Petty May, fifth-grade teacher
Ena cq Petty May of Latonia taught in elementary schools in the Kenton County and Covington school districts for more than 30 years.
"She always taught the fifth grade, " said a son, David May of Fort Wright.
"She just liked dealing with kids at that age, before they became teen-agers and when they were old enough that they know how to get dressed."
Mrs. May died Sunday afternoon at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was 92.
During Mrs. May's tenure as a teacher, "She taught thousands of students, " her son said. "Anytime she went anywhere, she would run in to somebody who would say, 'Hey, you taught me in fifth grade."'
Mrs. May helped found the Covington Teachers Association and was a member and secretary of the Retired Teachers Association in Cov ington.
She was an active mem ber of the Community of Faith Presbyterian Church in Covington, where she served as a deacon and sang soprano with the church choir.
Mrs. May also sang with the May Festival chorus, and at weddings and funerals.
David May said his moth er "was always real friendly, and would talk to anybody and everybody.
"She was always doing something for someone who was sick. She always went to church and she would help out taking people to church or on errands."
Mrs. May's husband, Har ry May, died in 1999.
Surviving besides David May is another son, Roger May of Chicago; a sister, Genevieve Bowman of Fort Wright; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home in Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.

Nancy B. Hill Clayton, 94, of Covington, died Sunday at Baptist Village Care Center, Erlanger.
She was a retired cook and teacher's aide for Glenn O. Swing Elementary School, Covington, and a member of First Christian Church, Covington. Her husband, Sam Clayton, died in 1964.
Survivors include her son, Harold Clayton of Independence; daughters, Dorothy L. Strady of Covington and Sharon R. Blank of Fort Wright; brothers, Taylor Hill of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Vilas Hill of Florence; sisters, Rebecca Leiter and Oni Blackburn, both of West Carrollton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at First Christian Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, and from 11 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, 14 W. Fifth St., Covington, Ky. 41011.
Helen L. Cline, 84, of Highland Heights, died Monday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights.
She was a retired secretary with the center. Her husband, William Cline, died in 1986.
Survivors include daughters, Shirley Cobb of Cold Spring, Sue Jump of Butler and Janet Fornash of Dry Ridge; sons, William Cline of Satellite Beach, Fla., and James Cline of Highland Heights; a sister, Edith Lucille Wiliamson of Lancaster, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Stella Lee Coleman, 61, of Alexandria, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired employee of Cincinnati Gas and Electric, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Coleman of Alexandria; sons, James A. Coleman of Highland Heights, Gregory W. Coleman of Edge wood and Steve Coleman of Hebron; a daughter, Jan Chandler of Newport; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Peach Grove Cemetery, Peach Grove.
Frank S. Firth, 79, of Cincinnati, formerly of Fort Thomas, died at 8:15 a.m. Monday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was a retired master builder with Frank Firth & Son General Contractors, Fort Thomas, a past master of Alexandria Masonic Lodge No. 152 F&AM and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Bridewell Firth; daughters, Cheryl Peeno of Davenport, Fla., Joan Boedderker of Fort Thomas and Lisa Cravens of Cincinnati; sons, Frank E. Firth of Fort Thomas, John T. Firth of Edgewood and Clifford H. Peeno of Davenport, Fla.; a sister, Angie Scott of Foster; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp- Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Sidonia T. Garrett, 76, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a dance instructor and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Burton A. Garrett; daughters, Christine Cabanilla of Elsmere and Jacqueline Lillis of Cincinnati; a sister, Theresa Hubner of Mount Dora, Fla.; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Clara Grissom, 86, of Florence, died at 11:55 p.m. Sunday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.
She was a retired secretary for the claims office at State Farm Insurance Co. and a member of First Baptist Church of Highland Heights. She was president of her Sunday school class and a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Erlanger, where she was a Sunday school teacher. Her husband, Leo Grissom, died in 1978.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Brockman of Independence; and a grandson.

Agnes P. Hampton, 74, of Lorain, Ohio, formerly of Florence, died Sunday at Community Health Partners in Lorain. She was a retired nursing home manager and a member of Florence First Church of God. Her husband, Carl Hendershot, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Randy Chafin of Florida; sisters, Jessie Leibree of Lorain, Ohio, and Essie Varney of West Virginia; one grandchild and one great-grandchildren.

Elmer Dustin Holbert, 25, of Glencoe, died Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a welder with Fabri-craft Co., Walton, and a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Tom and Judy Wainscott Holbert; and a brother, Trent Holbert of Richmond.

Mary Jane Storr Klare, 66, of Covington, died at 2:51 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired secretary for Lazarus department stores and a member of Mother of God Church, Covington. She was a eucharistic minister and usher at the church, a member of the Al-Anon Club and a volunteer with St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, where she helped at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, the surgical lounge and Bishop Hughes Pavilion.
Survivors include her husband, William E. Klare; daughters, Nancy Shields and Cathy Kastner, both of Covington; a son, Scott Klare of Alabama; and three stepdaughters.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Gearldine Mae Phillips Linville, 61, of Germantown, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker and a retired farmer. A son, Harold Wayne Linville, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Clarence Edward Linville and George "Bear" Linville, both of Sardis, and James Thomas Linville of Mount Olivet; a daughter, Vickie "Pee Wee" Cooper of Mount Olivet; a brother, Jerry Ray Phillips of Minerva; sisters, Sarah Louise Morgan of Maysville and Ruby Ann French of Mount Olivet; and two grandchildren.

Phyllis Delores "Dody" Richardson, 71, of Covington, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere. She was a retired PBX operator at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington, and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Taylor Mill. Her husband, Charles Earle Richardson, died in 1972.
Survivors include her sons, David Richardson of Covington and Rob Richardson of Cincinnati; a brother, Richard Allen Thompson of Erlanger; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014; or the animal shelter of the donor's choice.

Golda Schweinzger, 70, of Bunkie, La., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Jan. 17 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, La. She was a nurse and retired employee of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Alexandria, La. She formerly worked at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas, Booth Memorial Hospital in Covington and Providence Hospital, Cincinnati. She also worked at Baptist Hospital in Alexandria, La. Her husband, Henry Schweinzger, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Thomas Schweinzger of Dayton and Henry Schweinzger of Melbourne; a brother, Guy Finch of Lake Charles, La.; a sister, Nelwyn Longworth of Pineville, La.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Jan. 19 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pineville, La. Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Pineville, handled arrangements.
Anna M. Soden, 83, of Walton, died Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
She was a homemaker and a former bus driver for Walton Senior Citizens and delivered Meals on Wheels. Her husband, William Soden, died in 1984.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Soden of Inyokern, Calif., and Robin Berkshire of Walton; a son, Jerry Soden of Villa Hills; a brother, Kenneth Frakes of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Walton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton.
Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
Donnie Ray Tuttle Sr., 55, of Covington, died Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was a disabled laborer in residential construction.
Survivors include his sons, Donnie Ray Tuttle Jr. of Cincinnati and Charlie Hampton and Daniel Hampton, both of Covington; brothers, Tommy Tuttle of Latonia and Wayne Tuttle and Sam Tuttle, both of Barbourville; sisters, Geraldine Messer and Nicey Golden, both of Barbourville; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.

Joseph V. Wessels, 56, of Edgewood, died at 1:16 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retail manager with Radio Shack, a member of St. Pius X Church in Edgewood and the Knights of Columbus, and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Irene M. Wessels; daughters, Jamie Barton and Lindsey Wessels, both of Cincinnati; sons, Matthew Wessels of Columbus, Ohio, and Christopher Barton of Edgewood; and brothers, Gerald Wessels of Cincinnati, Frank Wessels of Wooster, Ohio, and John Wessels of Spring, Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Wolfe; sons, Paul Michael Wolfe of Newport and David Wolfe of Burlington; a sister, Nancy Kramer of Latonia; a brother, Bill Gammon of Covington; and a grandson.
