Amelia Saccone, 76, spoiled husband, grandkids with love
Amelia Saccone didn't wait to become a grandmother to start spoiling people.
"She was such a sweet person, she spoiled everybody - even her husband, " said her daughter-in-law, Vickie Saccone. "She was a wonderful mother-in-law and a wonderful grandmother who loved her family."
Mrs. Saccone, 76, of Dayton, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence, after suffering a stroke Dec. 6.
"She was the one who held everybody together, " Vickie Saccone said.
She grew up two doors away from her future husband, Sabatine "Sam" Saccone, in Newport. The two were inseparable from the age of 13, her daughter-in-law said, and were married
for 57 years.
Mrs. Saccone was a retired clerk with AT&T;, where she worked for more than 20 years, and was a graduate of Newport High School. In her retirement, she enjoyed cooking and playing bingo at St. Bernard Church of Dayton.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Rocke Saccone of Crestview and Terry Saccone of Cold Spring; two brothers, Normal Daniel of Newport and James Daniel of Kissimmee, Fla.; two sisters, Alice Spaulding of Tipton, Ind., and Jean Botel of Fort Thomas; and three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, 822 York St., Newport. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.
Howard E. Cummins, 84, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a jet engine builder with General Electric, a member of Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662 in Newport and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Janet Cummins, and a son, Gregory Cummins, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Edward Cummins of Westerville, Ohio; a sister, Marjorie Jacobs of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Stanley Woodrow Gifford, 80, of Mount Olivet, died Thursday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer, a former deacon with New Corinth Church of Christ and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Doris Fryman Gifford; sons, Steve Gifford of Ashland and Bradley Gifford of Robertson County; brothers, Glen Gifford of Robertson County and Don Gifford of Maysville; sisters, Irene Wheeler of St. Augustine, Fla., Geneva Rigg of Maysville and Erma Dean Sword of Carlisle; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Corinth Cemetery, Mount Olivet. Memorials are suggested to New Corinth Church, Mount Olivet, Ky. 41064; or the charity of the donor's choice.
Mary L. Jeffers, 90, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a secretary with H. C. Spinks Clay Co., a member of Order of the Eastern Star Gertrude Chapter, and a member of the USO during World War II. Her husband, Gerald Jeffers, died in 1974.
Survivors include nieces, Carol Jones of Ocala, Fla., and Janet Fussner of Moscow, Ohio.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Cathy Faye Leger Johnson, 51, of Independence, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her hus band, Billy Joe Johnson; a daughter, Ronda Gale Johnson of Independence; a son, Roger Dale Johnson of Walton; a sister, Reva Patterson of Walton; a brother, Bryon Leger of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Edward Barrie Joslyn, 70, of Edgewood, died Thursday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a supervisor with Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Cincinnati Bell Pioneers Retirement Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Bari Joslyn of Fort Mitchell; sons, Christopher Joslyn of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Nicholas Joslyn of Cottonwood, Ariz.; stepdaughters, Michelle McKee and Tammy Stempfley; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Carl Prentice King, 70, of Highland Heights, died Friday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. His wife, Wilma King, died in 1989.
Survivors include sisters, Joyce Jones of Foster and Alma Conrad of Dry Ridge.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County. Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, is handling arrangements.
Doris Henderson Kreiling, 93, of Newport, died Wednesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a secretary with Central Trust Bank and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Thomas. She was also a member of the Cincinnati chapter of the American Institute of Banking.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.
Cathy Diane Massey, 42, of Newport, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, John Massey; daughters, Rebecca Freeman and Sarah Freeman, both of Paducah; her mother, Donna McKendree of Paducah; and brothers, Barry McKendree of Hardin and Mark McKendree of Calvert City.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Cremation will be at Fares J. Radel Crematory, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Ruth Jo Scott, 72, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Walter Scott, died in 1997.
Survivors include sons, Steven Scott of Wilder and Mark Scott of Fort Thomas; daughters, Bobbie Jo Scott of Fort Thomas, Jacqueline Freeman of Wilder, Robbin Moore and Suzanne Scott, both of Alexandria; sisters, Patricia Musk of Highland Heights and Barbara Moniack of Winter Park, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Leslie J. Tucker, 80, of Crescent Springs, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Elmer A. Ward, 81, of Mount Olivet, died Thursday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer, a member of Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church and an Air Force veteran. A son, Jerry A. Ward, preceded him in death.
Survivors include brothers, Everett Allen Ward of Lexington and J. C. Ward of Wilmington, Ohio; and a sister, Mae Walton of Robertson County.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
