Elmer W. Roetker, 88, long-time florist
Elmer W. Roetker, 88, of Fort Wright, who spent his entire career in the flower business, died Saturday at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington.
He owned Roetker Florist in Latonia for 25 years and, after retiring from that in 1975, worked 20 more years for Fort Thomas Florist. Mr. Roetker was a member of the Northern Kentucky Florist Association.
"He loved flowers from the time he was a little boy, " said Mr. Roetker's wife of 52 years, Henrietta Klefken Roetker, 85.
"As soon as he was old enough, he went to work with a florist. When he was able, he decided to go into business for himself.
"He liked beauty and really enjoyed his work. He was a genius at designing floral arrangements."
Mr. Roetker was a board member of Mother of God cemetery in Fort Wright, a member of St. Benedict Church in Covington and a member of the church's Holy Name Society.
"At Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, he took care of the church altar, going all out with arrangements of flowers, " Mrs. Roetker said.
Mr. Roetker was a member of the Leisure Timers Social Club in Fort Wright.
"He enjoyed traveling and we took lots of nice trips throughout the United States, " said Mrs. Roetker. "We had a lot of fun together. He enjoyed life and had a keen sense of humor."
Other survivors include a son, Bruce Roetker of Florence, and a grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict Church.
Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Entombment will be in Mother of God Mausoleum in Fort Wright.

Robert E. Bach, 80, of Covington, died at 8:20 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired manufacturer's representative, a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post No. 203 in Latonia and St. Anthony Church in Taylor Mill, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Bach Smith of Cincinnati.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony Church, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at noon Monday. Entombment will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Willard E. "Bud" Barnes, 83, of Warsaw, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired welder at Cincinnati Ventilating Co. and a member of Belleview Baptist Church and Disabled American Veterans, and an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Willard Barnes Jr., and stepsons, Eddie Rider and Randy Rider, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Rider Barnes; daughters, Patricia Tomlinson of Owenton and Jackee Ellis of Belleview, Fla.; stepdaughters, Jozzett Powell of Markland, Ind., and Rose Sullivan of Warsaw; a stepson, Gary Bingaman of Dry Ridge; three grandsons, a step-grandson and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Gallatin County Life Squad, P. O. Box 774, Warsaw, Ky. 41095.
Donna Elaine Alley Bridewell, 49, of Cold Spring, died at 5:25 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a retired custodial supervisor at Northern Kentucky University.
Survivors include her husband, David Bridewell Sr.; daughters, Jessica Hehman and Alaina Bridewell, both of Cold Spring; a son, Dave Bridewell Jr. of Alexandria; a sister, Susan Dowd of Cincinnati; brothers, John Alley II of Cold Spring and Darren Alley of Alexandria; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in St. Stephen Mausoleum, Fort Thomas.
William Brown, 84, of Florence, died Monday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.

William Clifford, 80, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer and carpenter, a former owner of Clifford's Greenhouse and a member of Barlow United Methodist Church. A son, Carl Clifton Clifford, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Mae Withers Clifford; brothers, Stanley Clifford of Berry and Marion Clifford of Florence; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a step- great-great-grandson.

Bessie R. Fields, 98, of Newport, died at 9:25 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker and a member of Summit Church of Christ, Cold Spring. Her husband, James Fields, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Arthur Heffner of St. Augustine, Fla.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Vivian Hancock, 71, of Morning View, died at 3:06 p.m Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired materials cutter with Kendall Corp. Her husband, Robert Hancock, died in 1980.

Phyllis Kelsch Herfurt, 67, of Holland, Ohio, formerly of Augusta, died Saturday at Lutheran Village of Wolf Creek in Holland. Her husband, Jack Herfurt, died in 1985.
Survivors include daughters, Tracey Chmelovski and Kimberly Hudson; a son, Gregory Herfurt; a sister, JoAnn Hay of Augusta; brothers, Ron Kelsch of Villa Hills and Larry Kelsch of Cold Spring; and three grandchildren.

James L. Hull, 74, of San Diego, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Tuesday at Sharp's Cabrillo Nursing Home, San Diego. He was a retired truck driver and an Army and Marine Corps veteran of World War II. His wife, Hazel Hull, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Fern Crosley of the state of California; sisters, Novello Hull of Dayton, Marjorie Cordey of Newport and Mary Lou Cobb of Alexandria; and a brother, Warren E. Hull of Florida.

Mildred Humphrey, 78, of Wilder, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired waitress and food service worker.
Survivors include a son, Bill Humphrey of Hopkinsville; a brother Ken Baumann of North Fort Meyers, Fla.; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Florence Hunter, 67, of Corinth, died Monday at New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton. She was a homemaker and a member of New Columbus Methodist Church, Corinth.

Jesse E. James, 73, of Butler, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired pipefitter with American Laundry and a member of Flag Springs Baptist Church, California.
Survivors include a son, Jamie James of Butler; daughters, Melissa Fields of Bass, N.C., and Pam Carroll of Butler; a brother, Harry James of Butler; sisters, Barbara Utz and Bourbon Hopkins, both of Butler; and two grandchildren.
