Milton 'Buck' Valentine, sheriff, city councilman, store owner
Milton "Buck" Valentine of Williamstown, a former Grant County sheriff, deputy and City Council member, died Sunday at Grant Manor Health Care Center. He was 86.
Mr. Valentine also owned and operated Valentine's 5-Cent, 10-Cent and Dollar Store in Williamstown from 1955 to 1975. His wife, Inez Ransdell Valentine, operated an attached beauty salon.
He served on the Williamstown City Council during the 1950s, and in the 1970s became deputy sheriff. He served as Grant County Sheriff from 1977 to 1982.
Mr. Valentine enjoyed collecting and repairing antique clocks, and was a member of the National Clock Association. He also enjoyed woodworking and refinishing furniture.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the National Wildlife Federation, League of Kentucky Sportsmen and Grant County Sportsmen's Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Samantha Colson of Dry Ridge.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. William's Catholic Church, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown. Memorials are suggested to the St. William's Church Capital Campaign, 8 Church St., Williamstown, Ky. 41097.
Cherri Beiting, nurse, city councilwoman
Cherri Siry Beiting is remembered as a dedicated wife and mother, and a tireless worker for the people of Alexandria.
Ms. Beiting, 54, of Alexandria, a former member of the Alexandria City Council, died Monday at her home.
She was a registered nurse for St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood, and a member of St. Mary's Church, Alexandria.
Ray Hildebrand, a former mayor of Alexandria, said Mrs. Beiting was a dedicated worker.
"Cherri was dedicated in what she thought. She worked really hard to express her opinions and would have done what she thought needed to be done, " said Hildebrand, who worked with Mrs. Beiting for two years.
Her husband, Andrew, said: "She was just a great wife and mother, and a very good provider."
Other survivors include daughters, Virginia Beiting and Amanda Beiting, both of Alexandria; a son, Jake Beiting of Alexandria; a sister, Diane Fries of California; and a brother, Bruce Siry of California.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Raymond Abbott, 92, of Latonia, died Monday at The Palms in Sebring, Fla.
Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.
Ida Mae Bell, 88, of Covington, died Sunday at a hospice.
Survivors include nieces, Mevillian Evans and Olgan Evans, both of Covington; and a nephew, Ingguls Evans Jr. of Covington.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Lorin Kayla Bennett, infant daughter of Rusty Bennett and Lori Adams Bennett of Sanders, died Thursday at Norton Suburban Hospital, Louisville.
Other survivors include a brother, Nathaniel Michael Bennett of Sanders; sisters, Natalie Michal Bennett and Lorinda Kayle Bennett, both of Sanders; grandparents, Bob and Linda Adams of Sanders, and Dennie Bennett of Carrollton; and great-grandmothers, Lutie Tharp and Luetta Leep, both of Carrollton.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Worthville Cemetery. Tandy- Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton, is handling arrangements.
William Faulkner Botts, 66, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise Botts; sons, William Botts Jr. of Georgetown and Michael Botts of Independence; a daughter, Jacqueline Crawley of Cincinnati; a stepdaughter, Tanya Bott of Independence; brothers, Herbert Botts of Mount Sterling, John Botts of Owingsville and Paul Botts of Elsmere; sisters, Lillian Toler of Dayton, Irene Baker and Mattie Ralls, both of Mount Sterling, and Marie Jones of Elsmere; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Erlanger. Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Robert J. Cayze, 89, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired boilermaker with Sohio Refinery in Toledo, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Cayze; sons, Robert F. Cayze of Independence and Gary Cayze of Florence; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ruby Thomas Doan, 84, of Berry, died Monday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.

Buford W. Hale, 75, of Ghent, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired employee of Overhead Door Co. and a member of Sixth Ward Social Club, West Covington Boosters, Blue Chip Social Club and Democratic Club. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. A son, Dwayne Hale, died in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hale; sons, Gunnery Sgt. Bart Hale of Iwakunt, Japan, and Lt. Cmdr. Mark Hale of Ghent; daughters, Sandra Sebastian of Alexandria and Regina Akins of Hampden, Maine; sisters, Wilma J. Horn of Florence and Glenda L. Spade of Cincinnati; and nine grandchildren.

Wilma Harrison, 65, of Alexandria, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Loraine Mueller Hehman, 78, of Wilder, died at 7:25 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired clerical assistant with Central Trust Bank, Cincinnati, and a member of Southgate Super Seniors, St. Thomas 55 Club and Hilltoppers. A daughter, Marlene Stegeman, died in 1981.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Von Bokern of Greenville, S.C.; a son, Linus Hehman III of Fort Thomas; a sister, Thelma Daunt of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Raymond Mueller of Naples, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial was this morning at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Ms. Hehman bequeathed her body to science. Betty Hiles, 75, of Augusta, died Saturday at Meadowview Regional Hospital, Maysville. She was a homemaker and a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Women's Auxiliary and Trinity United Methodist Church, Maysville. Her husband, Henry Morgan Hiles, died in 1983. A son, Dennis Hiles, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Gerald Hiles of Helena, Mont., and Kevin Hiles of Augusta; daughters, Dalene McCann of Frankfort and Elaine Story of Augusta; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Jones, 75, of Taylor Mill, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired salesman with Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, and a bartender. He was a member of St. Anthony Church, Taylor Mill, the church golf league, the Seniors Golf League at Kenton County Golf Course, and was a founding member of Taylor Mill Boosters. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. His wife, Audrey Forsting Jones, died in 1992. Daughters, Janet Boberg and Kathy Mueller, died in 1985 and 1998, respectively, and a son, Rick Jones, died in 1980.
Survivors include sons, Guy Jones of Burlington, Gary Jones and Pat Jones, both of Taylor Mill; brothers, Bud Jones of Pensacola, Fla., and Jim Jones of Crestview Hills; a sister, Florence Borden of Medina, Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Peggy Ann McNabb, 56, of Fairfield, Ohio, died Sunday at Hospice of Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio.
She was an accounting assistant with Crown Vantage Co.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald McNabb; a son, Michael McNabb of Cincinnati; daughters, Melissa McNabb of Ludlow and Kristina Swank of Milford, Ohio; her mother, Elydia Smallwood of Ludlow; brothers, Terry Whaley of Florence, Alan Whaley of Hillsboro, Ohio, Larry Roden of Independence and Tim Smallwood and Doug Smallwood, both of Ludlow; a sister, Julia Whitehead of Ludlow; and four grandchildren.

Kathryn "Queenie" T. Peters, 86, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a bookkeeper with Peters Coal & Supply Co. and a member of First Christian Church of Fort Thomas. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Alfred Peters, preceded her in death.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Paul D. Turner, 77, of Milan, Ind., formerly of Newport, died at 11:57 a.m. Jan. 21 at Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison, Ind.
He was a member of Local 741 Laborers' Union in Bloomington, Ind., and a member of Versailles, Ind., American Legion Post No. 173 and a former district vice president with the Osgood Moose Lodge No. 629. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Dora Jean Gray Turner, died in 2001.
Survivors include sisters, Polly Cole of St. Petersburg, Fla., Rose Kammerer and Charlotte Jones, both of Newport.

Joseph Yacchari, 82, of Dayton, died Sunday at his home.
He was a plant manager with Highway Trailer, Cincinnati, and a member of the Wright Patterson Officers Club and an Army veteran of World War II.
