Robert Lincoln 'Sid' Reeves, 77, businessman
Robert Lincoln "Sid" Reeves, the former owner of two Ludlow institutions -- Reeves Fruit and Produce Market and the Reeves Dairy Cheer -- died Wednesday evening. He was 77.
C.P. Reeves, Mr. Reeves' father, founded the fruit market during the first decade of the 20th century. Sid Reeves took over the business after fighting with the 511th Parachute Infantry in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The market is still owned and operated by the Reeves family today.
Mr. Reeves would later found the Reeves Dairy Cheer in Ludlow, a favorite gathering spot for young people after ballgames and parades during the 1950s and 1960s, said his daughter, Vickie Rohlman Chamberlain of Fort Wright.
"The Dairy Cheer was the one place in the community people could go for carry-out, " Mrs. Chamberlain said. "It was a fun place to get together, jump on the trampolines and see familiar faces. It seemed like he knew everybody's name."
He later opened another drive-in dairy in Florence in the early 1960s.
