Leo Teipel, mechanical engineer, Navy veteran

Leo Teipel, 78, of Fort Wright, a mechanical engineer and business executive, died Saturday of cancer at St. Charles Care Center in Covington.

He worked at the Stewart Iron Works in Covington and Folger Adam Co. in Joliet, Ill., where he was vice president of the company.

He also was president of Fries Jail Works in Covington.

Mr. Teipel was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific.

He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Lakeside Park where he was an assistant Sunday school superintendent, a greeter and usher and church treasurer. He also served on the church building committee.

"He was a very hard worker and very ambitious, " said Mr. Teipel's wife of 56 years, Juanita Clinkenbeard Teipel.

"He went into the Navy after he graduated from Dixie Heights High School and after the service studied engineering at the University of Cincinnati on the GI bill.

"He was very outgoing and very compassionate. He liked to do things for other people. Everybody liked him."

Mr. Teipel enjoyed managing Little League baseball teams and loved traveling with his family to Japan, Hawaii and other sites.

Other survivors include sons, Dr. Bruce Teipel of Lake Villa, Ill., and retired U.S. Navy Commander Mark Teipel; a daughter, Dr. Karen Teipel Waters of Cincinnati; a brother, Paul Teipel of Fort Wright; a sister, Betty Moore of Cincinnati; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Teipel bequeathed his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Memorials are suggested to Leo Teipel Scholarship Fund, Immanuel United Methodist Church, 2551 Dixie Highway, Lakeside Park, Ky. 41017 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Gene Edward Armstrong, 70, of Florence, died at 4:08 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired accountant with Schlumberg Industries and H&R Block, and a member of First Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg, Ind., Masonic Lodge No. 949 F&AM in Florence, Indra Consistory Scottish Rite, Valley of Covington, Order of the Easter Star No. 559 in Florence and National Accounting Association. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Johnson Armstrong; daughters, Susan M. Armstrong of Yorktown, Ind., Joanne E. Bousman of Muncie, Ind., Teresa K. Sanders of Independence and Karen J. Armstrong of Lexington; a brother, Dewayne Armstrong of Muncie; five grandchildren and a step-granddaughter.

Services will be at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, and at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Meeks Mortuary in Muncie. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, with 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Meeks Mortuary. Eastern Star and Masonic services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219; or Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

Mary Bruce "Brucie" Boyle, 52, of Nicholasville, formerly of Fort Mitchell, died Sunday at her home. She was a warehouse manager and administrator with N. O. Nelson/WINelson, Lexington, and was a founding board member and volunteer with the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center. She was a volunteer with Moveable Feast and Hope Center.

Survivors include brothers, Tim Boyle and Jeff Boyle; life partner, Susan Sliger; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Nicholasville. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to Moveable Feast, 472 Rose St., Lexington, Ky. 40508; Homes for Greyhounds, 688 Walker Park Road, Richmond, Ky. 40475; or Rape Crisis Center, P. O. Box 1603, Lexington, Ky. 40508. Milward Funeral Home, Lexington, is handling arrangements.

Mildred Brown, 83, of Painesville, Ohio, formerly of Edgewood, died Friday in Chardon, Ohio. She was a retired office manager with CNA in Cleveland, and a member of Latonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lester Brown; a son, David Brown of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; a daughter, Judith A. Reese of Painesville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at noon. Burial will be in Bullitsburg Cemetery.

Opal E. Cox, 90, of Maysville, died at 10:35 p.m. Friday at Maysville Extended Care Center. She was a member of Highland Christian Church and Mason County Homemakers.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Fultz of Maysville; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Highland Christian Church or School, 4037 Ky. 10, Maysville, Ky. 41056; or Hospice of Hope, 1 W. McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Lois Lee Crawford, 72, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker and a member of Locust Pike Free Pentecostal Church, Covington.

Survivors include her husband, Nelson Crawford; daughters, Janell Crawford and Tammy Vance, both of Florence; a son, Bert Crawford of Independence; sisters, Betty Nixon and Virginia Morris, both of Covington; a brother, Edwin "Boy" Daugherty of Covington; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Jean Cross, 85, of Bromley, died Sunday at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Lou Mullins Downs, 89, of Gallatin County, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday at Woodcrest Manor Care Center, Elsmere.

Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.

Sylvia Edmondson, 51, of Hebron, Sunday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Bonnie J. Fisher, 70, of Independence, died at 6:35 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hos pice Unit, Covington.

She was a retired book keeper with J. C. Noyes Co., Covington, and manager with JD's Food Mart, Taylor Mill. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Latonia, was a past matron of Rosebud Chapter No. 39 Order of the Eastern Star, and a past worth high priestess of Covington Council No. 10 White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Survivors include her husband, Milton W. Fisher; sons, Eugene Hughes of Independence and Byron Donnelly of Covington; daughters, Donna Gayle Thomas of Crittenden and Linda Sandy of Edgewood; a stepson, Mark A. Fisher of Oklahoma City; step daughters, Sherry Jean Grime of Taylor Mill, Vickie Pennington of Owenton and Cindy Petta of Moreno Valley, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Order of the East ern Star services at 6 p.m. and White Shrine services at 6:15 p.m. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Owenton Ceme tery. Mary Katherine Gosney, 99, of Newport, died Friday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a clerk with Pogue's Department Stores. Her husband, Chester A. Gosney, died in 1973.

Survivors include nieces, Janes Reusch of Fort Thomas and Shirley Webster of Indian Wells, Calif.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Ceme tery Chapel, Southgate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. John United Church of Christ, Park Avenue and Nelson Place, Newport, Ky. 41071. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrange ments.

Verna G. Horn, 89, of Edgewood, died at 7 a.m. Saturday at her home. She was a clerk with Honeywell Co. in St. Lou is. Her husband, Leslie Horn, died in 1991. A son, Jack Horn, died in 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Leslie H. Worcester of Edgewood; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was this morning at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Burial will be in St. Louis. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

David Lee Kyle, 53, of Carrollton, died Friday at he home. He was a truck driver and a member of Carrollton First Baptist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 41 in Carrollton, Sons of Foreign Wars and was a Little League baseball coach.

Survivors include his wife, Mable Collins Kyle; daughters, Wanda Begley of Crothersville, Ind., and Andria E. Kyle of Milton; sons, Jason Kyle of Stanford, Donald Stevens of Austin, Ind., and Dustin Kyle of Milton; his mother, Lula Mae Kyle of Worthville; a sister, Connie Kyle of Florence; and five grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Joan L. Leininger, 74, of Crestview Hills, died at 6:59 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Howard "Pat" Leininger; sons, Michael Leininger of Midlothian, Va., Mark Leininger of Fort Wright and Martin Leininger of Edgewood; a daughter, Michelle Von Hoene of Edgewood; sisters, Mildred Rottinghaus and Delores Rottinghaus, both of Fort Wright, Laverne Wedderstrand of Taylor Mill and Margie Rymarquis of Villa Hills; and 10 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Marvin Ray Louden, 58, of Burlington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

He was a sales and serviceman with Ferrell Gas Co. in Hebron, attended Woodhaven Baptist Church in Burlington and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Louden; a daughter, Victoria Rae Louden of Burlington; stepsons, Herbert Ligon of White Oak, Ohio, and J. R. Ligon of Burlington; sisters, Patricia Howell of Burlington, Linda Holt and Bonnie Kelly, both of Petersburg; and a brother, Jack Louden of Petersburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery.

David F. Marksberry, 59, of Latonia, died at 4:09 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired mechanic and former manager of Softball City, a member of Disabled American Veterans and Moose Lodge No. 1469, Taylor Mill, and was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mable "Lou" Marksberry; a son, Randy Marksberry of Covington; daughters, Shari Mitchell of Burlington and Mandy Marksberry of Latonia; a brother, Earl Marksberry of Holly Hills, Fla.; a sister, Patricia McGeorge of Louisville; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richwood Cemetery.

Margaret Peg Millay, 63, of Florence, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Timothy Church, Union.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Millay; sons, Robert Millay Jr. and Scott Millay, both of Covington; daughters, Karen Faust of Union, Terry Swikert of New Orleans, Patty Mueller of Independence, Pam Millay and Shelly Millay, both of Florence, and Christy Norris of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Patrick Taney of Covington, Denny Taney of Florence and Michael Taney of Mason, Ohio; a sister, Kathy Lord of Cincinnati; and 14 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Timothy Church. Visita tion will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Timothy Church, 10271 High way 42, Union, Ky. 41091; or in the form of Masses.

Charles J. Moore, 75, of Warsaw, died Saturday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. He was a retired nursery worker and a member of Church of Christ, Glencoe. His wife, Justine Moore, died in 1976. There are no immediate survivors.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Carlton-Lowder Fu neral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at noon. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Glencoe.

Gary Lee Moore, 49, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.

Mary Gertrude Porter, 101, of Maysville, died at 12:25 p.m. Friday at Maysville Extended Care Center. She was a domestic worker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Maysville. Her husband, Robert Porter, died in 1978.

Survivors include a niece and two nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, Maysville.

Robert Vernon Profitt Sr., 62, of Batavia, Ohio, died Friday at Mercy Anderson Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a pastor for New Jerusalem Church of God of Christ, Cincinnati, a mechanic for Jim Beam Co., Cincinnati, and a past president of the distillers union.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Profitt; sons, John Profitt and Robbie Profitt, both of Cincinnati; daughters, Susan Spence of Charleston, S.C., and Vicki Spires of Cincinnati; brothers, Ralph Profitt of Brookville, Ind., and Maynard Stamper of Fort Mitchell; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Peach Grove Cemetery, Peach Grove.

Lewis Ginn Reed, 72, of Erlanger, died at 9:09 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

He was owner of Reed's TV and Ideal Service, a member of Point Pleasant Church of Christ and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Covington Elks and Sunday Morning Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Reed; sons, Christopher Allen Reed of Fort Wright and David Lewis Reed of Indianapolis; brothers, James Reed of Frankfort and John Reed of Covington; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Elsie K. Remley, 99, of Lexington, formerly of Fort Thomas, died at 3:55 p.m. Friday at Darby Square Nursing Home, Lexington. She was a retired office worker and a member of Fort Thomas Women's Club and St. Paul United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas. Her husband, Albert Charles Remley, died in 1976.

Survivors include a son, Albert Remley of Lexington; a sister, Edna Yung Phillips of Fort Thomas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ, 1 Churchill Drive, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Alberta Robinson, 82, of Burlington, died Saturday at her home.

Norma L. Scroggins, 67, of Latonia, died Thursday at her home.

She was a retired factory worker with Gibson Greeting Card Co. and a member of Latonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, James R. Scroggins of Independence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Latonia Baptist Church, 3800 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015.

Cecil Sebastian, 60, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Friday at Fort Hamilton Hospital, Hamilton. He was a lead man with Reliable Castings Corp., Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Akemon Sebastian; daughters, Paula Hudson and Patricia Parsley, both of Hamilton, and Pamela Searcy of Dayton; sons, Cecil Sebastian of Louisville, Herman Akemon of Latonia, Charles Sebastian of Brookville, Ind., and James Sebastian of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; brothers, Eli Sebastian of Newport and Preston Sebastian of Booneville; sisters, Ethel Bowling of Belleview and Linda Spicer of Alexandria; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Hamilton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in West Elkton, Ohio Cemetery.

Noah Patrick Westfall, 1, of Cynthiana, died Friday at his home.

Survivors include his parents, Lori Ann Westfall Hutchison of Cynthiana and Jason Matthew Kelley of Paris; sisters, Nona Paige Hutchison and Alisha Lynn Banks; grandparents, Lorna Westfall of Harison County, Ramona Wells Kelley of North Middletown and Mary Sheffield of Cynthiana; and great-grandparents, Carl and Opal Edwards of Bickmore, W.Va., Lucille Westfall of Queen Shoals, W.Va., and Dorothy Wells of Bourbon County.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

Katherine "Liz" Zabinski, 50, of Covington, died Wednesday at her home.

She was a chiropractor with Holistic Chiropractic Center, Cincinnati.

Survivors include sisters, Karen E. Zabinski of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., and Mary E. Zabinski of West Haven, Conn.; brothers, Michael J. Zabinski of Aurora, Colo., Robert C. Zabinski of League, Texas, and Charles V. Zabinski of Garden Grove, Calif.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Waggin Tails Canine Center, Wilder. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Paws with a Cause, 4646 S. Division St., Wayland, Mich. 49348.
