Monroe Turner, TV, radio musician

Monroe Turner, a mandolin player, loved music and was a musician with the WLW Radio and television show "Midwestern Hayride."

Mr. Turner, 89, originally of Middlesboro, died at 9:45 a.m. Friday in Clermont Nursing Home in Milford, Ohio. He was 89.

"He played mostly country music, " said a son, Robert Miles of Fort Wright. "He was a good man. He was a kind, gentle man. He seemed to love to tease people and joke around. He liked to laugh."

He was acquainted with many people from the early days of Cincinnati radio, said his daughter. "He knew Ruth Lyons and all those people from back in

those days, " said Stella Hiltbrand of Batavia, Ohio. "He loved music and played for many years."

He was the brother of Red Turner, who also appeared on "Midwestern Hayride, " and sang with him on the radio "all the time, " said Miles. "He was in to music for many years."

"He was always kidding, " said Mrs. Hiltbrand. "He would entertain at churches. He and Red would come out to our church quite a bit and get on a haywagon outside. It was always a lot of fun."

Survivors include his wife, Lula Turner; a daughter, Stella Hiltbrand of Batavia, Ohio; sons, Robert Miles of Fort Wright and William Miles of Fairfield, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Doyle David Anders Jr., 46, of Cincinnati, formerly of Newport, died at 11 a.m. Saturday at his home.

Survivors include a sister, Georgia Hiteman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and brothers, Larry Anders of Dry Ridge and Steve Anders of Newport.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Viola Ann Boschert, 85, of Elsmere, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker and a member of Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. She was a member of the Pogues Group. Her husband, Robert G. Boschert, and a daughter, Barbara Hollman, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Johnson of Richmond; sisters, Terri Johnson of Fort Mitchell and Mary Rita Stephanic of Atwater, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219; or Susan G. Komen Foundation, P. O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas 75265.

Nada Mae Case Bratton, 69, of Mount Olivet, died Friday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a farmer, a former employee of Emerson Electric and a member of McKendree United Methodist Church. Her husband, Raymond Bratton, died in 1989.

Survivors include a sister, Lorene Smith of Maysville; and two nieces.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown.

Roy T. Campbell, 74, of Covington, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired car inspector with CSX Railroad. His wife, Mary Lee Campbell, died on Jan. 13.

Survivors include sons, Johnny Campbell of Cincinnati, James Campbell of Crittenden and Tommy Campbell of Independence; daughters, Donna Campbell of Covington, Karen Mainous of Falmouth and Annette Gripshover of Crittenden; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Eileen Fahrubel, 83, of Dayton, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Sacred Heart Christian Mothers, Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary and the Northern Kentucky Guild for the Retarded.

Survivors include her husband, Howard F. Fahrubel; a daughter, Clarie Sorrell of Dayton; a brother, William Newell of West Chester, Ohio; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Northern Kentucky Guild for the Retarded. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.

David Gibson, 73, of Covington, died Friday at Garrard Street Nursing Home, Covington.

Survivors include daughters, Wilma Singleton and Wanda Mason, both of Covington.

No services are planned. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. C&C; Mortuary, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Herbert Ford Gilbert, 67, of Silver Grove, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a butcher for Reis Packing Company, Covington.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Gilbert of Silver Grove; sons, Ernie Gilbert of Houston, Texas, Ronnie Gilbert of Covington, Robert Gilbert of Elsmere, Ryan Gilbert of Dayton and Jerry Gilbert of Seattle, Wash.; brothers, Bobby Gilbert of Maysville, Hobert Gilbert of Fort Thomas and Henry Gilbert of Alexandria; sisters, Frances Bolton of Lutz, Fla., Alberta Sipple of Dayton and Phyllis Gilbert of Florence; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.

Floyd "Boonie" Gillie, 60, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington.

Marie Haney, 81, of Alexandria, died Saturday at her home.

She was a retired machine operator for DAV, Cold Spring, and a member of St. St. Mary's Church, Alexandria. Her hus band, Frank Haney, died in 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Lederer of Alexandria; sisters, Peggy Woeste and Rosie Carmack, both of Alexandria; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

James Garnett Harvey, 69, of Dry Ridge, died Sunday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.

Dale Horton, 52, of Latonia, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at his home.

He was an inspector with General Electric, Cincinnati, and a Vietnam War veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Mallery of Laton ia; brothers, Dennis Horton of Fort Thomas and Larry Weinel of Cold Spring; and a sister, Betty Downton of Cold Spring.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Latonia Christian Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington.

James "Pete" Johnson, 80, of Lexington, formerly of Covington, died Jan. 25 in Lexington. He was a retired employee of Cincinnati Bell Telephone Co. and a member of St. Stephen Episcopal Church, Latonia.

Survivors include sons, Wayne Johnson of Tucker, Ga., and Terry Johnson of Fort Thomas; daughters, Mary Shelton of Lexington and Debbie Mai of Minister, Ohio; a sister, Dean Yelton of Latonia; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Episcopal Church. Memorials are suggested to St. Stephen Episcopal Church, Book of Rememberance, 212 E. 39th St., Covington, Ky. 41015. Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Nettie Herold King, 87, of Erlanger, died at 8:45 p.m. Friday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Kento-Boo Baptist Church, Florence. She was a former member and Sunday school teacher with First Baptist Church of Ludlow. Her first husband, Henry F. Herold, died in 1955. Her second husband, Raymond A. King, died in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Herold Duncan of Erlanger; a son, Wayne King of union; a sister, Louise Herrington of Florence; a grandson, three step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Kento-Boo Baptist Church, 634 Kentoboo Ave., Florence, Ky. 41042.

JoAnn Burke Krechting, 69, of Asheville, N.C., formerly of Southgate, died Friday in Asheville. She was a retired employee of Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge, Fla., a member of St. Mary Church in Rockledge and a volunteer with Brevard Home Care in the city. Her husband, Donald Francis Krechting, died in 1995.

Survivors include daughters, Madonna Lynn Lee of Cocoa, Fla., and Michelle Ann Townsend of Chandler, N.C.; sons, William Joseph Krechting of Melbourne, Fla., and Christopher Krechting of Titusville, Fla.; six grandchildren, one step-grandchild and one step-great-grandchild.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to Mountain Area Hospice, P. O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813. Groce Funeral Home, Asheville, is handling arrangements.

Joan B. Linton, 70, of Latonia, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a retired secretary with several Kenton County judges, the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky and with railroad companies. She was a member of St. Augustine Church in Covington and was formerly active in the PTA.

Survivors include daughters, Gwen Meese of Latonia and Bonnie Ernst of Union; sons, Cliff Linton and James Linton, both of Covington, and Russell Linton of Hebron; a brother, Rich Gaines of Covington; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Charles B. McNeese, 65, of Ryland Heights, died Friday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

He was a retired production worker with Nu-Maid Margargine and and employee of Woodland Middle School, Latonia. He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Taylor Mill and a former deacon with Decoursey Baptist Church, Latonia.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Adams McNeese; daughters, Melanie G. Swarthout of Franklin, Tenn., and Vanessa Jean Morton of Latonia; sons, Charles Jeffrey McNeese of Houston, Tex., Keith W. McNeese of Union, Christopher E. McNeese of Georgetown and Richard D. McNeese of Walton; sisters, Kathleen Haley of Butler, Marcella Finnell of Taylor Mill, Evelyn Baumstark of Williamstown, Bonnie Day of Covington and Mary Helen Hisel of Falmouth; brothers, Ira McNeese of Falmouth, Paul McNeese of Fort Thomas and John McNeese of Florence; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 6056 Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, Ky. 41015.

Francis J. Northcutt, 62, of Fort Wright, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired budget systems analyst with Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Covington. He was a former member of the Monte Casino Civic Club, and was a mentor at First District School, Covington.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Vogel Northcutt; sons, Thomas Michael Northcutt of Alexandria and Gary Northcutt of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; his mother, Loretto E. Kelly Northcutt of Latonia; a brother, John Franklin Northcutt of Osceola, Fla.; sisters, Betty Ishmael of Falmouth and Dorothy Weisenberger of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to New Hope Center, 3027 Dixie Highway, Edgewood, Ky. 41017.

Karen Ella Plageman, 54, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a tax preparer with H&R; Block and a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, Southgate.

Survivors include daughters, Chrissy Artrip of Charleston, W.Va., and Shelly Plageman of Bellevue; sons, Barry Plageman and Clayton Plageman, both of Erlanger; a brother, Kenny Brock of Dayton; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Dona Lou Young Ross, 67, of Crittenden, died Saturday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati. She was an infection control secretary with McKeesport Hospital and a member of Crittenden Baptist Church. Her husband, William Ross, and son, Scott Ross, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Sparks of Crittenden; a son, James Ross of Jefferson Hills, Pa.; a brother, Emanuel Young of Warsaw, Ind.; a sister, Mona Sumpter of Warsaw, Ind.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 7:30 tonight at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntington, Pa. Memorials are suggested to Grant County Relay for Life, in care of the Grant County News, 151 N. Main St., Williamstown, Ky. 41097; or Veterans Administration Medical Center, 3200 Vine St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45220.

Ann Wainscott, 79, of Independence, died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday at Woodcrest Manor Care Center, Elsmere. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Cecilia Church, Independence. She was a member of the church Altar Society and Primetimers, and was a member of the Irish Rovers at St. Patrick Church, Independence.

Survivors include her husband, William H. Wainscott; sons, Rick Wainscott of Independence, Tom Wainscott and Tim Wainscott, both of Edgewood; daughters, Mary Lee Simpson and Julie Stewart, both of Independence; sisters, Mary Black of Ludlow, Norma Tretter of Clearwater, Fla., Micky Reynolds of Independence, and Irma Bogenschutz of Covington; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Cecilia Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
