Carl Nelson Kettenacker Sr., one of Edgewood's first leaders
In the 1950s, Carl Nelson Kettenacker Sr. of Edgewood was one of the city's first leaders, serving on the board that was the precursor of city council.
"It was a new area and he knew a lot of the people. He was very friendly toward people, " said his son, Carl W. Kettenacker of Lecanto, Fla.
"They actually used his house for the first board meeting."
Carl Nelson Kettenacker Sr. died Monday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was 91.
Mr. Kettenacker was born and reared in Bellevue.
He worked 45 years for Cincinnati Bell Telephone, retiring in 1975 as a line supervisor. He was a member of Telephone Pio neers of America, a social club, and a charter member of Summit Hills Country Club in Crestview Hills.
He was a former member of Madison Avenue Christian Church in Covington, the Henry Barnes Masonic Lodge in Bellevue and the Cincinnati Nature Center.
"He loved to play golf, and he played all sports when he was in high school, " said his son.
Mr. Kettenacker also is survived by a grandson.
His wife, Alma Lee Kettenacker, died in 1976. A son, Donald W. Kettenacker Sr., died in 1978.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home in Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery in Erlanger.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
James W. Collins, 59, of Taylor Mill, died Monday at home. He was a retired machinist with General Motors.
Survivors include sons, James C. Collins of Loganville, Ga., and William L. Collins of Florence; a daughter, Lori A. Gilbert of Taylor Mill; sisters, Mary Ann Stone of Hebron, Sandy Martin of Cincinnati and Debbie Murrell of Walton; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Rev. Thomas Condron, 62, of Houston, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Dec. 12 in Houston.
Arrangements are pending at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Jeffrey Scott Daniel, 33, of Riverdale, Ga., formerly of Villa Hills, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at his parents' home in Villa Hills.
He was a disabled painter and a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Neace Daniel; a daughter, Ashley Daniel of Riverdale; sons, Ryan Daniel and Logan Daniel, both of Riverdale; his parents, George and Jo Daniel of Villa Hills; sisters, Michele Daniel of Cincinnati and Debbie Mardis of Edgewood; a brother, Tim Daniel of Villa Hills; and grandparents, Lionel and Corinne Reynolds of Crescent Springs and Effie Daniel of Fort Mitchell.
Services will be at noon Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Richwood Presbyterian Cemetery, Richwood.

John Albert Finley, 35, of Prospect, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Monday in Prospect.
He was an attorney with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. and a member of Holy Spirit Church, Louisville.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Finley; sons, Christopher Finley and Benjamin Finley, both at home; a daughter, Callie Finley, at home; his parents, Beulah Moore and Robert Finley; and sisters, Nicki Johnson, Janice Roberts, Robin Finley and Holly Finley .
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pearson Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, Louisville. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Alafair Gibson, 91, of Highland Heights, died Tuesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. Her daughter, Georgia Daniels, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sister, Rachel Shipman of Pineville; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery.
Christopher Leo Gillespie, 72, of Crestview, formerly of Falmouth, died Tuesday at VA Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was a retired printer, an Army veteran of World War II and Korean War, and a member of Flag Springs Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, Falmouth, Disabled American Veterans and VFW Post 109.
Survivors include his wife, Rosamund Carol Gillespie of Crestview; sons, Christopher L. Gillespie of Burlington and Tony Kushniroff of St. Leon, Ind.; daughters, Annie Gillespie of Fort Worth, Texas, and Pamela Lay of Brookville, Ind.; a brother, O.T. Gillespie of Falmouth; a sister, Virginia Mask of Pearl, Miss.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation begins there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.
Clifford E. Haas, 79, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
He was a retired mixologist with the Cincinnati Club, a member of Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington and active at the Hathaway Court Apartments, Covington. He was president of the community Birthday Club.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia J. Haas; sons, Thomas J. Haas of Alice Springs, Australia, and James T. Haas of Cincinnati; a daughter, Molly Haas Skinner of Amelia Island, Fla.; a brother, Elmer Haas of Brookville, Ind.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption. Mr. Haas bequeathed his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Earl M. "Ted" Hardin, 79, of Falmouth, died Wednesday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.
He was a farmer, a member of the Falmouth VFW, on the board of directors of the Pendleton County Soil Conservation Board, a deacon at Blanket Creek Baptist Church in Pendleton County and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Leach Hardin; sons, David Hardin, Randall Hardin and Steve Hardin, all of Falmouth; a brother, Louis Hardin of Park Hills; two grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Geraldine "Jerry" Horton, 91, of Latonia, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia.
She was a retired teacher for the Covington schools, a past patron of Emera Chapter No. 392 Order of the Eastern Star, a past president of Girls Friendly Society and a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Cincinnati. She was a volunteer with St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Survivors include a cousin, May Creech of Paris.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Zetta Meade Terry Kitch, 64, of Crittenden, died Dec. 13 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Jerome Lee Kitch; a son, William Terry III; a daughter, Cindy Galbreath; a stepson, Jerry J. Kitch; a stepdaughter, Jeanne Campee; brothers, Muncie Meade Jr., Earl Eugene Meade, Eddie Meade, Randy Meade and Ned Meade; sisters, Barbara Meade Nolan, Mary Meade Waukechon, Louise Meade King and MeloDee Meade Spink; one granddaughter and four step grandchildren. Juana Martin, 68, of Florence, died Tuesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.
She was a cashier with Ameristop and a member of Florence Christian Church. Her husband, Robert Louis Martin, died in 1984.
Survivors include sons, Jeffrey Martin of Union and Arthur Martin of Florence; and five grandchildren.

Winifred May McDonald, 78, of Taylor Mill, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday at her home.
She was a retired finance supervisor with St. Elizabeth Medical Center and a member of Covington Moose Lodge No. 1469. Her husband, Albert John McDonald, died in 1960.
Survivors include a son, Mike McDonald of Independence; daughters, Kathy Robison of Florence, Collen DeHaan of Cincinnati and Arin Brann of Taylor Mill; a brother, George Crow of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Juanita Fleming of Clearwater; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Joan Bernadine Kroger Meadows, 69, of Cold Spring, died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was a homemaker and a member of Hamilton County Police and Fire Widows Group. Her husband, Herman V. Meadows, died in 1992.
Survivors include a sister, Genevieve K. Huber of Fort Thomas.

Lionel "Red" Ravenscraft, 77, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
He was a retired mechanic with Green Line bus service. His wife, Betty H. Mayer Ravenscraft, died in 1999.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Railey and Ruth Ryan, both of Covington, and Beverly McHendrix of Lakeside Park; sons, John Edward Ravenscraft of Riggins, Idaho, William Raymond Ravenscraft of Newport and Kenneth Cecil Ravenscraft of Covington; 11 grandchildren and one great- grandson.
