Dorothy Bertelsman, 89, dedicated to her family

Dorothy Bertelsman, 89, of Fort Thomas, the mother of Covington U.S. District Court Judge William O. Bertelsman, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East.

Mrs. Bertelsman, a native of Newport, was a legal secretary before she married Campbell County Judge-Executive Odis W. Bertelsman in 1935. The couple had been married 56 years when Mr. Bertelsman died in 1991.

"She dedicated herself to her family her whole life, " said Judge Bertelsman. "She was very much a family person.

"She loved getting together with relatives at family gatherings. She was very outgoing, with lots of friends."

Mrs. Bertelsman was a member of the Highland Country Club and St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas.

Other survivors include three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation, and funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Dobbling Funeral Home in Fort Thomas is in charge of arrangements.

Dot Marie Riddle Ball, 74, of Morning View, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker and a member of Decoursey Baptist Church. Her husband, Shirley Linzy Ball, died in 1999.

Survivors include sons, John David Ball of Morning View, Jerry Allen Ball of Independence, Charles Wayne Ball of Crittenden, Carl Lloyd Ball of Walton and Kenneth Linzy Ball of Fort Mitchell; daughters, Brenda Marie Taylor of Independence, Barbara Jean Wilson of Morning View and Lois Ann Brueckner of Burlington; sisters, Mary Abney and Ann Robbins, both of Taylor Mill, and Judy Riddle of Independence; brothers, James Riddle of Alexandria, Va., Wayne Riddle of Dry Ridge, Ronnie Riddle of Morning View, Bobby Riddle of Corinth and Albert Riddle of Independence; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Kenton Baptist Church, 14701 Decoursey Pike, Morning View, Ky. 41063.

Price Wesley Buford, 77, of Covington, died Wednesday.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Buford; stepsons, Don Slaughter, Michael Slaughter, Daryl Slaughter and Maurice Slaughter, all of Covington; and six grandchildren.

No services are planned. Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Edward C. "Jack" Clore, 81, of Tavares, Fla., formerly of Petersburg, died Thursday at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, Fla. He was a retired fuel service worker with Delta Air Lines, a member of First Baptist Church in Tavares, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Frances E. Clore, died in 1996.

Survivors include sons, Edward J. Clore of Atlanta and Gaylen F. Clore of Kissimmee, Fla.; daughters, Mary Ann Kufeldt and Beverly Redlhammer, both of Miami; brothers, Gerald Clore and Alvin Clore, both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to World War II Memorial Fund, American Battle Monument Commission, P. O. Box 96766 Washington, D.C. 20090.

Harry Louis Cook, 92, of Latonia, died at 9:40 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired frame man with Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers. His wife, Clara L. Rieger Cook, died in 2001.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula Sue Cook of Florence; a son, John Cook of Latonia; brothers, Joseph Cook and Ray Cook, both of East Liverpool, Ohio; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be private. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Welcome House, 133 E. 11th St., Covington, Ky. 41011. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Ronald Wayne Covington, 50, of Owenton, died Saturday at New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton. He was a carpenter and a member of Beechwood Assembly of God. His wife, Joyce Wainscott Covington, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Ronald Wayne Covington Jr. of Crescent Springs, and Douglas Lee Covington of Florence; daughters, Ronissa Perkins of Owenton, Robin Elaine Covington of Dry Ridge and Tara Smith of Monterey; a brother, Gary Lee Covington of Ohio; sisters, Debbie Johnson and Teresa Phipps, both of Cincinnati; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery.

Stanley B. Crawford, 91, of Covington, died at 1:25 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired machinist with General Electric Co., Cincinnati, and a member of First Church of God, Latonia.

Survivors include a son, Bart Crawford of Tucson, Ariz.; daughters, Charlene Baker of Erlanger, and Judy Vittitue of Florence, and Sandra Meiman of Covington; brothers, Edwin Crawford of Fort Wright, and Courtland Crawford of Lecanto, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were at noon today at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Church of God, 524 W. Southern Ave., Covington, Ky. 41015.

William B. Daniels, 97, of Bellevue, died Friday at his home. He was a tool and die maker with Knowlton Manufacturing Co. in Norwood, Ohio, and a member of St. John Anglican Church in Dayton. His first wife, Cardine Daniels, and a son, William T. Daniels, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Garnet Lewis Daniels; a daughter, Carolyn Cox of Columbus, Ga.; a son, James B. Daniels of Cincinnati; a stepson, Todd Lewis of Bellevue; stepdaughters, Cinda Miller of Lynchburg, Ohio, Marla Oliver of Edgewood, Linda Strange and Karen Trimbur, both of Florence, and Rhonda Welch of Cold Spring; and grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Anglican Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor.

William E. Ensley, 77, of Waynesville, N.C., died Thursday at Autumn Care in Waynesville. He was a maintenance worker, a member of Temple Baptist Church in Waynesville and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include sons, Jerry Ensley of Erlanger, and Greg Ensley of Florence; daughters, Evelyn Denton of Walton, and Tammy Padgett of Florence; sisters, Marjorie Deweese, Betty Cogdill, Linda Taylor, Shirley Hill, Mildred Hill and Peggy Sheehan, all of Waynesville, and Judy Whitley of Alabama; brothers, H. P. Ensley and Jerry Ensley, both of Waynesville; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Hamilton-StanleyFuneral Home, Verona, is handling local arrangements.

Dr. Antonio Lopez Escamilla, 78 of Cocoa Beach, Fla., died Thursday at Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cape Canaveral, Fla. He was a retired anesthesiologist with St. Elizabeth Medical Centers and Booth Hospital, and was a former chief anesthesiologist with St. Francis Hospital, Western Hills campus, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Fina Escamilla; a daughter, Elena Escamilla of Orlando; a son, Antonio Roberto Escamilla of Villa Hills; and a sister, Elisa Lopez Escamilla of Valencia, Spain.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. today at Church of Our Saviors Church, Cocoa Beach. Memorials are suggested to United Ministries, 525 Graves Ave., Erlanger, Ky. 41018. Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, Cocoa Beach, is handling arrangements.

Betty M. Forster, 83, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Baptist Village Care Center, Erlanger. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert Forster, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, David Forster of Cincinnati, Eric Forster of Bellevue, Kirk Forster of Alexandria and Robert Forster of Covington; daughters, Holly Schoo of Miami Township, Ohio, and Elizabeth Wagner of Alexandria; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Jeanette Hall, 80, of Bromley, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a retired secretary with Riggs Engineering Co., Bromley, and a member of Bromley Christian Church. Her husband, Lloyd Hall, died in 1985.

Survivors include a son, Tom Hall of Erlanger; a daughter, Beverly Ballard of Erlanger; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. William Hall, 73, of Owenton, died Saturday at New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton. He was a farmer, a retired employee of the Kentucky Highway Department, a member of Swallowfield Church of Christ and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Fay Kemper Hall; and brothers, Harold Hall of Lawrenceburg, Bobby Hall and Glenn Hall, both of Frankfort.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.

Stella J. Heitzman, 93, of Taylor Mill, died at 2:22 p.m. Saturday at Mary Rose Mission, Covington.

She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. She was a member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Legion of Mary, Holy Cross Seniors, Knights of St. John, Sunny Acres Seniors Society, St. Helen's Society, Winston Park Homemakers and was a former Girl Scout leader. Her husband, Clarence F. "Abe" Heitzman, died in 1974. A son, Covington assistant fire chief Donald L. Heitzman, died in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Heitzman Goohs of San Diego; a son, Rev. Clarence J. Heitzman of Southgate; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m Wednesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Prayers will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Therese School Building Fund, 11 Temple Place, Southgate, Ky. 41071; or Mary Rose Mission, 1543 Russell St., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Nancy Margarate Poe, 87, of Butler, died Friday at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was a writer and a retired physical and health education teacher with junior and senior high schools in Newport and was chairman of Miami University's and Florida Atlantic University's departments of physical education.

Survivors include nieces, Nancy Ling and Ana Remmy, and a nephew, Tom Gibbons.

Graveside services were Sunday at Butler Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home, Butler, handled arrangements.

Rita Elizabeth Talbert Pope, of Crescent Springs, died at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday at Villa Springs Care Center, Erlanger. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Roy L. Pope, died in 1955.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. Mueller of Crescent Springs; a brother, Paul Talbert of Fort Wright; a sister, Rose Siemer of Fort Mitchell; and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. John "Rob" Robinson, of Fort Mitchell, died Friday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired postal carrier in Cincinnati and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Pappas Robinson; brothers, Dick Robinson, Tom Robinson and Harry Robinson, all of Cincinnati; and a sister, Mary Catherine Schomaker of Cincinnati.

Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Mr. Robinson bequeathed his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. James Alvin Schneider, 46, of Covington, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. He was a mechanic with Kelly Springfield Co., Newport, and a member of St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs.

Survivor include his mother, Mary J. Walke Schneider of Crescent Springs; a sister, Lisa Pallan of Crestview Hills; and brothers, Paul Schneider of Hebron and Timothy Schneider of Crescent Springs.

Audrey D. Smith, 92, of Williamstown, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Grant County.

Clara Lee Thaman, 77, of Cincinnati, died Saturday at Franciscan Hospital in Cincinnati. She was a hair stylist, owner and operator of Lee's Petite in Cincinnati.

Survivors include sisters, Margaret Johnson of Erlanger, Elsie Boothe and Brenda Roland of Floriday, Joyce Whitney of Arizona, Geneva Whaley of Cincinnati and Belva Tomlin of Covington; and a brother, Henry Covey of Independence.

Andrew J. Turner, 84, of Independence, died Friday at his daughter's home in Florence. He was an Air Force veteran, and a member of Church of Christ, Florence, and Ralph Fulton VFW Post No. 6423, Elsmere.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Turner of Union; daughters, Jacqueline Smith of Florence and Deborah Masden of Independence; brothers, Lawrence Turner of Orlando, Fla., and Issac Turner of Miamitown, Ohio; a sister, Ollie Holland of Batavia, Ohio; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Eric Gene Vohl, 36, of Covington, died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday at Turfside Motel, Florence.

He was a welder with CSI Construction.

Survivors include his wife, Lynette Vohl of Erlanger; a son, Eric G. Vohl Jr. of Erlanger; daughters, LaRhonda Vohl and Linda Frizzell, both of Erlanger; his mother, Judith Richardson of Covington; brothers, Gary Vohl of Latonia, Dale Engle of Taylor Mill, James Richardson of Dayton and Troy Vohl and Brian Vohl, both of Covington.

Services were this morning at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Corbet Watts, 72, of Cold Spring, died at 9:35 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired maintenance superintendent with Northern Kentucky Sanitation District No. 1, Villa Hills. His first wife, Emma Watts, died in 1984. A daughter, Sheila Mullens, died in 1977. A son, James Watts, died in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Watts; sons, Gary Watts of Alexandria, Tim Watts of Cold Spring, and Tony Watts of Walton; stepdaughters, Sandy Spicer of Winchester, and Patricia Krebs of Latonia; a stepson, Doug Matherly of Covington; sisters, Thelma Johnson of Winchester, and Gladys Newton of Mount Sterling; brothers, Fritz Watts of Highland Heights, and Jay Watts of Watts; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Irene E. Workman, 86, of Florence, died Saturday at Village Care Center, Erlanger. Her husband, Walter E. Workman, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, William E. Workman of Twinsburg, Ohio; daughters, Jo Ann Newman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Carol W. Blair of Florence; brothers, Lee Faulkner of Lodi, Ohio, and Bill Faulkner of Wooster, Ohio; a sister, Lillian Hester of Lodi; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

No services are planned. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
