John 'Jack' Daly, 69, electrician, hard worker
John "Jack" Daly liked to play jokes on colleagues while he worked as a union electrician. But he was a serious worker, and was proud he instilled a hard-work attitude in each of his four children.
"He instilled work ethic in all his children, " said his wife of 44 years, Helen Daly. "They were good kids, and they worked hard for everything they earned."
Mr. Daly was a boy during the Great Depression, and "when he was young, they didn't have much. He believed you had to work for everything."
The 69-year-old Fort Thomas resident died 12:20 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was an electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local No. 212, Cincinnati, a member of St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He and his wife were married
at St. Bernard Church in Dayton and lived in Bellevue before moving to Ft. Thomas 40 years ago. Their son is a Ft. Thomas police sergeant.
Survivors include three daughters, Colleen Foulks of Woodlawn, Sharon Blaker and Peggy Daly, both of Fort Thomas; a son, Mike Daly of Fort Thomas; sisters, Vivian Rapien and Kathy Damen, both of Cincinnati, and Carol Hehemann of Wilder; and seven grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Church.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Burial: St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Memorials: Newport Central Catholic High School, 13 Carothers Road, Newport.
Ruth Allender, 78, of Highland Heights, died Monday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a cafeteria worker with Pendleton County Hospital and a kitchen worker with the former Small Fry Restaurant, and a member of Falmouth Baptist Church. A son, Stanley Allender, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Wanda Zumwalt of Taylor Mill, Ruth Cookendorfer of Falmouth, Linda Yoakum of Raymore, Mo., and Vicky Call of Newport; a sister, Frances Harrison of Williamstown; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Lenoxburg Cemetery, Bracken County.

Bilbo Caston, 91, of Park Hills, died at 2:05 a.m. Monday at Mercy Hospital Anderson, Cincinnati.
He was a retired inspector with General Electric, Cincinnati, and a member of Bilbro Masonic Lodge, Cincinnati Scottish Rite and Cincinnati Syrian Temple. His wife, Nina Jo Caston, died in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Howard Caston of Park Hills; brothers, Edgar Caston of Baton Rouge, La., and Charles Caston of Pasagoula, Miss.; sisters, Helen Hodges and Annie Ruth Browning, both of Baton Rouge; and one grandchild.
Services will be at noon Friday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Milford, Ohio.
Carneal Minchey Edens, 83, of Lebanon, Tenn., formerly of Walton, died Monday at University Medical Center, Lebanon. She was a retired teacher with Dixie Heights High School and the University of Cincinnati, and a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a brother, Ro land Minchey of Lebanon; and a niece, Freida Morse, also of Lebanon.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Wilson County Memorial Gardens, Lebanon.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2:45 p.m. today at Ligon and Bob Funeral Home, Lebanon.
Nicholas Louis Filacchione, 71, of Edgewood, died Tuesday at his home.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Dr. Jesse Willard Fletcher, 73, of Melbourne, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a chiropractor with offices in Alexandria and Highland Heights, and a past president of the Northern Kentucky Chiropractors Association.
He was a U.S. Army veteran. His wife, Margaret Fletcher, died last year.
Survivors include sons, Erick Clifford Henslee of Erlanger, Lance Steffen Henslee of West Chester, Ohio, and John Vernon Fletcher of Melbourne; daughters, Claudia Jay Morris of Jacksonville, Fla., and Laura Mae Coontz of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Roger A. Haddix, 45, of Washington Township, Ohio, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Anderson, Cincinnati.
He was an employee of the Ohio Department of Transportation and a member of Batavia Baptist Temple, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Delecia Ann Back Haddix; a son, Roger Andrew Haddix of Washing ton Township; a brother, Donnie E. Haddix of Felicity, Ohio; a stepson, Michael L. Ashcraft of Independence; a stepdaughter, Casey L. Ashcraft of Taylor Mill; sisters, Edith Mae Scott of Batavia, Ohio, Sheryl Taylor of Felicity, Ohio and Carlene Day of Hamersville, Ohio; and a step-grandson.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Alice May Iles, 74, of Crescent Springs, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a mattress assembler with Safeguard Co., Covington.
Her husband, William H. Iles Sr., died in 1987.
Survivors include sons, William H. Iles Jr. of San Francisco, Robert Iles of Ohio, Jesse Iles and James Iles, both of Erlanger, Ralph Iles of Brooksville and Donald Iles of Independence; daughters, Dorothy Watkins of Richmond, Viola Wagner of Crescent Springs, Laura Webster of Ludlow and Mary Iles of Florence; 29 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Polly Jane Morgan, 83, of Latonia, died at 11:50 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Fred Herbert Morgan, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons, Norman Morgan of Paris, Curt Morgan of Latonia and Don Morgan of East Bernstadt; daughters, Marie Hornsby and Kim Morgan, both of Covington, Gloria Richards of Inde pendence and Diana O'Donnell of Latonia; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Brandon Wayne Davis Stith, 10, of Walton, died Saturday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.
He was a student at New Haven Elementary School, Union.
His father, Larry Stith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his mother, Lori Stith of Walton; a brother, Caleb Dylan Stith of Walton; grandparents, Larry Stith of Gardnersville, and Sue and Lee Callahan of Dry Ridge; and great-grandfather, Clarence Stith of Williamstown.
Services were this morning at Big Bone Baptist Church. Burial was in Crittenden Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Stith Family Memorial Fund, in care of Bank of Kentucky, 12 Taft Highway, Dry Ridge, Ky. 41035. Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, handled arrangements.
Javen Andrew Vires, 4 days, of Independence, died Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his parents, Eric Anthony Vires and Brandy April Ferguson, both of Independence; grandparents, Shirley Denham of Foster, and Michael Vires and Joyce Blanchet, both of Union; a great- grandmother, Darla Curtis of Covington; and a great-great-grandmother, Lillian Penrod of Covington.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
