Allen Meyer, coached youth football teams
Allen Meyer, a longtime youth football coach and outdoorsman, died at 1:55 p.m. Friday at his Florence home after a long illness. He was 58.
Mr. Meyer coached Fort Mitchell Spartans youth football teams for 25 years and was an assistant coach at Covington Catholic in the early 1980s and at Dixie Heights High School in the late 1980s.
"He had a knack for being able to get the game across to kids, " said his wife, Kathy Meyer. "He was a really good teacher."
He was disciplined and ran his teams like a general, his wife said. "But he was very soft inside. Every kid who played for him loved him."
Two of his former players, Mark Pike and Chris Derry, will serve as pallbearers.
Pike played college football at Georgia Tech and professional football for the Buffalo Bills.
Derry is a former running back for the University of Kentucky.
"He was absolutely to this day one of the most influential guys in both of our lives, " Derry said of Mr. Meyer. "He really taught us everything about football and made us competitors at an early age. And not just us. He taught hundreds of guys."
Derry said Mr. Meyer coached 25 players who went on to earn NCAA Division I football scholarships.
el, 2 Mr. Meyer was a switchman/conductor for CSX Railroad until 1990, when he became a park ranger at Big Bone Lick State Park. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid turkey hunter
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons Keith Meyer of Florence, Kyle Meyer of Florence and Kris Meyer of South Carolina; daughters Kim Smith of Union and Jeannie Hutchinson of Crittenden; sisters Jackie Tod- hunter of Harrison, Ohio, Jenny Cooper of Florence, Mary Dance of Independence; brother Marty Meyer of Union; 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Bob Bowman, 63, of Covington, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a painter for Paramount's Kings Island.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Hester Bowman of Covington; daughters, Vickie Palmer of Morning View and Pamela Steward of Covington; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Ruth M. Dahlhoff, 81, of Covington, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a retired operator with Cincinnati Bell Telephone Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. John Church, Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph H. Dahlhoff of Covington; sons, Leonard Dahlhoff of Erlanger, David Dahlhoff of Cincinnati and Dennis Dahlhoff of Covington; daughters, Diane Goetz of Fort Mitchell and Karen Stetter of Fort Wright; and 12 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Elizabeth Diana Hisle, 51, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at her home.
Survivors include a brother, Larry Hisle of Harrison County; and sisters, Bonnie Stith of of Cynthiana and Phyllis Fuller of Millersburg.
Services will be at noon Monday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.
Betty Jean Jones, 72, of Dry Ridge, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker, an employee of McAlpin's, Cincinnati, and a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Laurence Jones of Dry Ridge; daughters, Shelly Creasy of Kansas City, Mo., Can dace Jones of Hyde Park, Ohio, and Julia Ann Boggio of Crittenden; a brother, Bill Jones of Aberdeen, Md.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
There will be no services or visitation.

Dinah Knox, 82, of Highland Heights, died Thursday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights.
She was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church, Covington. Her husband, Andrew Knox, and a daughter, Alice Smith, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Robert Burns Sr. of Covington; a sister, Annie McCracken of Covington; and a grandson.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ninth Street Baptist. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Mary Smith Cemetery, Elsmere.
Alvin R. McIntosh, 63, of Southgate, died at 10:45 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a retired sales executive for Rueben Donnelly Co., Cincinnati, and Yellow Pages, Cincinnati. A son, Michael McIntosh, died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Randall A. McIntosh of Newport; a daughter, Kimberly A. Gross of Erlanger; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

She was a retired teacher at A.D. Owens Elementary School and a member of Christ Church Cathedral, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen Teremi of Newport; sons, Stephen O. Teremi of Fairfield, Ohio, and Mark T. Teremi of Erlanger; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Church Cathedral. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate.
Robert L. Thomas, 53, of Ludlow, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.
He was a supervisor with United Parcel Service, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Agnes Church, Park Hills, Kehoe Council Knights of Columbus, St. Agnes Holy Name Society, and Neighbors to Neighbors of UPS, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Fran Monahan Thomas of Ludlow; daughters, Beth Thomas, Becky Thomas, Shelly Thomas and Julie Thomas, all at home; a broth er, Richard Thomas of Cincinnati; and a sister, Mary Thomas of Cincinnati.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Scharline "Granny" Valentine, 73, of Bromley, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Matthew "Poppy" Valentine, died in 2001; a son, Larry Valentine, died in 1964; and a daughter, Marcell Cobb, died in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Valentine of Florence; a daughter, Karen Heuser of Bromley; sisters, Estellene Lovins of Maryland, Jean Robinson of Hamilton, Ohio, Verla Sayers of Silver Grove, Betty Norton of Cincinnati, and Sue Messer and Gloria Sayler, both of Ludlow; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery, Cincinnati.
