Lucille Lively Grote, home nursing volunteer in WWII
Lucille Lively Grote, 93, of Newport, a World War II Grey Lady nursing home volunteer, died Thursday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Bellevue, a volunteer there and at the Baptist Convalescent Center.
Mrs. Grote was a Grey Lady during World War II, volunteering at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home.
"She was always there to help people, " said Mrs. Grote's niece, Dorothy Davis of Independence. "Even in her 80s she would give friends a ride to the grocery store or doctor."
Mrs. Grote learned the impor tance of helping others when she was a youngster. With her mother bed-ridden with tuberculosis, she took care of her six younger brothers and sisters.
As an adult, Mrs. Grote became an excellent seamstress, making her own clothes and wedding gowns for friends.
"She was a very sweet person, very generous and extremely helpful, " said Mrs. Davis.
Mrs. Grote's husband, John William Grote, died in 1984.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Lively of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Bellevue.
Mrs. Grote bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Dobbling Funeral Home in Bellevue is handling arrangements. Gilbert George Altenhofen, 87, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a machinist with Mosler Safe Co. in Milford, Ohio, and a member of Worldwide Church of God and the National Rifle Association. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Grace Altenhofen, died in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Carmack of Independence; stepsons, Greg Hansen of Erlanger and Gary Hansen of Fort Wright; a sister, Sally Burdge of Burlington; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
William LeConte Anderson, of Carrollton, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired employee of Bell South Systems, and a registered architect. He was a charter member of the Society of American Registered Architects and American Legion Post No. 41 in Carrollton. He was a division chief of the National Staff-Department of Education of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Dale Anderson; and a sister, Patricia C. Anderson of Marietta, Ga.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Daisy Ella Dickson, 74, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died at 9 p.m. Monday at Mercy-Franciscan Hospital, Mount Airy campus, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and a deaf singer with Winton Place Baptist Church, Cincinnati.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Stephens of Newport; sons, David W. Holt of Middletown, Ohio, and Howard L. Holt of Fairfield, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Rita School for the Deaf, 1720 Glendale-Milford Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45215. Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
Dudley John Michael Ferdinando III, 23 months, son of Wayne and Bobbie Ferdinando of Florence, died Sunday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include sisters, Kaydee Ferdinando and Jesse Ferdinando, both at home, and Tiffany Ferdinando of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brothers, Douglas Ferdinando of St. Petersburg and Micheal Ferdinando, at home; and grandparents, Laura Kay Hill of Elsmere, and Shirley Ann and Dudley John Michael Ferdinando I of St. Petersburg. Services will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Friday. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Riley S. Fultz, 59, of Union, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a sales representative with Lance Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hornsby Fultz; sons, Joseph Fultz of the Czech Republic, Michael Fultz of Cincinnati and Eric Fultz of Union; sisters, Louise Nycum and Leatrice Martin, both of Harrogate, Tenn., Ruby Schenkel of Newcastle, Ind., Ruth Biehl of Rushville, Ind.; brothers, Ronald Fultz of Harrogate and Ralph Fultz of Ewing, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Florence Baptist Temple. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery, Union. Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling arrangements.
William H. Parker Jr., 63, of Covington, died at 5:52 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a retired electronics technician with Western Union, Cincinnati, and a security guard with Levi-Strauss Co. and Adais Shoe Manufacturing Co. He was a member of St. John Church, Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Holsclaw Parker; a son, David Parker of Florence; daughters, Leslee K. Parker of Taylor Mill and Kelli Mengel of San Francisco; his mother, Edna Parker of West Covington; and sisters, Mary Mulei of Cincinnati, Patricia Parker of West Covington and Kay Coyle of Park Hills.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Hector Ivan Ramos, 42, of Florence, died Nov. 11 at Jewish Hospital, Kenwood campus, Cincinnati, of injuries he suffered in an auto accident. He was an assistant trainer with Dale Scrogins Farms.
Survivors include his mother, Rosa Marie Ramos of Puerto Rico.
Services were held in Puerto Rico. Naegele, Kleb and Ihlendorf Funeral Home, Cincinnati, handled arrangements.
Lisa Michelle Rump, 26, of Taylor Mill, died Monday at University Hospital in Cincinnati from injuries sustained in a traffic accident. She was a customer service representative at Huntington Bank in Independence, a member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia and St. Pius X Church in Edgewood, and a 1993 graduate of Holy Cross District High School, where she played basketball, soccer and softball. She attended Northern Kentucky University.
Surviving are her fiance, Jay A. Moore of Independence; her parents, Stephen A. and Cathy A. Gastright Rump, of Taylor Mill; maternal grandmother, Mary Lou Gastright of Latonia; a brother, Stephen A. Rump Jr. of Taylor Mill; and sisters Jennifer E. Rump and Rachael R. Rump, both of Taylor Mill.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Church in Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be in Mother of God Cemetery. Otis Smith, 58, of Alexandria, died Monday at his residence. Arrangements are pending at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Fort Thomas.
Flora Taylor, 81, of Covington, died Saturday at her home.
She was a member of Covington First Baptist Church and the Covington American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include a sister, Melvena Jones of Cincinnati; and two nephews.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 120 E. Ninth St., Covington. Visitation will begin there at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mary Smith Cemetery, Elsmere. Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
James H. Veirs, 85, of Butler, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired diesel mechanic with Newport Steel, and a deacon with Flour Creek Christian Church, Butler. He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Veirs; a son, Billy Veirs of Butler; daughters, Marilyn Kells and Jackie McElfresh; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Flour Creek Christian Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pendleton County. Ellen Rose Young, 91, of Villa Hills, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Church, Covington. She was a member of the church Pathfinders group and St. Monica Society.
Survivors include daughters, Peggy Goodridge of Hebron, Marilyn Engel of Cleveland and Charlene Burger of Hickory, N.C.; sons, Charles Young of Burlington and Michael Young of Fort Mitchell; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
