Florence Krafft, secretary, had a great sense of humor
Florence Elizabeth Krafftcq, 96, of Dayton, who worked 60 years as a secretary, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
Employed by Lever Brothers and several other companies, she didn't retire until she was 78.
Mrs. Krafft also was former editor of the Speers Court monthly newsletter, a life-long member of St. Bernard's Church in Dayton and a member of St. Bernard's 55 Club.
"She was a widow for 45 years and led a very conservative German Catholic life, " said her son, James Krafft of Anderson Township.
"She was born in Dayton and lived most of her life there. Her apartment in a senior citizens home on Speers Court was very near the spot where her children were born at old Speers Hospital."
Krafft's wife, Janet, said Florence Krafft had a very good sense of humor.
"She was an excellent mother-in-law for 37 years, " she said.
Other survivors include a daughter, Carol Davis of Galion, Ohio; a brother, Stanley Loos of Highland Heights; a sister, Jeanette Thorson of Dayton; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Bernard Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home in Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen cemetery in Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Victor "Shorty" Carson, 73, of Grants Lick, died Thursday at his home. He was a retired employee of Heekin Can Co. and a retired Navy veteran, and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jacquelyn Carson; sons, Victor Carson of Pensacola, Fla., Billy Carson of Grants Lick and David Carson of Highland Heights; a daughter, Darlene Peters of Ricetown; brothers, William Kenneth Carson of Alexandria and Donald Gene Carson of Claryville; sisters, Ruth Ann Ivey and Thelma Lou Emery, both of Claryville, Claudia Lynn Williams of Visalia and Audrey Jean Hofstetter of Alexandria; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Madge M. Concannon, 71, of Latonia, died at 1:40 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of Marshall-Schildmeyer VFW Post No. 6095 Women's Auxiliary in Latonia and American Legion Post No. 203, Latonia.
Survivors include her husband, John C. Concannon; sons, Charles D. Gay of Gainesville, Fla., and Mike Concannon of Latonia; a daughter, Avis M. Gay of Gainesville; a brother, Bill Parrish of Trenton, Fla.; a sister, Elouise Weingart of Salem, Ohio; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.
Chadd Cooper, 44, of West Covington, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a material handler with Betts USA Co.
Survivors include a daughter, Christian Cooper of Dry Ridge; parents, Andrew and Delores Cooper of Morehead; a brother, Andy Cooper of Morehead; and friend, Bryan Dennison of Ludlow.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Stegall Cemetery, Morehead. Memorials are suggested to Aids Volunteers of Cincinnati, or FACE, 2183 Central Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45214.
Scottie Wayne Davis, 29, of Fort Wright, died Tuesday at his home.
He was disabled.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley K. Davis of Fort Wright; sisters, Marcia Crim of Latonia, Sharelle Ward and Sharae Ward, both of Fort Wright; and grandmother, Shirley Forgue of Carrollton.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Visi tation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Entombment will be in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright.
Melvin Giles, 85, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at University Medical Center, Lexington. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Gunsauley Giles.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.
Wayne Griggs, 58, of Dayton, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a warehouse worker with XPEDX, owner of Seventh Avenue Cafe in Dayton and a member of Newport Masonic Lodge No. 358 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Deanna Griggs; daughters, Julie Brock of Alexandria and Beverly Kramer of Fort Thomas; a son, Matthew Griggs of Newport; stepdaughters, Cindy Barbiea of Dayton and Melanie Hubble of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepsons, Lonnie Barbiea of Bellevue and Steven Barbiea of Dayton; his father, Claude Griggs of Richwood; sisters, Betty Bain of Vero Beach, Fla., and Ruth Sceben of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; brothers, Tilman Bain of Vero Beach, Bob Griggs of Fort Wayne, Ind., Jim Griggs and Jack Griggs, both of Richwood, and Paul Griggs of Ostrander, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Gladys Litteral, 82, of Newport, died Tuesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was an employee of Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include cousins, Beverly Martin of Ludlow, Dr. James Morris of Huntington, W.Va., and Harold Morris of Salt Lake City.

William L. Myers, 77, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Dayton, died Tuesday at his home. He was a transmission inspector with Ford Motor Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. Bernard Church, Dayton. He attended St. Jude Church in St. Petersburg.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Myers; daughters, Carmella "Decca" Bucchel of Fort Thomas, Barbara Ryan of Covington and Donna Zorns of Newport; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Earl "Bob" Slay Jr., 67, of West Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a maintenance administrator with Cincinnati Bell. A daughter, Darlene Slay, died in 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Slay; brothers, Billy Slay of Findlay, Ohio, Terry Slay of Custar, Ohio, and Michael Slay of Sycamore, Ohio; and sisters, Joyce Mock of Mesa, Ariz., and Jane Slay of Fostoria, Ohio.

Carl Buford Williams, 64, of Newport, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include daughters, Carla Wiliams of Florence and Diane Williams of Las Vegas; brothers, Glen Williams of Covington, Clyde Williams of Cincinnati and Claude Williams of Florence; sisters, Ada Back and Jean Stedder, both of Florence, Charlotte Turner of Mossville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
