Iona Gaines, beauty shop owner
Iona Dixon Gaines, 79, of Williamstown, a retired beauty shop owner, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
"She was quiet, with a lovely disposition, " said Mrs. Gaines' daughter-in-law, Hope Gaines, of Sadieville.
"Everyone liked her quite a bit. She made a lot of friends when she operated her beauty shop and she made a lot friends being a greeter at Wal-Mart."
Mrs. Gaines owned and operated Iona's Beauty Shop in her Williamstown home. More recently, she was a greeter at Wal-Mart in Dry Ridge.
She especially enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader.
She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. Her husband, Irwin C. Gaines, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Gary Gaines of Sadieville; sisters, Vada Phillips of Lexington and Arva Godman of Paducah; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Ravens Creek cemetery in Harrison County.

Jack G. Blevins, 73, of Newport, died at 3:35 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired self-employed painter and paper hanger.
Survivors include sisters, Lola Schudda of Tucson, Ariz., and Lena Thomas of Newport.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp- Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Baltimore Pike Cemetery, Cincinnati.
Thomas C. Brewer, 62, of Cincinnati, died Wednesday at his home.
Survivors include a son, Timothy Brewer of Cincinnati.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Denny Family Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to Thomas Brewer Memorial Fund, in care of Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, P. O. Box 55, Walton, Ky. 41094.
Howard E. Courtney, 78, of Falmouth, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday at a friend's home in Butler. He was a retired employee of Ammerman Hardware Store, Falmouth, a member of Mount Moriah Christian Church, Butler, the Hardin-Browning American Legion Post No. 109, and the Disabled American Veterans, and an Army veteran of World War II. His first wife, Edith Courtney, died in 1974. His second wife, Mackie Courtney, died in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Doutaz of Falmouth; a son, Ron Courtney of Nicholasville; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Ammerman of Lexington; a sister, Louise Stephens of Williamstown; and two step- grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Memorial Park for U.S. Army Memorial, in care of Hardin-Browning American Legion Post No. 109, Falmouth, Ky. 41040.
Vera B. Moore Crupper, 72, of Florence, died Friday at her home.
She was a child care worker with Southwestern College of Business, Covington. A son, Steve Crupper, died in 1982.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Lewis Crupper; a son, Danny Crupper of Hebron; daughters, Sue Kelly and Robin Lynn, both of Florence, and Hope Crupper-Wilson of Butler; sisters, Beulah Gillispie of Elsmere and Nancy Conrad of Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Loraine P. Daulton, 76, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a waitress with Caintuckee Grill and a member of Elsmere Church of Christ. Her husband, Robert Philip Daulton, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons, Robert Daulton and Michael Daulton, both of Florence; daughters, Donna Puckett of Walton and Patricia Kloentrup of Union; brothers, Eddie Cooper and Bobby Cooper, both of Union; a sister, Carol Morris of Sanders; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Eva Farley, 87, of Covington, died Sunday at Florence Park Care Center.

Bob "Whitey" Geiger, 69, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a district manager with Coca Cola Co., a driver with Senior Services of Northern Kentucky, a member of St. Paul Church, Florence, the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame and Twin Oaks Golf Club, a coach for Boone County youth football and knothole baseball, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Geiger; a son, Michael Geiger of Florence; daughters, Lisa Geiger of Hebron, Connie Guenther of Independence and Peggy Houp of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Church. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Katherine Goetz Hoffmann, 102, of Fort Thomas, died at 6 p.m. Saturday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a homemaker, a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas, the church's Martha Circle, the Fort Thomas Woman's Club and Highland Homemakers Club. Her husband, Richard A. Hoffmann, died in 1975.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Betty King of Jacksonville, Ala.; 10 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

Leman Horn, 61, of Butler, died Saturday at his home. He was a steel loader with Ryerson Steel, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Laverne Horn; sons, Kelly Horn, Scott Horn and Todd Horn, all of Butler, and David Horn of Crittenden; brothers, James Horn of Cromwell, Kenneth Horn, Finley Horn, Eddie Horn and Odel Horn, all of Richmond; sisters, Emma Brandenburg of Beattyville, Lucille Burkhead of Louisville and Eulene Laincint of Richmond; and three grandchildren.

Dennie Pearl Jackson, 54, of Edgewood, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
She was a legal secretary with the O'Hara, Ruberg and Taylor law firm, Covington, and a member of South Side Baptist Church, Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Jackson; daughters, Julie White of Lakeside Park and Rebecca Jackson of Edgewood; her mother, Stella B. Frederick of Florence; sisters, Wanda Kannady of Morning View, Nancy Smith of Florence and Gail Dickey of Crestview Hills; brothers, John Frederick and Claude Frederick Jr., both of Cincinnati, Chuck Frederick of Union and Clyde Frederick of Amelia, Ohio; and a grandson.

Jarrell Ottie Jeffrey, 75, of Florence, died Saturday at his home. He was a truck driver with Square D Leaseway, a member of VFW Post No. 286 in Wabash, Ind., American Legion Post No. 15 and Teamsters Union Local No. 650, both in Wabash, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Jeffrey; sons, Gary Baker of Union, Randy Jeffrey of Lincoln, Neb., and Jarrell Jeffrey Jr. of Lakeside Park; daughters, Angela Lambert of Verona and Melissa Rice of Lagro, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ollie Dye Jones, 90, of Demossville, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a retired seamstress with Mack Shirt Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Latonia Full Gospel Pentecostal Church. Her husband, William W. Jones, died in 1967.
Survivors include a son, William W. Jones of Villa Hills; daughters, Marie Bryant of Independence, Jean Gray of Taylor Mill and Wanda Gabbard of Demossville; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Hovious Nordmeyer, 92, of Fort Mitchell, died Oct. 14 at Village Care Center, Erlanger. She was a retired registered nurse with St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. Her husband, Joseph Andrew, died in 1960.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Buckner of Kenton County; and a granddaughter.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Uli C. "Boots" Penn, 79, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired maintenance worker for the Erlanger School District, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Erlanger Baptist Church and a musician.
He is survived by a brother, John Ernie Penn of Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews.

Edward J. Schweitzer, 60, of Bellevue, died Friday at his home. He was a retired public worker employee with the City of Dayton. His wife, Carol Schweitzer, died in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Edward Schweitzer of Bellevue; his mother, Elizabeth Schweitzer of Dayton; sisters, Rose Brockman of Dayton, Lorraine Clark and Rita Volkering, both of Newport, and Edna Waltz of Bellevue; and two grandchildren.

Eddie W. Simpson, 53, of Burlington, died Friday at his home.
He was a retired mail handler with the U.S. Postal Service, a member of Burlington Masonic Lodge and a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Sharron Simpson; sons, John Simpson of Edgewood and Arnold Simpson of Erlanger; a daughter, Jennifer Simpson of Florence; a sister, Jewleen Gross of Highland Heights; a brother, Tony Simpson of Florence; and four grandchildren.

Sylvia Smith, 85, of Alexandria, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a retired chemist with Seagrams Distillery, Louisville, owner of a laundromat in Alexandria, the manager of several rental properties and a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Alexandria, where she helped establish a religious education program for students who did not attend St. Mary School. Her husband, Herbert E. Smith, died in 1973. A son, Carl Smith, died in 1978.
Survivors include daughters, Gene M. Smith of Washington, Karyn N. Smith of Decatur, Ga., Marianne Smith, Michelle S. Kiddy and Margaret S. Groeschen, all of Alexandria; sons, Leonard C. Smith of Cincinnati, Terence E. Smith of Edison, N.J., Patrick D. Smith of Georgetown and Jon B. Smith of Alexandria; a brother, William Smith of Randolph, Mass.; a sister, Sister Blanche Marianne Smith, S.C.N., of Louisville; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Donnie Beck Stafford, 63, of Worthville, died Saturday at his home. He was a farmer and a former employee of the Kentucky State Reformatory. A son, Mitchell Wayne Kindoll, preceded him in death.

Mary Sturdivant, 72, of Crittenden, died Saturday in Crittenden. She was a homemaker and a member of Artemus Baptist Church, Trosper. Her husband, Claude Tye Sturdivant, and a son, Ricky Sturdivant, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Renah Milton of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Lana Tuttle of Crittenden; sons, Claude Sturdivant of West Liberty, Terry Sturdivant of Crittenden, Larry Sturdivant of Taylor Mill, Keith Sturdivant of Corpus Christi, Texas, Harold Tye Sturdivant of Moundsville, W.Va., and William Berning of Covington; brothers, Lefther Black of Dayton, Ohio, and James Black of Franklin, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Bobby Earl Teegarden, 70, of Brooksville, died Saturday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer and a member of Powersville Christian Church.

Mary Rose Costa Worstell, 96, of Newport, died at 1 p.m. Friday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a retires saleswoman with Shillito's and Pogue's department stores, a member of St. Lawrence Church, Cincinnati, a volunteer Girl Scout leader and a former volunteer with St. Francis Hospital, Cincinnati. Her husband, Norman Worstell, died in 1981.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
