Charlotte Fisher, 85, ceramics store owner
Charlotte N. Fisher, 85, of Covington, owner of Studio One Ceramics in Elsmere, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She previously owned and operated Villa Fiest Tavern in Taylor Mill and was a founding member of the Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. She was the department's first president.
"Mom always loved helping people, " said Mrs. Fisher's son, Michael Fisher of Independence. "She was a very giving person, always opting to put the needs of everyone before her.
"When teaching and helping students learn the creative and artistic outlet of ceramics, it gave her that opportunity."
Mrs. Fisher's family suffered greatly during World War II, with three of her brothers killed and two others wounded in the war. The Moon Brothers American Legion Post in Independence was named for her brothers.
Mrs. Fisher cared for one of her wounded brothers for 33 years, and, following a separation from her husband, reared three children on her own.
"Mom was an inspiration to the modern day woman, " said Michael. "She went to work to be sure all of us kids had clothes, food and a roof over our heads. That was rarely heard of in the 1950s.
"She taught us the responsibilities of life and the value and joy of sharing it with others."
