Christopher Sauer, horse owner, trainer and warehouse worker
Christopher R. Sauer, 44, of Fort Thomas, who owned and trained race horses in the 1980s, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.
Mr. Sauer, a warehouse worker at the Gap Warehouse in Boone County, had suffered a heart attack Jan. 2.
Horses owned and trained by Mr. Sauer posted wins at Turfway Park, Keeneland, Churchill Downs and River Downs.
"He loved horses, " said Mr. Sauer's mother, Peggy Sauer of Fort Thomas. "Going to the race track was his favorite thing to do.
"Even after he left the business, he still enjoyed being around horses and watching the thoroughbreds run."
Mr. Sauer also was a music lover.
"He loved the popular bands that would come to town for concerts, " said Mrs. Sauer.
She said her son had been in high spirits in recent months.
"He had gotten back together with his old girlfriend, and they were making plans for the future, " she said. "He was happier the last six months than he ever had been.
"He was a sweet, happy-go-lucky, nice man. Everyone loved him. To know him was to love him."
Other survivors include a brother, Cary S. Sauer of Murrell's Inlet, S.C., and a sister, Lisa Aker of Elsmere.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery.

Carl Alexander, 66, of Norwood, Ohio, formerly of Owen County, died Sunday at Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a buyer with the American Laundry Co.
Survivors include brothers, Lloyd Alexander of LaGrange, Reginel Alexander of Sparta, Anfred Alexander of Canton, Ga., Herbert Alexander of Bloomington, Ind., and Donald Alexander of Florence; and sisters, Ernestine Alexander of Norwood, Norma French of Florence and Gean Hinton of Sebring, Fla.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton.
Mary Katherine Anneken, 53, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a self-employed title searcher.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Anneken, and her father, Howard A. Anneken Sr., of Fort Wright; brothers, Howard Anneken of Fort Mitchell and James Anneken of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister, Peggy Anneken of Cincinnati.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Boone County Animal Shelter, 5643 Idlewild Road, Burlington, Ky. 41005. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Mary Lee Campbell, 71, of Covington, died at 10:52 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired manager with Stop & Go and attended East Side Church of the Nazarene, Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Ray T. Campbell; sons, Johnny Campbell of Cincinnati, Tommy Campbell of Independence and James Campbell of Crittenden; daughters, Donna Campbell of Covington, Karen Mainous of Falmouth and Annette Gripshover of Crittenden; brothers, Nelson Herring of Paris, Carlos Herring of Burlington and Robert Herring of Covington; a sister, Betty Herring of Taylor Mill; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
John A. Gaddis, 48, of Covington, died at 4:30 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a machine operator with DFI Pultruded Composites in Hebron and a member of South Side Baptist Church, Covington. He was a former groundskeeper with Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn J. Tomlin Gaddis; sons, Benjamin D. Gaddis, Daniel A. Gaddis and Jeremy Gaddis, all of Covington; his mother, Frances Donna Dunn of Covington; a sister, Donna Gaddis of Covington; and brothers, Daniel Gaddis of Taylor Mill and Chuck Dunn of Covington.

Larry D. Gibson Jr., 63, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a printing technician with Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Mary "Toni" Gibson; sons, Christopher E. Gibson of Southgate and Lawrence D. Gibson III of Trumbull, Conn.; his mother, Virginia Root of Fort Thomas; and brothers, Eric Gibson of Malvern, Pa., Greg Gibson of Stockton, Calif., and Nick Root of Silver Grove; and two grandchildren.

Vina Pearl Horton, 71, of Florence, died Monday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence.

Carol Jasper, 55, of Ludlow, died Monday at Ridge Pavilion, Cincinnati.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Jasper; a son, David Jasper of Ludlow; daughters, Christine Jasper of Ludlow and Erica Couch of Erlanger; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Alvin R. McIntosh, 63, of Southgate, died at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired sales executive with Reuben Donnelley Yellow Pages, Cincinnati. A son, Michael McIntosh, died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Randall A. McIntosh of Newport; a daughter, Kimberly A. Gross of Erlanger; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
William Edward Smith, 36, of Covington, died at 11 p.m. Saturday at his home.
He was a disabled machinist with Mid States Steel Corp., Cincinnati, and a former janitor at Crescent Springs Elementary School. He was a member of Sherman Full Gospel Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky Lynn Smith of Latonia; a son, Nathanael Smith of Covington; his mother and stepfather, Barbara Ann and Carl L. Brewer, both of Covington; and sisters, Theresa Ann Cotter and Deborah Asby, both of Junction City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Russell G. Stamper, 75, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Grant County, died Monday at Lake County Regional Medical Center, Leesburg.

Delores Stratton, 76, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Morning View Baptist Church. Sons Junior Stratton and David Stratton died in 1967 and 2001, respectively.
Survivors include sons, Larry Stratton of Erlanger, Johnny Stratton and Greg Stratton, both of Covington; daughters, Bonnie Lantry of Taylor Mill and Sandra Williams of Ludlow; sisters, Janice Spence and Iva McCandless, both of Florence, and Joyce Price of West Covington; brothers, Ronnie Haggard and Pete Haggard, both of West Covington, Lee Haggard of Union and Harold Haggard of Independence; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

William L. Taylor, 71, of Sanders, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a former electrician with Celtex, Cincinnati, and a member of Marhes Siding Church of God. His wife, Edith Barbara Taylor, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, David Taylor of Sanders and Bruce Taylor of Lockland, Ohio; daughters, Gloria Valentine of Blanchester, Ohio, and Karen Stanfield of Deer Park, Ohio; sisters, Effie Morris of Loveland, Ohio, and June Thomas of Yuma, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Margaret Fisk Wainscott, 84, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Independence, and the Kenton County Homemakers. Her husband, Robert Wainscott, died in 1989.
Survivors include sons, Robert Phillip Wainscott and James Richard Wainscott, both of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Suzanne Wainscott of Independence; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Sandra Poe Willenbourg, 38, of Cincinnati, was found dead Sunday in Pierce Township in Ohio. She died of injuries suffered in an auto accident. She was a waitress with Barrell House.
Survivors include a son, Shaun Willenbourg; her parents, Ray and Sudie Simons Poe of Cincinnati; sisters, Mary Watling, Susan Smyth and Cheri Buckley, all of Cincinnati; a brother, Tony Poe of Ripley, Ohio; and grandmother, Mildred Poe of Maysville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Thelma Alice Works, 86, of Latonia, died at 9:05 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired custodian with First Christian Church, Covington, and a member of Latonia Baptist Church. Her husband, Oakley Works, died in 1951. A son, Maynard Lee Works, died in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Douglas Works of Covington; daughters, Hazel Roland of Burnside and Ellen Fickisen of Florence; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
