Betty Lou Roach, 75, professional seamstress
Betty Lou Roach, 75, of Covington, a professional seamstress who entertained neighborhood children and provided support for her family, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
When Mrs. Roach's husband, Martin, came down with Alzheimer's disease, she refused to send him to a nursing home and instead cared for him herself in their home.
"She was only 5 feet tall, but she had the will of a giant, " said Mrs. Roach's son, Timothy Roach of Covington. "She was a strong person."
Mrs. Roach was a retired power machine operator with Schaeffer Tailoring Co., and a member of Mother of God Church in Covington, the church Ladies Altar Society and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
She was popular with children in her neighborhood.
"She loved children and wanted to make sure they were all right, " said Timothy Roach. "Because of her, kids liked to hang out at our place and play around the house."
Mrs. Roach was an avid bowler and the members of her bowling team honored her by calling their team "Betty's Five."
In addition to working as a seamstress, Mrs. Roach enjoyed sewing clothes and costumes for her family.
Other survivors include a son, Stephen W. Roach of Cold Spring; daughters, Donna Kay White of Grays Lake, Ill., and Deborah A. Tabben of Independence; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday at Mother of God Church in Covington.
Visitation will begin at the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum in Fort Mitchell.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075; or the charity of the donor's choice.
Lillian Carnes, 82, of Williamstown, died Sunday at her home. She was a retired cook with Dry Ridge Personal Care Home, Dry Ridge, and a member of Williamstown Christian Church.
Survivors include daughters, Nora Lou Tiller of Dry Ridge, Nancy Austin and Pamela Schoepflin, both of Williamstown; a brother, Raymond Hurt of Taylor Mill; sisters, Blanche Coldiron of Crittenden and Irene Brewer of Stanton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Mount Zion Baptist Church, 5320 Sherman-Mount Zion Road, Dry Ridge, Ky. 41035.
Phillip J. French, 43, of Latonia, died Sunday in Erlanger.

Lucille Lively Grote, 93, of Bellevue, died Thursday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.

Mabel Irene Hempfling, 87, of Erlanger, died Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a retired tax examiner with the Internal Revenue Service and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church and Boone County Homemakers Club.
Survivors include a son, James M. Hempfling of Erlanger; a brother, Floyd Lindsay of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.
Vivian Brockman Huber, 90, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was an assistant manager with Duth Pantry.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Lunsford of Erlanger and Delores Burton of Boynton Beach, Fla.; brothers, Vertrice Day of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Pat Day of Erlanger; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Beverly Ruth Lindon, 60, of Warsaw, died Monday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was disabled.
Survivors include sisters, Marie Ahlers of Sparta and Vivian Lindon of Warsaw; brothers, Larry Lindon of Covington and Virgil Lindon of Verona.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery.
Carl A. Meder, 68, of Crescent Springs, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a cabinet maker with Midwest Woodworking Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include sisters, Pauline Condon of Florence, Joan Meder of Crescent Springs and Pat Putthoff of Fort Wright; brothers, Jack Meder of Erlanger, Lonnie Meder of Thorton, Colo., and Tom Meder and Bob Meder, both of Crescent Springs.

William Parker, 63, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Charles W. Raum, 82, of Covington, died at 5:46 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was an employee of Erpenbeck Construction and Vandaren Construction companies, a past presi dent of the Covington Racing Pigeon Club and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a sister, Anne Gronotte of Park Hills; nieces and nephews.

Sarah Ann Schwenke, 76, of Union, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of All Saints Church, Walton.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Schwenke; daughters, Carol Lampl and Linda Manning, both of Union; sons, Robert Schwenke and Rus sell Schwenke, both of Union; a brother, John Scheitz of Palatine, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

William B. Tieman, 66, of Wilder, died Monday at his home. He was a retired technician for Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Newport Elks and Telephone Pioneers of America. He was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Tieman; a daughter, Laura Greis of Falmouth; a son, Michael Tieman of Wilder; a sister, Lois Schneider of Fort Wright; brothers, Robert Tieman of Cold Spring and Roger Tieman of Erlanger; and one grandchild.

James Hope Veirs, 85, of Butler, died today at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Margaret Warther, 95, of Cincinnati, died Sunday in Erlanger. She was a member of Holy Family Church, Cincinnati.

Patricia Francis Mahoney Willoughby, 77, of Demossville, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, James Hubbard, died in 2000. A daughter, Barbara Jacobs, died June 22. A son, Donnie Willoughby, died in 1996.
Survivors include daughters, Darlene White of St. Peters burg, Fla., Patty Goldizen of Norwood, Ohio, Linda Hartke of Latonia, Jeannie Parker of Butler and Donna Mae Kercu of Chicago; sons, James Hubbard of Alexandria, Darryl Willoughby of Latonia and Alvin Willoughby of Felicity, Ohio; 30 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
