry Egbring of Florence; and tw o grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Viola F. Gaskins, 84, of Southgate, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

Wilbert Conrad "Bill" Hill, 78, of Carrollton, died Tuesday at Baptist Hospital East, Louisville.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, an Army veteran and a member of St. Joh n Church, Carrollton.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Jo Miller Hill; a daughter, Francie Strohmeier of Owenton; a brother, Alfred Hill of Carrollton; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton, with prayers at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Wayne Landrum, 61, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a self-employed truck driver, a member of Latonia Baptist Church and a Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Landrum; a daughter, Dena Talbott of Elsmere; sons, Jake Landrum of Florence, Doug Landrum of Kentucky and Mike Landrum and Brian Landrum, both of Covington; a brother, Dale E. Landrum of Florence; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
David Lowe, 79, of Independence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Shirley Willmoth Mignerey, 73, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
She was a ward clerk for St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Survivors include her sons, Mark Mignerey of Fort Thomas and Matthew Mignerey of Los Angeles; a daughter, Michele Mignerey of Bellevue; sisters, Sissy Hamilton of Cold Spring, Glenda Nelson of Glendale, Ohio, Carol Price of Silver Grove and Lois Staton and Burnetta Traylor, both of Fort Thomas; and brothers, Donald Willmoth, Lester Willmoth and Marshal Willmoth, all of Cold Spring.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Family will recei ve friends Saturday after the service until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary C. Bey Mullins, 93, of Covington, died at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia.
She was a retired clerk for Kay's Laundry, Covington, and a member of Mother of God Church, Covington.
Her husband, John Mullins, died in February.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Gilbert "Duke" Riley, 80, of Florence, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence .
He was a retired certified master technician for Kenton County Motors, a farmer and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Malone Riley; sons, Stanley V. Riley of Florence, Sam R. Riley of Carrollton and Gilbert Riley Jr. of Verona; a daughter, Bea "Nellie" Honeycutt of Florence; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.
