Rev. O.B. Mullins, 84, banker and preacher
Rev. O. B. Mullins of Erlanger didn't fit the stereotypical image of stern banker, or of fiery preacher.
"O.B. was a businessman with a sense of humor, " said Jessie Marie Mullins, his wife of 18 years.
"And even though he was a Pentecostal minister, he wasn't what you'd call a fire-and-brimstone preacher. He was serious, but he was also a comedian. Everyone who met him loved him."
Mr. Mullins died Saturday at his home. He was 84.
He was a retired vice president with Cardinal Federal Savings and Loan Co. of Columbus, Ohio, an evangelical minister at Heritage Assembly of God Church in Florence and Shield of Faith Pentecostal Church in Newport, and was a 32nd degree Mason with the Lebanon, Ohio, Masonic Lodge.
A son, Richard Allen Mullins, preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Frank Mullins of Westwood, Ohio, and James Mullins and John Mullins, both of South Lebanon, Ohio; two daughters, Betty Marie Monds of South Lebanon, Ohio, and Ethel Peence of Beattyville; three brothers, Jim Mullins of Highland Heights, and Bill Mullins and Bobby Mullins, both of Newport; a sister, Pat Keene of Covington; and 14 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Assembly of God Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Eslie M. Covey, 88, of Latonia, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired supervisor with Duro Paper Bag Co., Covington, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Latonia. She was a member of the church Young and Heart Club. Her husband, Leroy Covey, died in 1992.
Survivors include daughters, Phyllis Roy of Latonia, Bonnie Doker of Erlanger and Diana Perry of Huron, Ohio; a brother, P. J. Hurtt of Taylor Mill; a sister, Evelyn Shelton of Latonia; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Patty Dale Doherty, 66, of Latonia, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
She was owner of Tri-State Trucking, Latonia, and a member of Covington Moose Lodge No. 1469, Taylor Mill. A daughter, Marti Lu Doherty, died in 1983.
Survivors include her husband, Alan G. Doherty; sons, Eddie Doherty and Bobby Doherty, both of Latonia, Mike Doherty and David Doherty, both of Fort Mitchell, and John Doherty of Taylor Mill; brothers, Charlie Ethington and Freddie Ethington, both of Lexington; sisters, Judy Butterfield of Louisville and Baby Doll Warner of Lexington; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Millie R. Sackmann Flaig, 100, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Robert Luther Hall Sr., 67, of Petersburg, died Friday at his home. He was an assembly worker with General Motors, Cincinnati, a member of Newport Church of God and a Sunday school teacher. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Marie Hall; a daughter, Timola Daugherty of Petersburg; sons, Mitchell Hall of Verona and Robert L. Hall Jr. of Petersburg; stepdaughters, Sue Parrett of Fort Mitchell, Brenda Trapp of Ludlow and Sharon Wintring of Florence; a stepson, John Trapp of Cleveland; and 16 grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Newport Church of God. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Richwood Presbyterian Cemetery. Bessie Lewellyn Knox, 87, of Carrollton, died Friday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a member of Carrollton United Pentecostal Church. Her husband, John Wyatt Knox, died in 1993. A daughter, Betty Jo Crawford, died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Coburn of Kuttawa; sons, Rev. Ronald Knox and Donald Knox, both of Carrollton; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carrollton United Pentecostal Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton, and from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery.
Robert C. Marz, 91, of Alexandria, died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights.
He was a retired rate department worker with B&O; Railroad, a former Sunday school teacher with St. Paul United Church of Christ in Fort Thomas and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Hollmeyer Marz; and a niece, Carolyn Kathman of Crestview Hills.

Ena Petty May, 92, of Latonia, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Kathleen McDonald, 55, of Kaui, Hawaii, formerly of Covington, died Thursday at St. Mary Memorial Hospital in Rogers, Ark.
Survivors include daughters, Libbie Malia and Jennie Marie McDonald, both of Arkansas; a son, Johnathan Harold McDonald III of Arkansas; a sister, Cindy Adele of Vista, Calif.; and one grandchild.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville, Ark.

Mary L. Middendorf, 100, of Villa Hills, died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Madonna Manor Care Center, Villa Hills.
She was a receptionist with John N. Middendorf & Sons Funeral Home.

Alpheus D. Reed, 84, of Crittenden, died at 1:04 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. He was a retired manager with Sears Roebuck and Co., Covington, and farmer and a member of Walton Christian Church and Crittenden Lodge No. 649 F&AM. His wife, Kathryn Wright Reed, died in 1996.
Survivors include sons, Jerry Reed of West Chester, Ohio, and Gayle Reed of Crittenden; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Opal Elizabeth Robbins, 81, of Carrollton, died Sunday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. She was a retired inspector and packer with Kawneer Corp., Milton, and a member of Cove Hill Baptist Church, Carroll County. Her husband, William T. Robbins, died in 1988. A daughter, Juanita J. Tolliver, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Sandra G. Giles of Union and Cathy S. Hughes of Carrollton; sons, Clarence T. Roberts of Sanders, Harold L. Robbins of Milton, Richard A. Robbins of Carrollton and Larry W. Robbins of Sanders; 12 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Roscoe Junior Turner, 62, of Newport, died at 10 p.m. Friday at his home. He was a shipping and receiving clerk with Blue Grass Quality Meats, Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Ella Turner; a son, Roscoe L. Turner of Newport; daughters, Mary Erskine of Latonia and Regina Turner and Deborah Turner, both of Newport; brothers, Charles Turner of Newport and Gran Turner of Union; sisters, Mattie Short and Minnie Spears, both of Newport, and Margaret McCullah of Erlanger; and six grandchildren.

Robert Lee. Whalen Sr., 63, of Latonia, died Friday at his home.
He was a custodian with Northern Kentucky University and American Tool Co., Cincinnati. He was a member of Crescent Springs Church of God and was a foster father to many children.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Kay Calhoun Whalen; a son, Robert Lee Whalen Jr. of Latonia; daughters, Melissa Kay Hoffman of Walton and Laura Ann Whalen, at home; brothers, William Elwood Whalen of Van Nuys, Calif., and James F. Whalen of Florence; sisters, Helen Marie Clifton of Neon, Vivian Mae Marshall of Maysville and Mary Jean Clifton of Ludlow; and four grandchildren.

James Woodruff, 72, of Augusta, died at 6:48 a.m. Sunday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a retired farmer. His wife, Dorothy Kiskaden Woodruff, died in 1991. A daughter, Dottie Woodruff, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Woodruff of Augusta; sons, Buddy Woodruff of Falmouth, and Rick Woodruff, Tom Woodruff, Jackie Woodruff, Jimmy Woodruff and Tim Woodruff, all of Augusta; sisters, Josie Poe of Brooksville and Marie Tull of Felicity, Ohio; brothers, Roy Woodruff of Brooksville and Albert "Pete" Woodruff of Cynthiana; 17 grandchildren, a step-granddaughter, one great-grandchild and three step-great-grandchildren.
