Richard Heimbrock, airport board official
Richard Heimbrock loved the 25 years he served as assistant secretary-treasurer of the Kenton County Airport Board.
So he was disgusted with the evil uses terrorists recently have made of airports and airplanes.
"He was very upset about that, " said his daughter, Kim Baker, also of Florence. "As sick as he was, he was mad at that (Osama) bin Laden."
Disgust was a rare mind-set with Mr. Heimbrock.
"He was just happy. He was 'Mr. Personality, ' " said Ms. Baker.
"He was everybody's favorite something - uncle, brother, friend."
Mr. Heimbrock died Wednesday at his home in Florence. He was 70.
Mr. Heimbrock, a native of Northern Kentucky and one of eight children, lived through two other historic disasters: the 1937 flood and the Depression.
As an administrator for the Kenton County Airport Board, which oversees what has become Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Mr. Heimbrock had an insider's view of the process that turned a cow pasture into an international aviation hub.
"He watched it grow from one building and then three terminals in the 1970s, " said Ms. Baker. "He was there when it really experienced a lot of growth."
Another reason Mr. Heimbrock liked working for the airport board, said Ms. Baker, were the friendships he cultivated.
"It was a little community for him, " she said. "He knew everybody and everybody loved him. He was popular out there."
Mr. Heimbrock, an accountant, was a former member of the C&O; Credit Union Board and former chairman of the Northern Kentucky Association of Accountants.
A member of Mary Queen of Heaven Church in Erlanger, he loved to golf and play cards.
He also enjoyed retreating to the family's summer home in Perry Park and relished traveling to Florida and out west with his wife, Sue. They were married
47 years.
