John Joseph Schoemehl, 73, noted practical joker
John Joseph Schoemehl liked to have fun in life, and he did that until the very end.
Mr. Schoemehl and his wife, Anna, went out to lunch Tuesday.
"He ordered the biggest beer they had and the biggest hamburg er they had, and he told the wait ress not to look for the glass 'cause he was taking it home with him, " Mrs. Schoemehl said. "He was having a good time and then he just slumped over and that was it."
Mr. Schoemehl, 73, of Fort Wright, was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood, after suffering a massive heart attack, his wife said.
"He died doing what he loved, putting people on and eating and drinking, " Mrs. Schoemehl said.
Mr. Schoemehl was a noted practical joker who liked to give everyone nicknames. He himself was called "Slicker" by his friends; his wife says she had no idea how that got started.
"He liked to tell jokes and stories. He used to put my mother on something terrible. But she was too fond of him to get mad at him."
He was an avid outdoorsman until illness curtailed his activity. He liked to hunt and fish, and grew up trapping muskrats and mink, whose pelts he would sell, Mrs. Schoemehl said.
Mr. Schoemehl was a retired salesman with Southern Ohio Builders Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Hoosier Highlands Inc. in Poland, Ind., and the Lookout Heights Civic Club of Fort Wright. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Ter'e Yount of Eminence; and one grandson.

Hazel Bailey, 68, of Independence, died Wednesday at her home.
Arrangements are pending at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington.
Virginia W. Clark, 77, of Richmond, formerly of Harrison County, died Tuesday at Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center, Richmond. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of Southern Hills Methodist Church in Lexington.
Survivors include a daughter, Marthanna Whaley of Winchester; and brothers, Forrest C. Hill of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Myron S. Hill of Paris.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.
Helne Rose Claus, 68, of Latonia, died Tuesday at her home.

Leola E. Davis, 87, of Newport, died at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was a retired cleaning lady with Hogan, Nolan, Keeler and Stites Advertising, Cincinnati. Her husband, Robert "Cliff" Davis Sr., died in 1972. Sons, Robert C. Davis Jr. and Lawrence R. Davis, died in 1974 and 2001, respective ly.
Survivors include daughters, Carlena Szanti of Cincinnati, Cecelia Butsch of Park Hills and Mona Barton of Newport; a son, Leroy C. Davis of Wilder; 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport.
Visitation will begin there at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Paul Day, 72, of Williamstown, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.

Bessie Mae Wuest Federer, 86, of Bellevue, died Monday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a former nurse's aide at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas, and a member of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue. She was a member of the Christian Mother Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John, was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and Sacred Heart School cafeteria, and a former Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include daughters Joyce Gorman of San Diego, Connie Lillis of Fort Thomas and Audrey O'Hara of Bellevue; a son, Joseph Wuest of Fort Thomas; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Kathleen Heringer, 57, of Edgewood, died Wednesday at Meadowbrook Care Center, Cincinnati.

Mike Irvin, 79, of Dry Ridge, died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a retired machinist with William Powell Valve Co., a deacon at Elliston Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Penn Thompson Irvin; sons, Michael Irvin of Dry Ridge, Fred Irvin of Hebron, Ralph Irvin of Independence and Rev. Arthur Irvin of Cumberland; daughters, Una Irvin of Berry and Debra Ketteler of Burlington; stepsons, Gene Thompson of Hamilton, Ohio, and Russell Thompson of Edgewater, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ann Doering Roney, 56, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday at Hospice of Cincinnati.
She was a lab technician with Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, and a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Carrollton.
Her husband, Dr. Donald Roney, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Michael Roney of Crescent Hill; a daughter, Laura Robinson of Cincinnati; her mother, Sarah Smith Doering of Cincinnati; brothers, William Doering, James Doering and Gregory Doering, all of Cincinnati; sisters, Mary Grott of Boston, Claire Pitocco and Monica Litzinger, both of Cincinnati, and Jane Pitocco of Fort Wright; and two grandchildren.

David Lee Shaw, 51, of Covington, died March 14 at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a disabled restaurant worker.
Survivors include sons, Chris Webster of Dry Ridge and James Edward Shaw of Covington; daughters, Christie Webster of Independence and Melinda Sue Rose Shawn of Harlan County; brothers, Jimmy Shaw of Latonia, Kenny Shawn and Elvis Shaw, both of Covington, and Larry Shaw of Carrollton; sisters, Charlotte Marie O'Banion of Owenton, Ruth Ann O'Banion of Covington ad Faye Dalhouver of London; and eight grandchildren.

Daniel Richard Stodghill, 71, of Newport, died at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday at Village Care Center, Erlanger.
He was a former account executive at Coney Island, a deacon at First Baptist Church of Newport and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Stodghill; a daughter, Jill Scully of Cincinnati; a brother, Joseph Stodghill of Gloucester, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Newport.
Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate.

Albert R. "Butch" Twaddell, 59, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a supervisor with CSX Railroad, Cincinnati, and a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen and Ralph Fulton VFW Post, Elsmere.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Pernell Twaddell; daughters, Tia Jensen of Samamish, Wash., Valetia Twaddell of Columbus, Ohio, and Tonya McGriff of Ludlow; a brother, Joe Twaddell of Riverside, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Lillian Moyer Weiss, 92, of Augusta, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Augusta, the Women's Circle in Chatham, Chatham Homemakers and Capt. Philip Buckner Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include a son, Edwin Weiss of Augusta; daughters Norma Braughler of Morehead and Janet Hedger of Seymour, Ind.; a sister, Hazel Taylor of Georgetown, Ohio; a brother, Hansford Moyer of Mason County; and 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Augusta.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville.
