Betty Breetz, Catholic lay minister
Betty Breetz, of Villa Hills, who led numerous Catholic church activities, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood after suffering a heart attack. She was 68.
"It was a tremendous shock because she had appeared to be in good health, " said Mrs. Breetz's daughter, Therese Kranz of Cincinnati.
"She spent her last day the way she had spent much of her life helping people. She had gone to help the nuns at St. Walburg Monastery when she was stricken."
Mrs. Breetz was a lay minister with the Diocese of Covington. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Crescent Springs, where she was active in the church bereavement committee, served as an eucharistic minister and led Bible studies and prayer groups.
She served on the core committee of Benedictine Association of St. Walburg Monastery, where she published a quarterly newsletter and was a member of several groups. She also was an archivist with Thomas More College.
"She was fully dedicated, with a deep relationship to the church, " said Mrs. Kranz. "She survived on faith and opened it to other people.
"Her goal was to have others grow in their faith. She was a mentor to quite a number of people. She had drive and passion."
Mrs. Breetz worked in the continuing medical education department at Christ Hospital and retired in 1998.
Other survivors include her husband, Charles "Bud" Breetz; sons, Mike Breetz of Alexandria, Greg Breetz and Jim Breetz, both of Hebron, Tim Breetz of Independence, Gary Breetz of Morgantown, W. Va., and Tom Breetz of Fort Mitchell; a daughter, Laura Quesenberry of Crestwood; a brother, Tom Kallmeyer of Villa Hills; and 19 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Memorials are suggested to St. Walburg Monastery or Villa Madonna Academy, both at 2500 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills, Ky. 41017. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Rose Barton, 70, of Fort Thomas, died at 5:10 p.m. Monday at her home.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Keith Barton; a son, Paul Barton Sr. of Newport; a sister, Marlene Schwartz of Federalsburg, Md.; brothers, Albert Braun of Southgate and Max Braun of Chapin, S.C.; and four grandsons.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit/St. Stephen Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to charity.
Earl H. "Doc" Case, 80, of Georgetown, died at 12:50 a.m. Monday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a retired machinist with Laddish Inc., Cynthiana, and a farmer, a member of Powersville Baptist Church and a World War II veteran. His wife, Virginia Maude Mains Case, died in 1997.
Survivors include a sister, Mary "Wanda" Case Irvine of Quartz Hill, Calif.; and a nephew, Tom Irvine of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Powersville Cemetery.
Audrey J. Simpson Catron, 77, of Grant County, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Avis Souder Collins, 81, of Dry Ridge, died at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a former cafeteria worker for Dry Ridge Elementary School and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Jonesville. Her husband, Ashby W. "Toad" Collins, died in 1981.
Survivors include her daughter, Carole Kemper of Jonesville; sons, Rev. Kendall Collins of Frankfort and Robert Cotton of Park Hills; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Macedonia Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton.
Dr. Suzanne Elliott Cortez, 74, of Fort Wright, died at 10:35 p.m. Oct. 11 at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
She was a professor of psychology at Northern Kentucky University and a member of the board of directors of the Cincinnati NAACO and Cincinnati Psychological Association. She published articles in professional journals and was editor of Mind Matters, a publication of the Cincinnati Psychological Association.
Dr. Cortez was a former supervisor of the Diagnostic Evaluation Center in Spring field, Mo., and a psychology professor at Southwest Missouri State University. She was a former school psychologist and taught classes at schools in Fort Wayne, Ind., and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Survivors include a daughter, Lydia Lee Kemppainen of Fort Wright; a sister, Janet Titus of Springfield, Mo.; nieces and nephews.

ky.obit Ruby Dean Dale England, 59, of Brooksville, died Monday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. She was a retired teacher with Cincinnati schools.
Survivors include a brother, Arnold Davis of Milford, Ohio; and a niece, Jami Davis of Milford.

Michael L. Galvin, 44, of Erlanger, died Sunday at his home. He was a hotel manager.

Anna May Lenhoff Goodall, 85, of Cincinnati, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Monday in Harrison, Ohio. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Ed Goodall; sons, Ed Goodall and Leroy Goodall; and daughters, Rose Toole and Fran Goodall, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Etta Bleil of Dayton and Patricia Garrett; sons, Joe Goodall, Gerry Goodall and Larry Goodall, all of Cincinnati; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frances Kipping Graham, 87, of Carrollton, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a substitute teacher with Carrollton High School, a member of Carrollton Christian Church, Ghent Homemakers and Carrollton Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Carroll D. Graham, died in 1976.
Survivors include daughters, Jane Arnold of Fort Mitchell and Lynn Allen of Centerville, Ohio; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ellen Reynold Griffith, 87, of Taylor Mill, died at 11:25 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of Highland Avenue Baptist Tabernacle in Fort Thomas, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of Gertrude Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Newport. Her husband, Jepp Griffith, died in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Millard Griffith of Southgate; a daughter, Nancy Ruth Sebastians of Taylor Mill; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Thomas G. Huddle, 62, of Charleston, Ill., formerly of Alexandria, died at 5:41 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was a chief mechanical engineer with Trailmobile in Chicago,

Theodore Orcutt, 44, of Foster, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was disabled.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Orcutt; a son, T. J. Orcutt of Foster; his parents, Doris Orcutt of Foster and Paul Orcutt of Florida; a brother, Terry Orcutt of Foster; and a half-sister, Anna Orcutt of Alexandria. John J. Porter, 85, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at his home. He was an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Co. His wife, Dorothy L. Porter, died in 1997.
Survivors include sons, David Porter of Buena Park, Calif., and Michael Porter of Dry Ridge; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

William J. Risch Sr., 80, of Newport, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a mechanic and a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Martha Risch, died in 1998.
Survivors include daughters, Annette Denniston of Bellevue, Robin Gray of Alexandria and Gwen McDyer of Newport; a son, William Risch Jr. of Bellevue; a brother, Raymond Risch of Claryville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rosemary E. Scholz Sabelhaus, 89, of Elsmere, died Monday at Village Care Center, Erlanger. She was an assistant cook with Colony Restaurant and a member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Her husband, William Sabelhaus Sr., and son, William Sabelhaus Jr., both preceded her in death.

Chris Tibbs, 49, of Covington, died Monday at his home.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he ran the Fort Mitchell Post Office and a member of Mother of God Church, Covington.

Marjorie Trego, 83, of Florence, died Monday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere. She was a homemaker and a member of Florence Baptist Church and Florence Women's Club. She was a former Girl Scout leader and a volunteer with American Cancer Society. Her husband, Frank Trego, died in 1980.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Trego of Florence; a daughter, Frances Moeller of Brookhaven, N.Y.; brothers, Gene Bell of Stanford and Harold Bell of Union; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Blanche Smith Waite, 80, of Florence, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, George M. Waite, died in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Slayback of Florence; sons, Robin Mains of Cold Spring and Mark Mains of Independence; a sister, Hazel Roberta Taylor of Newport; and nine grandchildren.

Ruth L. Wetzel, 94, of Kenton Hills, died Monday at Cottingham Retirement Community, Cincinnati.
She was a teacher and principal with Cincinnati Public Schools and schools in Northern Kentucky, and was a member of Madison Avenue Christian Church, Covington. She was a member of the National Education Association and Daughters of the American Revolution, and served on the Roebling Suspension Bridge committee during the Greater Cincinnati bicentennial celebration. Her husband, Walter Wetzel, died in 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Cottier of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.
