Paul Kirst, 78, accomplished photographer
Paul J. Kirst of Fort Thomas was an award-winning professional photographer whose work lives on in other people's homes - where family portraits grace walls and page after magical page of wedding pictures fill albums.
Landscapes like the ones he caught on film when he and his wife traveled out West and to New England hang in the Meijer Inc. store and Bob Evans Restaurant, both in Cold Spring.
And with the help of his wife, Bette Jo, Mr. Kirst also restored the old photographs on display at the former mess hall at Fort Thomas in Fort Thomas.
"Photography was an interest he had when he was at Highlands High School, " said a son, Gregory A. Kirst of Crestview.
Paul Kirst died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East. He was 78.
His father liked people, Gregory Kirst said. "He enjoyed people, and he was very good with them."
For instance, Paul Kirst was a member of the bereavement committee at St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas, where he also served as a volunteer Eucharistic minister, taking communion to patients in St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
"He was true to God and to himself, " his son said.
Mr. Kirst grew up in Fort Thomas. During World War II, while serving with in the Army in England, he met his wife, a member of the Women's Army Corps from Oklahoma.
After Mr. Kirst got out of the service, he worked with his father at the family business, Aljen Associates, Lithographers.
Paul Kirst later owned or co-owned photography businesses Color Crest Studio of Fort Thomas and B&P; Photographics. His wife helped retouch and color photographs.
He was a member of the Kentucky Professional Photographers Association (KPPA) and twice was president of the Tri-State Photographers Association.
He was awarded the Kentucky Fellowship Degree and the Kentucky National Award, two KPPA honors.
Mr. Kirst also was past commander of the John R. Little VFW Post in Southgate and a founder of the Fort Thomas Heritage League.
He and his wife had been married
50 years when she died in 1996.
In addition to Gregory Kirst, Paul Kirst is survived by a second son, Terry P. Kirst of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughters, Sandra Koenig of Cincinnati and Susan Sticksel of Excelsior, Minn.; and 13 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home in Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in St. Stephen cemetery in Fort Thomas.

Marcella M. Brinley, 78, of Highland Heights, formerly of Bellevue, died Sunday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a former secretary for Newport Central Catholic High School and a member of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue.
Survivors include several nephews.

Randall Lee Deitz, 65, of Florence, died Monday at his home.
He was retired from the Air Force, a member of the Covington VFW, and was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Sofia Salazar Deitz; sons, Randall Lee Deitz Jr. and Michael S. Deitz, both of Florence; a daughter, Sharon L. Tully of Edinburgh, Scotland; a brother, Leonard Deitz of West Virginia; a sister, Joan Sterling of Independence; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
James M. Gordley Sr., 67, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Sunday at Fort Hamilton Hospital, Hamilton. He was a material handler for Ford Motor Company, Sharonville, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War. His first wife, Patricia Noll Gordley, died in 1967, and his second wife, Paula Lee Creech Gordley, died in 1984.
Survivors include sons, James M. Gordley Jr. of Milford, Ohio, and James "Wes" Gordley of Hamilton; daughters, Cheryl Ann Neal of Melbourne and Rosemary Fields of Cincinnati; mother, Diana Browning Gordley of Brooksville; brothers, Les Gordley of Cincinnati, Pete Gordley of Georgetown, Ohio, and Ron Gordley of Mount Carmel, Ohio; a sister, Lois Thompson of Mount Carmel; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Celestia Hanson, 93, of Milford, Ohio, died Monday at Clermont County Nursing Center, Milford. She was a waitress and clerk for Buerk's Restaurant and Sundries and a member of Brooksville Baptist Church. Her husband, Garrett Hanson, died in 1977. A son, Garrett Hanson Jr., and a daughter, Lucille Courtney, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Adrian Hanson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Donald Hanson of Loveland, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Brooksville Baptist Church.
Charolette Ann Henson, 63, of Maysville, died Monday at her home. She wa s the owner of Charolette's Beauty Shop, Maysville and a retired instructor for Vogue College of Hair Design, Maysville.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Henson of Maysville; a son, Joseph Henson of Lexington; a daughter, Dana Henson of Rectorville; a brother, Clayton "Jim" Richards of Paris; and two grandsons.

Vicky C. Jewell, 54, of Walton, died Monday at her home.
She was a manager of K.P. Oil Company.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Jewell of Walton; a daughter, Lisa Jewell of Walton; and sons, Huey Scott Pergrem of Fort Thomas and Mikey Jewell of Crittenden.

Virginia "Jill" Lottman, 79, of Western Hills, Cincinnati, died Sunday at Mercy-Franciscan Mount Airy Campus Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Carl R. Lottman, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Michael Lottman of Western Hills and James Lottman of Villa Hills; a daughter, Sandra Kroth of West Chester, Ohio; a sister, Ruth Bayer of Delhi Township, Ohio; a brother, Norb Kenkel of Mack, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Luda Marksberry, 95, of Newport, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. He was a retired factory worker for Ohio Paper Box Company, Cincinnati. His wife, Marjorie Kuhnheim Marksberry, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Rev. Henry Marksberry of Fort Thomas and Donald Marksberry of Newport; a brother, Jim Marksberry of Verona; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Lucy Ellen Roeding, 33, of Park Hills, died at 11 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a secretary for First Christian Church, Covington.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Geneva Matthews Ludlow and Ken Ludlow of Fort Wright; father and stepmother, Edward "Ted" Roeding and Lisa Roeding of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Matthew Roeding of Covington; a sister, Katie Roeding of Cincinnati; half-sisters, Amy Roeding of Covington, Jami Roeding of Cincinnati and Annie Roeding of St. Petersburg; and stepsister, Sherrie Roeding of St. Petersburg.

Elmore B. Schrode, 70, of Erlanger, died at 9:35 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired brakeman for CSX Railroad, a member of Northern Kentucky Saddle Club, the VFW and an Army veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Fannie Jean Deaton Schrode, died in 1975, and a son, Michael Ray Schrode, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Edward D. Schrode of Erlanger; daughters, Patricia Ann Lay of Erlanger and Della Marie Schrode of Independence; brothers, George Schrode of Campbell County, Frank Schrode of Latonia and Ralph Schrode of Newport; eight grandchildren and a great- grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Tristin Scott Thomas, 1 month, of Gratz, died Sunday at New Horizon Medical Center, Owenton.
Survivors include his mother, Amanda Lee Johnson of Gratz; maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Renata and Tommy Fields of Gratz; and maternal grandfather, Tony Johnson of Carrollton.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. today in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton .

Geneva Lee Vories, 81, of Carrollton, died Monday at King's Daughter Hospital, Madison, Ind.
She was retired from Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. Her husband, Huge Vories, died in 1975.
Survivors include a son, Paul Alexander of Carrollton; a daughter, Nancy Carol Graves of Franklin; and seven grandchildren.
