Mary Dolores Pieschel, 88, loved to iron people's clothes
Mary Dolores Pieschel loved to iron.
"It's a strange hobby but she loved it. She loved ironing clothes - she would iron clothes for anybody. She loved to iron like no one I've ever seen, " said her son, Walter Pieschel Jr., of Walton.
Mrs. Pieschel, 88, the widow of a prominent Northern Kentucky business leader, died Saturday at 11:21 a.m. at St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright, from complications due to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
She was the widow of Walter L. Pieschel, the first president of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the board at the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and a member of the board of overseers at Thomas More College. Mr. Pieschel died in 1977.
Mrs. Pieschel, who formerly lived in Ludlow, was primarily a homemaker, but for many years helped keep the books for Schrage's Hardware and Gift Shop, a Ludlow business owned by her sister, Marcella Schrage of Fort Wright.
"She was good with numbers and always said she would have liked to have been an accountant, " said her son. "But, in those years, the husband was the primary breadwinner . . . plus she had her hands full raising five sons."
A devout Catholic, Mrs. Pieschel attended Mass every day as long as she could at St. James in Ludlow, now St. Boniface and James Church, said her son. More recently, she had been a member of St. Pius X in Edgewood.
She is also survived by four other sons: Paul Pieschel of Springboro, Ohio, Jerome Pieschel of Cincinnati, and Richard and Daniel Pieschel, both of Edgewood; sisters, Marcella Schrage of Fort Wright and Virginia Cleary of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Bernard "Bud" Schrage of Erlanger and James Schrage of Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Care Center Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Care Center. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Bonnie Sue Hicks Carter, 56, of Carrollton, died Monday at her home in Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Community Church, Carrollton.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil Carter; sons, James Warren Mattingly, Chris Mattingly, Reuben Mattingly, Charles Joseph Carter, Jacob Carter, Jason Carter and George Rodney Carter, all of Carrollton; daughters, Angela Shields of Ghent, Elenor Carrado, Elizabeth Overstreet, Rebecca Carter, Patricia Carter and Rechel Carter, all of Carrollton; stepsons, Paul E. Edwards of Madison, Ind., and Cecil Carter Jr. of Dallas; stepdaughters, Sally Carter and Wanda Copeland, both of Madison, Ind.; brothers, Raymond Hicks, Hack Hicks and Richard Hicks, all of Carrollton, and Bennie Hicks of Owenton; sisters, Elizabeth Martin of Paris Crossing, Ind., and Sharon Riley of Carrollton; and 24 grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Margaret L. Wilhoite Cloyd, 65, of Owenton, died Sunday at New Horizon Medical Center in Owenton.
She was a retired state Department of Transportation worker.
Survivors include a daughter, Robin Renae Cloyd of Owenton; and brothers, Willis Wilhoite of Owenton and Charlie Wilhoite of Georgetown.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Monterey Cemetery, Owenton, Ky. 40359.
Doris Ernst, 94, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Harrison County Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.
She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Mills Christian Church, Berry. Her husband, James Ernst, and a son, Carl T. Ernst, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Marilyn Perkins of Berry, Jean Boggs of Taylor Mill and Maxine Bonar of Walton; 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and five great-great- grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Antioch Mills Christian Church. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Lenoxburg Cemetery, Bracken County. Memorials are suggested to Antioch Mills Christian Church, 12785 U.S. 27 North, Berry, Ky. 41003.
Ricky S. Griffis, 48, of Erlanger, died Monday at his home. He was the retired owner of Rick's Market, Elsmere.
Survivors include a son, Ricky A. Griffis of Monticello; a daughter, Angela Griffis of Monticello; his mother, Sylvia Griffis of Erlanger; brothers, Ward Lee Griffis of Loveland, Ohio, and Paul D. Griffis of Goshen, Ohio; sisters, Billie Jean Kinser of Edgewood, Sue Johnson of Mount Juliet, Tenn., Peggy Ann Drohan and Judie Gaston, both of Erlanger, Mary E. Sims of Lenior, N.C., and Rebecca Crabtree of Monticello.

Rita Schweitzer Harris, 80, of Cold Spring, died at midnight Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was a homemaker and a member of Southgate Senior Citizens and Corpus Christi Church, Newport.
Survivors include her husband, Russell Harris; sons, John Schweitzer of Erlanger, Joseph Schweitzer of Taylor Mill and Barry Schweitzer of Highland Heights; a daughter, Nancy Barnett of Elsmere; stepsons, Garry Harris of Cincinnati, Timothy Harris of Hebron and Mike Harris of Loveland, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Cox of Florence; a sister, Mary McClanahan of Bradenton, Fla.; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John Hunt, 78, of Crescent Springs, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of St. Boniface and Janes Church, Ludlow.
Survivors include his sons, Edward Hunt Sr. of Taylor Mill and Dennis Hunt II and John Hunt Jr., both of Crescent Springs; sisters, Eileen Brennan of Sligo, Ireland, Kathleen Lawless of Leadsfor, England, and Rita Crowe of Longford, Ireland; and 10 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface and James Church. Cremation will be in Southwest Ohio Crematory.

Etta Meade Terry Kitsch, 64, of Crittenden, died Thursday at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Jerome Lee Kitsch; a son, William Terry III; a daughter, Cindy Galbreath; a stepson, Jerry J. Kitsch; a stepdaughter, Jeanne Campee; brothers, Muncie Meade Jr., Earl Eugene Meade, Eddie Meade, Randy Meade and Ned Meade; sisters, Barbara Meade Nolan, Mary Meade Waukechon, Louise Meade King, Ogie Meade Slone, Debra Meade Slone, Sonja Meade Holbrook, Janet Meade and MeloDee Meade Spink; a granddaughter and four step-grandchildren.

Lillian Marcum, 47, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil Marcum; sons, Benny Ray Saylor, Delbert Saylor and Cecil Wayne Marcum, all of Covington; brothers, James Mills, Delbert Mills and General Mills, all of Manchester; and a sister, Claudia Spangler of Manchester.
Services were Monday at Britton Funeral Home, Manchester. Burial was in Marcum Cemetery, Manchester.
Ruby Bell Mitchelltree, 80, of Cincinnati, died Sunday at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Ralph Mitchelltree, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Betty Moore of Cynthiana; her stepmother, Beulah Mae Bell of Williamstown; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday.
William Rauh, 78, of Hebron, died at 6:25 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired manager with Cincinnati Bell Telephone, and a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park, Golden Rule Masonic Lodge and Pioneer Club of Cincinnati Bell. He also was a Navy veteran of World War II. A son, Jim Rauh, died in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Toms Rauh; a son, Allen Rauh of Union; and four grandchildren.

Raymond Lee Stevens Jr., 56, of Cold Spring, died Sunday at his home.
He was a truck driver for Kuhnle Bros. Trucking, New- berry, Ohio, an Army Recruiter for the city of Newport, and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Liles Stevens of Cold Spring; sons, Charles Liles Jr. of Cincinnati and Raymond Scott Stevens of Jessup, Ga.; daughters, Vicky Liles of Louisville, Judy Romans of Middletown, Ohio, Alicia Stevens of Cold Spring and Crystal Clark of Livermore; father, Raymond Stevens Sr. of Ohio County; a sister, Mary Scott of Ohio County; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
