Rev. Herman Meadors, 76, evangelist in Ky. and Ohio

Rev. Herman Meadors, who preached throughout Kentucky and Cincinnati, died Thursday at his home in Pleasant Ridge, Ohio.

He was 76.

Rev. Meadors was pastor of the New Hope Pentecostal Church of God in Norwood, Ohio.

He also was an evangelist, preaching in Covington, Newport, Walton, Williamsburg, Somerset and Hazard.

He and his wife, the late Agnes Myers Meadors, grew up in Williamsburg, Ky. He served in the Navy in World War II in the Pacific, including Iwo Jima.

When he returned home, he married Agnes Myers and they moved to Batavia, Ohio, and raised their family. Meadors was an insurance salesman, but he felt called to spread God's word and became an evangelist.

For several years he worked in insurance and also preached, said his daughter, Lona Carr of Cincinnati.

"He always wanted to take care of someone else, " she said. "He would give his last dime to someone else."

In 1965 he became a full-time pastor.

"If anyone needed him, he was there. I remember the phone ring ing at night and he'd go. He'd sit in the hospital with people. He was always with the peopl e of th church, " his daughter said.

His wife died in 1995.

Rev. Meadors became ill in September and thought he had had a stroke, but he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, his daughter said.

Survivors in addition to Ms. Carr, include daughters Vera Meadors and Charlotte Meadors, both of Cincinnati, and Joyce Greber of Batavia, Ohio; a son, Herman E. Meadors of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers Arlie and John Meadors, both of Bethel, Ohio, Marvin Meadors of Northern Kentucky, Walter Meadors of Blanchester, Ohio; sisters Ethel Perkins of Bethel, Darlene Sherrill of Owensville, Ohio, Gloria Jean St. John of Nashville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Bethel Pentecostal Church of God, Bethel, Ohio.

Visitation will be overnight - from 5 p.m. Monday until the time of services Tuesday - at the church.

Burial will be in Williamsburg Cemetery, Williamsburg, Ohio.

Cooper Funeral Home in Grants Lick is handling of arrangements.

Genevieve "Jean" Arrasmith, 92, of Warsaw, died Friday at Gallatin County Health C are Center, Warsaw.

She was a retired secretary for Boaz Ashland Oil, Warsaw, and a member of Warsaw Baptist Church. Her husband, Elmer Arrasmith, died in 1957.

Survivors include a grandson, Jeff O'Donnell of Sparta; a granddaughter, Patty Aylor of Taylor Mill; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Paint Lick Baptist Church, Steele Bottom Road, Warsaw, Ky. 41095.

Harry C. Barton, 83, of Falmouth, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was a welder. A son, Dennis Kilgore, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Barton; daughters, Delena Kilgore of Newport, Cynthia Kilgore of Bellevue, Lisa Barnes of Cape Coral, Fla., Tashma Sinclair of Butler and Lasheena Kilgore of Dayton; sons, Steve Kilgore of Dayton, Marshall Kilgore of Ohio, Shane Kilgore of Fort Thomas and George Kilgore, Hank Kilgore and Rock Kilgore, all of Bellevue; 47 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth .

Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Dayton, is handling the arrangements.

Mark A. Dick, 45, of Nashville, Tenn., died Wednesday at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville.

He was a member of Epworth Methodist Church, Covington.

Survivors include a son, John Dick of Indianapolis, Ind.; his father, Charles "Bud" Dick of Covington; and a sister, Sherry Earl of Erlanger.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Jason Daniel Guilkey, 14, of Newport, died Wednesday at his home.

He was a student at Newport Middle School.

Survivors include his father, Keith Guilkey of Newport; mother, Tonya Guy of Burlington; a sister, Julia Al faro of Burlington; a brother, Tyler Stuttler of Burlington; stepbrothers, James Pearson and Trevor Pearson, both of Newport; stepsisters, Megan Guilkey and ChassityMcFadden, both of Newport; maternal grandmother, Silvia Meyers of Mount Zion; paternal grandfather, Daniel Guilkey of Newport; and maternal grandfathers, Richard Bartlett of Bellevue and Larry Emery of Taylor Mill.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Janet L. Hadden, 67, of Covington, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.

She was a homemaker. Her husband, John M. Hadden, died in 1994.

Survivors include daughters, Donna Cook and Linda Hadden, both of Newport, and Karan Hadden, Janet Frazier, Sandy Hadden and Sara Hadden, all of Covington; sons, John Hadden of Brooksville and Richard Hadden of Covington; a sister, June Campbell of Florence; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Mary Ellen Lillis, 62, of Cincinnati, formerly of Latonia, died at 4:35 p.m. Thursday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Western Hills, Cincinnati.

She was a telephone operator for Air Tite Window Company, Cincinnati, and a member of St. William Church, Price Hill, Cincinnati.

Survivors include her sisters, Anne Hackman of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Jeanne Colley of Cincinnati; and brothers, Richard Lillis of South Bend, Ind., John Lillis of Gastonia, N.C., Timothy Lillis of Latonia and James Lillis and Mark Lillis, both of Cincinnati.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at St. William Church . Burial will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery, Price Hill.

Evelyn Hancock McKibben, 80, of Augusta, died Thursday at Maysville Extended Care.

She was a member of St. Augustine Church, Augusta; Daughters of the American Revolution, Augusta; and Daphne Club, Augusta. Her husband, Harold Lynn McKibben, died in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Michael Lynn McKibben of New York City; and a granddaughter.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Augustine Church . Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery, Bracken County.

Oscar McQueen, 84, of Independence, died Friday at Veterans Hospital, Lexington.

He was a retired machinist with the William Powell Valve Co., Cincinnati, a member of the Community Pentecostal Church, Independence, and Disabled American Veterans, and a World War II Army veteran. His wife, Edna McQueen, died in 1994.

Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Kem Landrum of Independence, Gale Perkins of Florence, Diane Holden of Cincinnati and Judy Bauer of Erlanger; a son, Donald McQueen of Covington; sisters, Ella Sams of Columbus, Ohio, Mae Chandler of Indiana, Lori Gugala and Annie Hensley, both of Hamilton, Ohio, and Pearl Gibson and Delphia Hale, both of Manchester; brothers, Walter McQueen and Kelly McQueen, both of Indiana, and Oakley McQueen and Charlie McQueen, both of Hamilton, Ohio; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grand-daughter.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Ruth O'Rourke, 61, of Florence, died Friday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.

Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron.

Thelma Ella Preston, 67, of Ludlow, formerly of Danville, died Tuesday at her home.< p> She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Robert Preston of Hickory, N.C.; sisters, Mary Gamble of Garland, Texas, and Maria Preston of Lancaster; brothers, Edgar Lee McElroy of Lancaster, Bobby McElroy and Johnny McElroy, both of Danville and Kenneth McElroy, Paul McElroy and Gilbert McElroy, all of Stanford; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Junction City Cemetery, Boyle County.

Marcella Pohlman, 87, of Coving ton, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Helen Pohlman of Covington.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Bernice H. Schappert, 81, of Cincinnati, died Thursday at Wesley Hall Nursing Home, Cincinnati.

She was a data entry operator with Southern Ohio Bank, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Bernard Church, Dayton, and Dayton Seniors.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Mills of Dayton; and a sister, Mary Feiler of Bellevue.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday St. Bernard Church, Dayton. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Alan Jay "Shaggy" Smith, 33, of Alexandria, died at 11:07 p.m. Thursday at his home.

He was an employee of ZF Ford Motor Co., Batavia, Ohio, formerly employed at Rafferty's and Cracker Barrel Restaurants, Florence, and a member of First Baptist Church of Cold Spring.

Survivors include a daughter, Emily Smith of Independence; a stepson, Jurgen Fecher of Independence; parents, Grace and Arthur Smith of Alexandria; and a sister, Robin Jewell of Taylor Mill.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport.

Visitation will be at noon Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Tip Smith Sr., 82, of Newport, died Friday at his home.

He was a retired sheet metal worker with Cincinnati Sheet Metal Co. and a member of Old Time Holiness Church, Newport.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Smith; a daughter, Sara Junius of Cincinnati; a son, Tip Smith Jr. of Bellevue; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
