Ralph Bosse, retired Covington police chief
Ralph A. Bosse devoted himself to serving Covington from the day he joined the police department as a foot patrol officer until he retired as chief 30 years later.
The lifelong Northern Kentucky resident also contributed to the community by coaching youth sports teams and volunteering at Campbell Lodge Boys Home in Cold Spring.
Mr. Bosse, 83, of Fort Mitchell, died at 6:13 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Emma M. Stuntebeck Bosse, died in 1995.
His daughter Peggy Bosse of Park Hills, Ky., remembered her father as a person who served others.
"He was very involved in all our activities when we grew up. He helped coach and manage the ball teams, and he was always very active in his church, " she said.
Mr. Bosse inspired his younger brother, Al Bosse of Covington, to follow in his footsteps and become a police officer. Al eventually became Covington police chief like his older brother, retiring in October.
"He was very proud of the fact that Al followed in his footsteps over there, " Peggy Bosse said.
Mr. Bosse played softball in his younger years and became an avid golfer later in life, his daughter said.
But during his career, police work stood above all else.
"That was pretty much his whole life, " she said.
Other survivors include his son, Ralph A. Bosse Jr. of Alexandria; daughters, Judy Joyce of Fort Wright, Mary Lou Sparks of Union and Karen Fletcher of Elsmere; another brother, Tom Bosse of Edgewood; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christina burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Monday at Mother of God Church, Covington.
There will be no visitation.. Entombment will be in St. Mary cemetery Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Campbell Lodge Boys Home, 150 Skyline Drive, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076; or in the form of Masses.
Edward Cecil Black, 84, of Crescent Springs, died Thursday at his home.
He was a machinist for Norfolk Naval Shipyard, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Florence. His wife, Marjorie Black, died in 1999.
Survivors include daughters, Helen DeMatteo of Crescent Springs and Frances Fitzwater of Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Margaret Black Graves of Baltimore, Md.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the funeral home .
Dorothy Mae Brooks, 57, of Dayton, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Herbert Brooks Sr., died in 1982.
Survivors include daughters, Cathy Brooks of Riverside, Calif., and Donna Ciggler of San Antonio, Texas; sons, Robert Brooks of Williamsburg, Ohio, Herbert Brooks Jr. of Independence and Larry Lawson of Florence; mother, Dorothy Miller of Bellevue; a sister, Geraldine Lawson of California; brothers, Gregory Miller of Fort Myers, Fla., and Eugene Miller and Howard Miller, both of Bellevue; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Irvin M. Burns, 74, of Alexandria, died Thursday at University Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a retired regional sales manager for Prairie Farms Dairy, Ice Cream Division, Decatur, Ill., and a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Alexandria.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Burns of Alexandria; daughters, Lisa Burns of Cold Spring and Susan Cason and Lynn Chilelli, both of Alexandria; a brother, Alfred Burns of California; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Alexandria Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. John Foran Jr., 78, of Bellevue, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a banker with Provident Bank, a member of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue, Bishop Mulloy Council Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society and St. Vincent de Paul Society and a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Foran of Bellevue; a son, Joe Foran of Crestview Hills; a daughter, Mary Graziani of Lakeside Park; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Marsha C. Hartman, 42, of Walton, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a cashier for Old Tyme Pottery and a former EMT for the City of Erlanger, and a member of Verona Full Gospel Church of God.
Survivors include daughters, Katherine A. Hartman of Covington and Lisa M. Hartman and Christina L. Hartman, both of Erlanger; her mother, Rosie Catherine Wilson of Walton; sisters, Glenda L. Stevens of Sevierville, Tenn., N. Jeanette Neu of Latonia and Nancy A. Woodall of Bath, Ind.; and a grandson.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the funeral home. Ruth Hayden, 86, of Crittenden, formerly of Corinth, died Thursday at Owenton Manor, Owenton. She was a retired self-employed produce broker and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Dry Ridge. Her husband, George W. Hayden, died in 1983.
Survivors include two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge .
Michael H. Horn Sr., 65, of West Covington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a plasterer with Plasterer Union Local No. 1, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Hiles Horn of West Covington; sons, Michael J. Horn Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and David Horn of Union; daughters, Cherri Noel and Dianne Wagner, both of Florence; brothers, John Horn of Covington and Joseph Allgeyer of Florence; sisters, Mary Sexton of Hamilton, Ohio, Margaret Kresser of Independence and Dolores Meyer of Taylor; and nine grandchildren.

Peter K. Korsgaard Sr., 81, of Winchester, died at 7:10 a.m. Friday at Winchester Centre for Health and Rehabilitation. He was a retired Prudential Insurance Company agent, a former member of the Civitan Club, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Central Baptist Church, Winchester.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Naomi Korsgaard of Winchester; sons, Danny Charles Korsgaard of Elizabethtown and Peter K. Korsgaard and Kevin D. Korsgaard, both of Winchester; daughters, Gerry White, of Marysville, Wash., and Patricia Depue of Taylor Mill; brothers, Rudy Korsgaard of Hudson, Ohio, and Walter Korsgaard of Strongsville, Ohio; sisters, Anne Sullivan of Brooksville, Fla., and Irene Brown of Sanford, Fla.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Scobee Funeral Home, Winchester. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Boonesboro Cemetery, Clark County.
James H. Krejckant, 55, of Erlanger, died at 9:22 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was the owner/operator of Some Assembly Required, Erlanger, a Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Park Hills.
Survivors include his wife, Alesia Marline Krejckant of Erlanger; a son, James H. Krejckant of Erlanger; daughters, Tiffany A. Bosley of Indianapolis, Ind., and K-Sondra Krejckant of Erlanger; mother, Estelle Krejckant of Barstow, Calif.; and brothers, Gene Krejckant of California and Bob Krejckant of Chicago, Ill.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. John H. Locke Sr., 73, of Verona, died Friday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. He was a self-employed carpet layer, a veteran of the Navy and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Verona. His wife, Angie Saco Locke, died in 2001.
Survivors include a son, John H. Locke Jr. of Crittenden; a brother, William D. Locke of Walton; a sister, Flossie Stamper of Latonia; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.
Chester Oren Mathis, 90, of Owenton, died Wednesday, at New Horizon Medical Center, Owenton. He was a carpenter, farmer and clock repairman. His wife, Alma Nipper Mathis, died in 1993.
Survivors include his sons, James Richard Mathis of Rhode Island and Harry A. Mathis of Indianapolis; a daughter, Judith Kathleen Hill of Edinburgh, Ind.; a sister, Mae Dion of Holiday, Fla.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family . Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton.

Dorothy S. Miller, 100, of Fort Wayne, Ind., died Thursday at the Cedars of Leo, Fort Wayne. She was a former office worker for Booth Hospital, Covington, and a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Covington. Her husband, Eugene C. Miller, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Partee-Woods of Fort Wayne; three granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Doris B. Smith, 82, of Owenton, died Friday at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Squiresville Baptist Church. Her husband, Arlen Ted Smith, died in 1994 and a son, Stanley Gene Smith, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Robert Jay Smith of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, Leonard Collins of Tennessee; sisters, Mary Shaw of Alexandria and Lula Breeding of Hazard; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.
David Lee Talbert Sr., 53, of Independence, died Thursday at VA Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was a member of Community Bible and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Tarpel Talbert of Independence; daughters, Julie Teal of Bark River, Mich., and Jessica Talbert of Independence; sons, Jay Woods of Burlington, David Lee Talbert Jr. of Hebron and Ben Talbert of Independence; mother, Beaulah Talbert of Covington; sisters, Robbie Gilliam of Independence and Gayle Ripberger of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
