Marcus P. O'Hara Sr., 77, businessman, 'people person'
Marcus P. O'Hara Sr. of Fort Thomas owned food marts and a dry cleaning business in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati for about 50 years, and was well-suited for the work.
"He was very much a people person, " said a son, Marcus P. O'Hara Jr. of Newport.
"He liked being his own boss. He liked meeting people and taking care of people."
Marcus O'Hara Sr. died Thursday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. He was 77.
Mr. O'Hara was a native of Bellevue and an Army veteran of World War II.
"He belonged to the 775th Field Artillery Division, and they had a lot of reunions, " said the younger O'Hara.
"He kept up with them and had a lot of friends."
Mr. O'Hara owned the Shop Quik Food Mart in Delhi Township from 1970 until last year; Dixie Food Marts in Latonia and Covington between 1952 and 1969; and Highland Laundry and Dry Cleaning in Highland Heights in the mid-1960s.
He was past president of both the Northern Kentucky Grocers Association and the American Association of Retired Persons in Cold Spring, plus a member of the Dayton American Legion.
Mr. O'Hara liked country music and visiting Renfro Valley Entertainment Center in Renfro Valley.
He and his wife, Julia, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.
"He was very generous and a devoted, loving father, " said Marcus O'Hara Jr.
"We're going to miss him so much."
Besides his son and wife, Mr. O'Hara is survived by a daughter, Julianne O'Hara of Southgate; two other sons, Monty O'Hara of Park Hills and Tim O'Hara of Alexandria; sisters, Georgie Chalk and Serena Rawe, both of Bellevue, and Kathy Silversack of Cincinnati; a brother, Donald Weigland of Lakeside Park; stepsisters, Loretta Thier of Cincinnati and Libby Thomas of Fort Thomas; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Church in Bellevue.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Dobbling Funeral Home in Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Southgate.
John Joseph Borchers Jr., 49, of Cincinnati, died at 9:42 p.m. Wednesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was an auto mechanic with Billups Co.
Survivors include a son, John Joseph Borchers III of Cincinnati; his father, John Joseph Borchers Sr. of Cincinnati; brothers, Rick Borchers of Burlington, Michael Borchers of Cincinnati and Martin Borchers of New Richmond, Ohio; and sisters, Connie S. Borchers of Cincinnati and Cathie Jo Johnson of Batavia, Ohio.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
Arthur Gillespie, 81, of Taylor, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice Unit in Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Wilson "Jiggs" Griggs, 85, of Villa Hills, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired quality inspector with General Electric, Cincinnati, a member of St. Joseph Church in Crescent Springs and a Navy veteran of World War II. He also served in the Marine Corps. His wife, Dorothy Lorraine Carius Griggs, died in 1999. A son, Charles Griggs, died in 1975.
Survivors include a son, Wilbur "Bill" G. Griggs of Villa Hills; a daughter, Sharon Baker of Dry Ridge; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Mary Margaret Hausman, 80, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Frances Meadows Hughes, 90, of Maysville, died Thursday at Maysville Extended Care Center. She was a farmer and a member of Seddon United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Rebecca Circle.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeannine Dwelly of Maysville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.
Mary Catherine Krummen Jones, 71, of Erlanger, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a member of the bereavement committee at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. She was a contributor to the National Shrine of St. Jude and was a volunteer with St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Jones; daughters, Deborah Jones of Erlanger and Dianne Doering of Richwood; sons, Daniel Jones of Cleveland, David Jones of Fort Thomas, Donald Jones of Latonia, Douglas Jones of Edgewood and Dennis Jones of Union; a brother, Paul Krummen of Florence; and 23 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Henry Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. William J. Kloeker Jr., 81, of Covington, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Woodcrest Manor Nursing Home, Elsmere. He was a retired carpenter with the Environmental Protection Agency and Turner Construction Co., and a member of Mother of God Church, Covington. He was a member of Florence Elks, Covington Moose Lodge No. 1469, Carpenters Union Local No. 100 and Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a former race track worker and a former member of the Mother of God Choral Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Ellen Roland Kloeker; daughters, Josephine Goodhew of Morning View and Annette Fussinger of Fort Mitchell; sons, William J. Kloeker III of Ludlow and Marvin R. Kloeker of Covington; sisters, Mirella Fulmer of Norwood, Ohio, Mary Jo Kiely of Independence and Natalie "Pudgie" Gosney of Independence; brothers, Paul Carroll Kloeker of Lawrenceburg, Ind., Matthew "Red" Kloeker of Edgewood, Mark "Corky" Kloeker of Crescent Springs and John "Mouse" Kloeker of Independence; and six grandchildren.

Sylvia Jeanette Greco Kremer, 79, of Fort Thomas, died at 2:20 a.m. Thursday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a homemaker. A daughter, Linda Lee, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Tom Kremer of Fort Thomas; daughters, Jennie Iulg of Southgate, Jackie Hofstetter and Georgette Kremer; a sister, Madge Kalker of Florence; and five grandchildren.

Bernice Geneva Feero Luddy, 82, of Falmouth, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Cyril Luddy, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Alfred David Luddy of Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Sharon Ann Allen of Falmouth; a brother, Al Feero of Waterbury, Conn.; sisters, Eva Hubble and Marcia Wallace, both of Florida; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Donald Edward Ralenkotter, 73, of Las Vegas, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Jan. 28 at his home. He was a dealer with the Sands Casino and the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Ralenkotter; a son, Rossi Ralenkotter of Las Vegas; sisters, Mary Felthaus of Lakeside Park and Rae Jo Ann Otto of Erlanger; a brother, Lannie Ralenkotter of Erlanger; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Feb. 1 in Las Vegas. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, handled local arrangements.
Harry Anthony Schoettmer, 91, of Florence, died Wednesday at his home. He was a farmer, a member of St. Paul Church in Florence and the Knights of Columbus, and emperor of the Immaculate Conception Church in Millhousen, Ind. His wife, Ethel Schoettmer; a son, Henry Schoettmer; and daughters, Elizabeth Foley and Nita Madrigal, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara Shover of Florence, Maydelle Wolfe and Joanne Miller, both of Indianapolis, Dolly Newman of Madison, Ind., and Mary Morris of West Port, Ind.; sons, Patrick Schoettmer of West Port, Ind., William Schoettmer of North Vernon, Ind., and Bobby Swallows of Barstow, Fla.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Agnes "Babe" Knuehl Schultz, 82, of Melbourne, died at 12:16 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Campbell County VFW Post No. 3205 Ladies Auxiliary, Alexandria. She was a former member of St. Phillip Church Mothers Club and Altar Society in Melbourne, and the Campbell County Homemakers.
Survivors include her husband, Edwin L. Schultz; daughters, Carol Short and Marilyn Kramer, both of Melbourne, and Ruth Hessling of Covington; a son, Jim Schultz of Melbourne; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Phillip Church, Melbourne. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor.
George J. Simon III, 60, of Newport, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired title runner with Kerry Chevrolet, Alexandria.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Cruse Simon; sons, David Simon and George Simon IV, both of Newport; daughters, Melissa Meister of Fort Mitchell and Mary Crank of Florence; a sister, Helena Pangallo of Newport; brothers, Mike Simon of Goose Rock, John Simon of Kenton, Ohio, and Tony Simon of Terre Haute, Ind.; a half-brother, Michael Benner of Kenton, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Daniel Owens Stephens, 62, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. He was a retired Trinity Industries worker, a deacon with Cynthiana Christian Church and an employee of Wright Powder Coating Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Judy T. Stephens; sons, Shain Stephens of Cynthiana and John Stephens of Chicago; a daughter, Amanda Faulconer of Cynthiana; a brother, James R. Stephens of Mount Sterling; a sister, Susan A. Lemons of Cynthiana; and nine grandchildren.

Wayne W. Tucker, 54, of Berry, died Thursday at his home. He was a truck driver.

Arthur J. Willenborg, 103, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Morning View, died Wednesday at Windsor Court Care Center in Naples. He was owner, president and CEO of C&D; Motor Delivery and State Trucking Co. His wife, Marie A. Nieman Willenborg, died in 1993.
Survivors include daughters, Jane O'Donnell of Florence, Norma W. Scott of Villa Hills and Carol Willenborg of Naples, Fla.; a sister, Mildred L. Willenborg of Fort Thomas; seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
