Floyd Vanlandingham, Falmouth councilman
Floyd E. Vanlandingham, 73, of Falmouth, owner of the Dixie Oil Co. and a former Falmouth City Council member who had a special interest in youth football, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
He also was a 25-year veteran of the Merchant Marines, a career that enabled him to travel around the world and, in Italy, meet the woman who became his wife for 46 years.
Mr. Vanlandingham served two terms on Falmouth City Council and was active in the Pendleton County Football Boosters. He helped raise money for uniforms for young football players and, when teams didn't have a place to practice, he let them practice on his land.
"He wanted kids to have something to do to keep them off the streets, " said Mr. Vanlandingham's daughter, Franca Fischer of Edgewood.
"He was a kind and good-hearted man, " said Mr. Vanlandingham's wife, Raimonda.
Mr. Vanlandingham joined the Merchant Marines when he was 17 years old and worked as an electrician on passenger and cargo ships until he left the service at age 42.
He returned home and worked as an electrician and a plumber before starting his own heating oil business.
Other survivors include brothers Stanley Vanlandingham of Florence and Lytle Vanlandingham of Falmouth, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight (Monday night) at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Falmouth.

Ruth Morris Cochran, 73, of Highland Heights, died at 5:46 p.m Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Jack Cochran, died in 1984.
Survivors include a stepson, Garrell Cochran of Bradford, Ark.; a brother, James Gordon Morris of Lansing, Mich.; and sisters, Ruby Gardiner of Bromley, Pearl Bettis, Jewell Lingle and Jeanett Miller, all of Covington, and Margie Etta Clarke of Elsmere.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.
Dorothy Jane Cuthbert, 83, of Independence, died at 5:45 p.m. Friday at her home. She was a retired real estate agent and homemaker and attended Beechgrove Baptist Church, Independence. Her husband, Edward Cuthbert, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Pat Cuthbert of Latonia; a daughter, Norma Fulmer of Walton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
Louise E. Dryden, 89, of Latonia, died at 7:15 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired employee of Frank Tea & Spice Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia J. Beers and Joyce Yancey, both of Covington; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were at noon today at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial was in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Church, 3612 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015, or Covington Fire Department, 27 W. Southern Ave., Covington, Ky. 41015.
William Clarence Fry, 72, of Bellevue, died Friday at his home.
He was a truck driver with 7-Up Bottling Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue and Newport Elks Lodge. His wife, Gladys Tuel Fry, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Michael Fry of Covington and William D. Fry of Cincinnati; a brother, John Fry of Fort Thomas; and sisters, Elaine LaWarre of Highland Heights and Janet Schuster of Southgate.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Pearl Mavis Hagan, 92, of Erlanger, died at 12:35 p.m. Friday at her home.
She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, Covington. Her husband, Samuel Martin Hagan, died in 1980.
Survivors include sons, Bobby Hagan of Latonia and Martin Hagan of Phoenix; daughters, Thelma Doris Coleman of Erlanger, Jean Karen Mearns of Fort Mitchell and Judith R. Niewahner of Villa Hills; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Hazel Marie Harrison, 72, of Latonia, died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a former employee of Johnson Controls, Florence, and a member of New Life Ministries Church, Newport. A son, Stanlery McDuffie, died in 1994.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Harrison; a daughter, Wendy O'Brien of Bellevue; sons, Christopher Harrison of Latonia and Steve McDuffie of Creedmore, N.C.; sisters, Edith Wellman and Bertha Stewart, both of Pike County; brothers, Ted Rowe of Independence and Russell Rowe of Cincinnati; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were this morning at New Life Ministries Church. Burial was in Independence Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, handled arrangements.
Brent E. Johnson, 37, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a home health care provider.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Sharon A. Powell and Yunus Ali, both of Covington; a father, Dwight Beal of Covington; brothers, Makeem Raheen and Yunus Powell, both of Covington; sisters, Sherri Powell and Kristie Powell, both of Covington, and Jennifer Powell of Miami; and grandparents, Donald and Betty Johnson of Covington.

James Furman Mastin, 71, of Robertson County, died Friday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a member of Sardis Christian Church.
Survivors include sisters, Dallas M. Bradley of Mount Olivet and Bernice Moran of Felicity, Ohio; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick.
Robert Louis Schweer, 83, of Erlanger, died Friday at Villa Springs Care Center, Erlanger. He was a retired carpenter with Brunswick Co. and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Moore Schweer; daughters, Sharon Schweer and Diane Thoman, both of Florence, and Terrie Perry of Erlanger; a sister, Elinor Schweer of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Old Cemetery, Cincinnati. Betty M. Simms, 72, of Maysville, died at 10:50 a.m. Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. She was a homemaker. A son, Ernie Ray Thomas, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard Simms; a son, Marvin Ormes of Tollesboro; a stepson, Michael Simms of Maysville; a sister, Anna Bloomfield of Bucyrus, Ohio; brothers, Don Jordan of Maysville and Jess Jordan of Mishawaka, Ind.; and a grandson.

Raymond L. Skirvin, 74, of Warsaw, died Friday at his home. He was a retired chairman of the Gallatin County Soil Conservations office and was a maintenance worker with Butler State Park. He was a deacon with Warsaw Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary T. Skirvin; daughters, Mary Lee Keeton and Rhonda Mikel, both of Warsaw; a sister, Mary Nell Skirvin of Warsaw; two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Nova Mae Tingle, 78, of Ghent, died Friday at Baptist East Hospital, Louisville. She was a homemaker and a member of Ghent Christian Church. Her husband, Elmer Tingle, died in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Tingle of Ghent; and a brother, Raymond Furnish of Carrollton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation began there at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery.
William Wright Willison, 57, of Maysville, died Friday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a truck driver with the Kentucky Department of Transportation and a member of Seddon Methodist Church, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge, all in Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Walker Willison; a son, William Wright Willison Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla.; daughters, Kelly Clodfelter of St. Augustine, Fla., and Angela Liemberger of Maysville; his mother, Minnette Willison; a brother, Albert "Scrappy" Willison of Maysville; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Mason County. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Opal Witty, 83, of Crittenden, died at 10:55 p.m. Sunday at Village Care Center, Erlanger.
