Mary Ann Wind, 'had innate need to care for people'
With a husband, seven children and six brothers and sisters, Mary Ann Berling Wind had plenty of people to care for.
But apparently not enough.
The Latonia woman not only pursued a career in nursing, but also served as a minister and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul and Be Concerned.
"She had an innate need to care for people, " said her granddaughter, Angie Yockie. "It was who she was and what she did. She was like a whirlwind of surprises and gifts and stories."
And when Mrs. Wind, a certified nurse's assistant at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for more than 35 years, became a patient at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit herself, the staff took extra special care of her, said her sister, Margaret Shepherd of Florence.
She died there Thursday of natural causes, Mrs. Shepherd said, at age 69.
