Rita 'Re-Re' Hebbeler, 'generous, thoughtful'
Rita "Re-Re" Hebbeler, a Lakeside Park resident for more than 25 years, died Monday morning at home. She was 80.
Miss Hebbeler got her nickname more than 50 years ago when an infant niece couldn't pronounce "Rita, " said her sister, Mary Arlinghaus of Elsmere. The nickname stuck and everyone, from her fellow bingo partners to other parishioners at St. Henry Church, knew her by it, Mrs. Arlinghaus said.
Miss Hebbeler was a tongue-fitter for the Miller Shoe Company in Northside, sewing tongues into shoes for more than 45 years. She retired 20 years ago, her sister said.
"She was a very generous, thoughtful person. She was so kindhearted and so good to my kids and to my grandkids, " Mrs. Arlinghaus said.
"She never married, so our family really became her family."
Miss Hebbeler was a member of St. Henry Church's Women's Altar Society and a graduate of Holy Cross High School in Latonia.
In addition to her sister, she is survived by a brother, Richard Hebbeler of Fort Wright; and nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Henry Church in Elsmere. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Catholic Social Services, 3629 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015.
Barry Lynn Beach, 54, of Covington, died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence, after an extended illness. He was a retired packaging operator with Butternut Bread Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Oakland Baptist Church
Survivors include a son, Kevin Beach of Crittenden; his mother and stepfather, Marie and Bill Muechell of Florence; his stepmother, Ann Beach of Warsaw; sisters, Linda Jackson of Foley, Ala., and Julie Clifton of Warsaw; a stepsister, Wanda Sullivan of Warsaw; a stepbrother, Randy Densler of Warsaw; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Paint Lick Cemetery.
Carole A. Miller Bowman, 63, of Cold Spring, died Tuesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a retired clerk for the Internal Revenue Service in Florence, and a member of St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring.
Survivors include her husband, John Bowman; sons, Dan Bowman of Cold Spring, Patrick Bowman of Loveland, Colo., and Tim Bowman of Newport; daughters, Judy Bowman of Fort Thomas and Kelley Bowman of Southgate; a sister, Judy Fischer of Fort Wright; a brother, Gerry Miller of Appleton, Wis.; and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Maude Shelley Ellison, 86, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a teacher with the Sycamore School District in Cincinnati and a member of Florence Christian Church, Kenwood Baptist Church in Cincinnati and the Ohio Teachers Association. Her husband, Herman Union Ellison, died in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Howard of Florence; a sister, Thelma Coffey of Cincinnati; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Florence Christian Church, 300 Main St., Florence, Ky. 41042.
Pamela "Fredda" Frost, 39, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Lawson of Highland Heights; sons, David Frost of Georgetown, and Joey Frost and Christopher Frost, both of Newport; a daughter, Savanna Frost of Georgetown; her mother, Mable Burton of Newport; brothers, Adam Burton Jr. of Elmwood, Ohio, Ronnie Frost, James Frost, Donald Frost and Ricky Frost, all of Newport, and Timothy Frost of Georgetown; and sisters, Nada Burton and Francis Anaruma, both of Newport.
Services will be at noon Friday at Keturah Church of God, Newport. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Elsie G. Haas, 80, of Brooksville, died Tuesday at Robertson County Health Care Center, Mount Olivet. She was a cook and a member of Berean Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Haas; sons, Michael Miller of Jenkins and Steve Miller of Irvine; brothers, Earl Whisman of Michigan and Glen Whisman of Asheville, N.C.; sisters, Lily Maloney of Mount Sterling and Ruby Johnson of Winchester; and two grandchildren.

Clarence Boyers Hill, 86, of Cynthiana, died Tuesday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer. His first wife, Ruby Garrison Hill, died in 1979. A son, Larry Eugene Hill, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis McDonald Hill; a son, David Hill of Cynthiana; a stepson, Kenneth McDonald of Carlisle; a stepdaughter, Carol Withers of Lexington; a sister, Odella Garrison of Berry; and two grandchildren.

Robert C. Johnson, 88, of Covington, died at 10:10 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was founder and owner of Clark Henry Machine Tool Co., Covington, and was a chemical, mechanical and electrical engineer.
Survivors include a daughter, Joann Shanker of Goodwater, Ala.; a brother, Milton Johnson of Ashtabula, Ohio; sisters, Doris Johnson and Lois Johnson, both of Ashtabula; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

William Nieberding, 88, of Erlanger, died at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. He was a retired printer with Burrows Corp., Cincinnati, a member of Pohlmann-Linnemann VFW Post No. 1484 in Park Hills, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Anita M. Thornsburg Nieberding; nieces and nephews.

Ella Strausbaugh Riley, 96, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Butler Methodist Church. Her husband, Earl Riley, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Riley of Union; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation will begin there at noon Saturday. Burial will be in Peach Grove Cemetery.
Dorothy Kathryn Mills Surber, 90, of Covington, died at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a retired assistant to the regional manager of the Internal Revenue Service and a member of St. Helen's Society of Holy Cross Church, Latonia, and the American Women's Business Association. Her husband, Evan Surber, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, David F. Surber of Covington and Raymond E. Surber of Raytown, Mo.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Nora Garrison Valentine, 94, of Florence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Greenview Baptist Church. Her husband, Caleb Henry Valentine, and a son, Carroll Valentine, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Thelma Brown of Fort Thomas and Jeree Serdynski of Florence; sons, Kenneth Valentine of Barbourville, Harold Valentine of Florence, Don Valentine and John Valentine, both of Burlington, Jerry Valentine of Hebron, Jimmy Valentine of Dahlonega, Ga., and Denny Valentine of Delhi, Ohio; 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
