Roy Wilson, butcher, 87, co-owned market
Roy Wilson, longtime butcher and former owner of Koenig & Wilson Market in Erlanger, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit in Covington. He was 87.
Mr. Wilson, of Erlanger, started working at Koenig Market when he was 16 and learned the meat cutting trade on the job, the same way he learned to cook, said his wife, Mary Wilson. "He alwa ys said, when you have six children, you learn to cook, " she said.
Roy Wilson was a master in the kitchen. "He did Christmas dinner, Thanksgiving dinner. There isn't anything he couldn't fix, " said Mrs. Wilson. "He made the best pies in the world. He made biscuits and corn bread and bean soup. Pot roasts and pork roasts."
Shoppers would stand in line to have Roy wait on them, she said.
"Young brides would come in who didn't know how to cook. He'd tell them how they could f ix different cuts of meat. People would always come up to him and say, 'You taught me how to cook .' " she said.
He bought the market in the 1970s and later sold it back to the Koenig family after he had heart surgery around 1975. After he recovered, he returned to work behind the counter.
After Mr. Wilson's first wife, Martha Ficke Wilson, died in 1970, he later married
Mary. " I had four children. He had six. We made a big blended family, " she said. "And he loved every on e of the children and they loved him.
"He was a true gentleman. He was very kind-hearted."
He enjoyed gardening, painting and working with wood. He made sleigh and reindeer figures for everyone in the family, Mrs. Wilson said.
He retired in 1984, and he and his wife moved to Florida until 1998, when they returned to Erlanger.
He was diagnosed with leukemia and also developed other health problems.
He was a member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere.
A daughter, Mary Wilson Sampsell, preceded him in death.
Survivors in addition to his wife include sons, David Wilson of Dunellon, Fla., William Wilson of Florence and Richard Wilson of Hebron; daughters, Carol Haven of Petersburg and Darlene Moon of Miami, Fla.; stepsons, William Mullins of Richmond and George Loze of Somerset; stepdaughters, Karen Kelly of Hebron and Susan Pittman of Verona; a brother, Robert Wilson of Deltona, Fla.; 22 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. There will be a reception in the undercroft of the church following the burial.

Virginia Desmond, 89, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Catherine Mothers Club, Siena Seniors, the board of directors at Desmond Bros., Inc., a founding member of Cincinnati Marlins Swim Club, and form er lifeguard with the YWCA. Her husband, Patrick P. Desmond, and a son, Timothy D. Desmond, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Dr. Patrick P. Desmond of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Dennis P. Desmond, Kevin T. Desmond and W. Michael Desmond, all of Fort Thomas; daughters, Sally Desmond of Fort Thomas and Sharon Fausel of Portland, Ore.; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 10901 Reed Hartman Highway, Blue Ash, Ohio 45242.
Adam Clifton Harvey, 21, of Elsmere, was found dead Monday in Foster. He was an electrician with Arc Electric and Air Conditioning and Heating, Wilder, a member of Runyan Memorial Christian Church, Covington, and a student at Northern Kentucky Vocational School, Park Hills.
Survivors include his parents, Cindy and Jackie Harvey of Elsmere; a sister, Denise Harvey of Elsmere; brothers, Ben Harvey of Elsmere and Curtis Harvey of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and his paternal grandmother, Frankie Kilgore of Chattanooga.

Oliver Harrison Hunter Jr., 81, of Southgate, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a former assistant comptroller at Kroger Co., a member of Highland United Methodist Church, Fort Thomas, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Greater Cincinnati Foundation, former director and member of Highland Country Club, former member of Cincinnati Rotary Club, founder of the For t Thomas Junior Baseball League and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Hunter of Southgate; sons, Chip Hunter of Cincinnati and Dennis Hunter of Knoxville, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Highland United Methodist Church. Visitation will be fr om 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Highland United Methodist Church.
Lillie Johnson, 84, of Florence, died Friday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Noah Johnson, died in 1985, a son, William H. Johnson, died in 1992, and a daughter, Dixie Manning, died in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Verneda Steele of Florence; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 1 0 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Albert Thomas Johnting, 63, of Falmouth, died Thursday at University Hospital, Cincinnati .
He was a truck driver, a member of Teamsters Local 100 and an Army Reserve Military Police Division veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye Carolyn Cummins Johnting of Falmouth; daughters, Patti Rogers-Ruf of Neave and Debbie Thornberry and Marilyn Gilbert, both of Falmouth; brothers, Lawrence Johnting of Demossville and David Johnting of Butler; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Pendleton County. Richard D. Motz, 76, of Covington, died Thursday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

Ellen Joan Parker, 62, of Highland Heights, formerly of Newport, died Thursday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her brothers, Vernon Asbury of Tennessee and Ronnie Asbury of Maysville; and sisters, Georgia Ann Shatzer of Cold Spring, Judy Sue Denniston of Covington, Gina Mickydick of Cynthiana and Helen Gibson and June Kilburn, both of Vevay, Ind.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be in Fares J. Radel Funeral Home and Crematory, Cincinnati.
Lucille Elizabeth Hutson White, 84, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of Covington and Westwood, Ohio, died at 7 a.m. Friday at McCurdy Residential Center, Evansville. She was a retired nurse's aide for Hillebrand Care Center, Cincinnati, and a member of Westwood Baptist Church. Her husband, William Clarence White, died in 1971, and a son, William Joseph White, died in 1964.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Becker of Evansville; sisters, Mary Catherine Prescott of Erlanger and Odie Roberts of New Castle, Ind.; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery, Burnside.
