Through 60 years of religious vocation, decades of teaching and numerous courageous acts like marching for racial justice with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Sister Mary Ann acted on her Christian ideals throughout her life.

Born Dorothy M. Hill in Carrollton, Sister Mary Ann, SND, celebrated her 60th anniversary as a Sister of Notre Dame on Aug. 16.
Her vocation brought her great satisfaction, and her work touched thousands of lives, said her brother, Alfred Hill of Carrollton.
"She had nothing but friends. She was brought up in a good family, and she was dedicated to what she believed in, " he said.
Sister Mary Ann, 79, of Park Hills, died at 9:25 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.
For 46 years, Sister Mary Ann served in the dioceses of Covington, Lexington, Birmingham, Ala., and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati as a teacher, administrator and librarian.
She continued tutoring students throughout her retirement.
Sister Mary Ann served at a Catholic mission in Birmingham, Ala., in the early 1960s.
She became involved in the civil rights movement, marching with Rev. King on Selma, her family said.
"She was just such a warm person and so loving, " said Jo Hill, her sister-in-law in Carrollton. "She loved everyone. The color of your skin made no difference."
She helped make the Birmingham mission self-sufficient before returning to Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati to teach.
The fruit of her labor came in hugs and well wishes from former students whenever she attended church festivals or other public events, Mrs. Hill said.
"People from every place she ever taught would talk to her all the time, " she said.
Sister Mary Ann's brother said family was equally important to his sister.
"We'd go up (to Cincinnati and Covington) and take the kids when we were younger, and we had the old home movies with our mother, " Alfred Hill said. "She'd get the biggest kick out of it. Little things meant so much to her."
Sister Mary Ann is also survived by another brother, Wilbert Hill of Carrollton.
