Naomi Combs, 'family historian'
Naomi Spencer Combs, a resident of Covington for more than 50 years, never met a stranger.
"She would walk up to you and start asking questions: What's your name? Where are you from? Do you go to church?" said her daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Harris of Longwood, Fla. "By the end of the conversation she would know everything about you."
She knew family even better, Ms. Harris said.
"Our family was so huge - she was from a family of 12, my father from a family of 11 - but she knew every name in every generation as well as who was having a baby next, " Ms. Harris said. "She was the family historian."
Mrs. Combs, who taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school at South Side Baptist Church for about 40 years, died Sunday after noon at Baptist Village Care Center, Erlanger. She was 94.
Mrs. Combs was born in Lee County, but moved to Kenton County during the Great Depression. Her husband, Arnold Dee Combs, built a house on South Linden Street in Coving ton in 1938, where she lived until she began suffering heart problems about seven years ago, Ms. Harris said.
She was a past president of the local PTA and an officer with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brother hood of Railway Trainmen.
Her husband died in 1986. A daughter, Janice, died as an infant; a second daughter, LaDonna, died in 1993.
In addition to Ms. Harris, she is survived by a second daughter, Charmaine Westerman of Villa Hills; a son, John W. Combs of Lan tana, Fla.; a brother, Lonnie Spen cer of Winter Park, Fla.; a sister, Lorene Fugate of South Lebanon, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Harold Lee Broyles, 77, of Corinth, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Grant County, Williamstown. He was a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Cincinnati, a member of Antioch Church of Christ, Corinth, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a brother, John Broyles of Williamstown; and sisters, Ella Margaret Broyles of Batesville, Ind., Blanche Swanson of Naples, Fla., Mary Rose Smith of Rural Hall, N.C., and Jean Barton of Florida.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Antioch Church of Christ, Keefer Road, Corinth, Ky. 41010.
Lance S. Dallary, 32, of Petersburg, died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a mechanic with T/A Truck Stop.
Survivors include his wife, Robyn Ligon Dallary; a son, Lance S. Dallary III, at home; sisters, Winnie Dooley of Warsaw, Kathy Figard of Erlanger and Vicki Davidson of Independence; and brothers, Richard Dallary Jr. and Francis Dallary, both of Bradford, Pa., Wade Valois of Taylor Mill, Tom Dignard of Billingham, Mass., James Dallary of Florida and Ron Dallary of Leomister, Mass.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Petersburg Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery. Clifford Floyd, 81, of Ludlow, died Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. He was a maintenance worker with the Kroger Co. A daughter, Arnita Jackson, died in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Floyd; a son, Clifford Floyd Jr. of Berry; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Rosemary Catherine Hehman, 85, of Fort Thomas, died Tuesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, George Hehman Sr., died in 1990. A son, George Hehman Jr., died in 1961.
Survivors include sisters, Adelaide Gough of Fort Thomas and Rita Schoech of Bellevue; and brothers, Charles F. Lorenz of Fort Thomas and Edward J. Lorenz of Cincinnati.

Patrick Joseph Victor Holmes Jr., 56, of Florence, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a truck driver with IBEW Union and a security officer with Chesley Brown International, Cincinnati. He was a member of St. Charles Church, New York City, and Union Local No. 3, New York.
Survivors include a son, Patrick Joseph Victor Holmes III of Florence; brothers, Thomas Holmes and Jimmy Holmes, both Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a sister, Ann Marie Arena of Staten Island, N.Y.

Kennison M. Keene, 78, of Frankfort, formerly of Newport, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired commercial artist and owner of Community Press Service, Frankfort. His wife, Virginia Racke Keene, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce K. Sprong of Wilder; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bertha Lazak, 98, of Florence, died Tuesday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Joseph J. Lazak, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Joseph Lazak of Cincinnati and Mary Ann Schaber of Fort Wright; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Bernie S. Lykins, 83, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a general contractor and real estate broker, and was owner of B&L; Sales, Highland Heights. He was a member of Syrian Shrine Temple, Cincinnati, and Fort Thomas Lodge No. 808, and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hanson of Alexandria; a son, Keith Lykins of Atlanta; sisters, Beatrice Long of Morehead and Ruth Heines of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Pony Lykins of Russell; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be private. Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.
Vernon C. Mink, 81 of Covington, died at 5:52 p.m. Tuesday at Hillandale Health Care Center in Hamilton, Ohio. He was a retired machinist with Schaefer Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include sons, Jerry Mink of Camarillo, Calif., and Mike Mink of Oklahoma City; daughters, Connie Daley, Gail Hoffman and Verna Holt, all of Hamilton, Ohio; brothers, R. Bruce Mink of Centerville, Ohio, and Clark Mink of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Betty L. Dunker of Owensboro; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Harold "Buck" Robinson, 64, of Sanders, died Monday at his home. He was a mechanic, a member of Bramblett Baptist Church and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Lilly Robinson; stepsons, David Alexander of Murray, Don Alexander of Sanders, Jackie Alexander of Nicholasville and Tony Alexander of Carrollton; daughters, Lotasha Alexander of Dry Ridge and Kim Covey of Napoleon; a brother, Robert Lee Robinson of Somerset; a half-brother, Gary Craig of New Liberty; a sister, Mary Mandy Gilvin of Mount Sterling; half-sisters, Martha Lee Patrick and Charlene Spencer, both of Mount Sterling, and Ruby of Frenchburg; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton.
Rosemary Rosenfeldt, 87, of Boone County, died Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence.

John "Jack" Schmidt, 74, of Cashiers, N.C., died Wednesday at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C. He was a retired commercial artist and president of Deskey Associates, a member of St. Jude Church in Cashiers and Country Club of Sapphire Valley, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Resing Schmidt; sons, Dr. Jay John Schmidt of Lenoir, N.C., and Michael Joseph Schmidt of Newport; and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Church. Burial will be in St. Jude Church Cemetery, Cashiers. Carol Stephens, 67, of Fort Wright, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired secretary with and a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Latonia and Fort Wright Garden Club.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Pauline Stephens, 71, of New Richmond, Ohio, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Saturday at Dobbins Nursing Home in New Richmond. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Leroy Stephens, died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Ron Stephens of New Richmond; a daughter, Kathy Hall of New Richmond; a sister, Judy Pyle of Indianapolis; and a brother, Howard Capps of Indianapolis.
