Pearl Duvall, food server, enjoyed talking to people
Pearl C. Duvall, a resident of Florence for more than 60 years, died Monday morning at St. Luke Hospital West. She was 89.
Mrs. Duvall was born in Clark County, Kentucky, but her family moved to Covington when she was a toddler, said her son, James Duvall of Union.
She moved to Florence in 1940 after marrying her husband, Reuben G. Duvall.
She was a homemaker for many years, but after her husband died in 1967, Mrs. Duvall worked at Boone County High School and at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport as a food handler, her son said. She retired at age 70 only because she was required to do so, he said.
"My mother was what you might call a 'goer.' She wanted to keep working. She loved getting out and talking to people, " Duvall said. "She had a lot of friends ... she would shop and go on trips with."
Mrs. Duvall was a member of Kento-Boo Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, both in Florence.
In addition to her son, James Duvall of Union, Mrs. Duvall is survived by a daughter, Carol Walton of Florence; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A son, Donald Glenn Duvall, died in 1988.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kento-Boo Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Raymond L. Baker Sr., 64, of Florence, died Saturday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton.
He was a retired maintenance machinist with Lucas Automotive in Batavia, Ohio.
A son, Thomas Baker, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Krummen Baker; sons, Raymond Baker Jr. and Dennis Baker, both of Florence, and Ronald Baker of Crittenden; a daughter, Judy Martin of Burlington; a brother, Robert Baker of Grant County; sisters, Juanita Spence of Cincinnati, Ella Cahill and Virginia Shaffer, both of Florence; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Beatrice Haley Hammons, 89, of Centerville, Ohio, formerly of Covington, died Sunday in Centerville.
She was a homemaker and a member of South Side Baptist Church, Covington.
Her husband, Henry Gayle Hammons, died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Norma Doherty of Centerville; a sister, Thelma Cleveland of Berry; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Geneva Runge, 85, of Malabar, Fla., formerly of Constance, died Sunday at her home.
Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Everett A. "Nookie" Simms Jr., 50, of Maysville, died at 8:20 a.m. Monday at his home.
He was a truck driver.
A daughter, Crystal Simms Johnson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Lawson Simms; a son, Doug Simms Johnson of Morehead; daughters, Janelle Shields of Fleming County, Jeanette Whalen and Paula Michelle Lawson, both at home; and a sister, Diana Simms of Maysville.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Maysville Cemetery.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Robert Spaulding, 86, of Cincinnati, formerly of Highland Heights, died Sunday at Hospice of Blue Ash, Cincinnati.
He was a former mechanic with Cincinnati Gas & Electric, a security guard with Cincinnati Bell and a member of Batavia Masonic Lodge and Syrian Shrine.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Edwards; stepdaughters, Tonya Booth and Barbara Eldred; brothers, Charles Spaulding and Mel Spaulding, both of Alexandria; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Viola Marie Wilson, 92, of Cincinnati, formerly of West Covington, died Sunday in Cincinnati.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Kenneth Wilson Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Wilson Jr.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at T. P. White Funeral Home, Cincinnati.
Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
