June Klug, 76, helped people with problems

June Klug had a special gift for helping people with problems.

Growing up during the Depression, every time she got a new pair of shoes, she wound up giving them to someone who she thought needed them more.

As a young married couple, she and her husband, Arnold, took in people who were down on their luck.

"When I was growing up, there was always somebody with a hard-luck story living with us, " said her son, Jeff Klug of Highland Heights.

Later, the Klugs gave up their home so they could virtually adopt two children whose parents had died.

"My mom was like a magnet to people with problems, " Jeff Klug said. "Total strangers would tell her their woes."

Mrs. Klug, 76, died Tuesday at her home in Highland Heights.

She had "a special rapport with Jesus, " said her son. "People who were sick would call her and ask her to pray for them. A lot got healed after she laid hands on them. She never told anybody about that. She was too modest for that. If anybody made a difference in other people's lives, it was her."

Mrs. Klug was raised in Bellevue, and had such great memories of her youth there that when she she told her kids about it, it was "like going back to Mayberry, " said her son.

During World War II, she starred in her school play at Bellevue High, "She's a Soldier's Sweetheart, " while her husband-to-be was serving in Europe, her son said. Arnold Klug was wounded in Germany but made it home safely, and they married in 1945.
