Barbara O'Brien, 58, beautician, confidante
Barbara Sherman O'Brien was trusted with some of the most closely guarded secrets in Northern Kentucky in a nearly 40-year career as a beautician.
"She remembered everyone and everything, " said her daughter, Andrea Metz of Florence. "But she wasn't a big gossip. No sir, not my mom. She was very sweet. Everyone just loved her."
Ms. O'Brien owned Allen's Hair Salon in Erlanger, but recently had been working part-time at VIP Hair Salon in Edgewood.
Ms. Metz said her mother "could do it all, " but specialized in hair.
Ms. O'Brien, 58, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood, of complications from emphysema, Ms. Metz said.
The Dixie Heights High School graduate grew up in Edgewood, but recently lived in Elsmere. She was a member of St. Barbara Church, Erlanger, and was an avid gardener, her daughter said.
When Ms. Metz became a foster mother, Ms. O'Brien became a foster grandmother, and she delighted in that role, her daughter said.
"She just loved my foster kids. They were her grandkids and she spoiled them rotten, " Ms. Metz said.
Ms. O'Brien is also survived by another daughter, Leslie O'Brien of Elsmere; and a brother, William Sherman of Erlanger.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Barbara Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Mark A. Buchanan, 20, of Southgate, died at 1:24 p.m. Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a waiter at a Friday's restaurant in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his parents, Mary Buchanan of Southgate and Jim Buchanan of Cincinnati; a brother, Shaun Buchanan of Southgate; and grandmothers, Elizabeth Broshears of Cincinnati and Martha Larkcom of Newport.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Walter Lee "Pete" Hall, 75, of Owenton, died Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington. He was a security guard with Elk Lake Resort and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Owen County.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Ruth Hall; a son, Eddie Hall of Owenton; a stepson, Butch McDarment of Pennsylvania; stepdaughters, Beverly Mason of Owenton, Brenda Hensley of Hanover, Ind., and Troi Johnson of Frankfort; a sister, Louise Gentry of Bethel, Ohio; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.
E. Kyle Hammond Sr., 96, of Florence, died Saturday at Woodcrest Manor Care Center, Elsmere. He was a retired teacher and principal in the Newport News, Va., school system and a a retired employee of the Nevada Industrial Commission in Carson City, Nev.
Survivors include a son, E.K. Hammond Jr. of Crestview Hills; a daughter, Betty T. Colonna of San Antonio; a brother, Arthur Hammond of Gate City, Va.; a sister, Pat Brooks of Gate City; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Colonial Heights Retirement Community, Florence. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Christopher House, 31, of Florence, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Anderson Township, Ohio.
Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Ralph McDonald, 69, of Silver Grove, died Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a bookkeeper with W.J. Baker Co., Wilder, and an organist with First Baptist Church of Silver Grove.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma McDonald; a daughter, Angela M. Jump of Independence; sons, David E. McDonald of Silver Grove and Timothy D. McDonald of Latonia; sisters, Bonnie Johnson of Fort Thomas and Judy Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Silver Grove. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 302 Four Mile Road, Silver Grove, Ky. 41085.
Cordelia Moehring, 98, of Hebron, died at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday at Baptist Village, Erlanger. She was a retired teacher with Perry County schools and a homemaker, and a member of Hebron Baptist church and Bullittsville Homemakers. Her husband, Lawrence Moehring, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Charles Patrick of Hebron; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Richwood Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hebron Baptist Church Building Fund, 1483 Petersburg Road, Hebron, Ky. 41048.
Leslie A. Moorehead, 92, of Foster, died Monday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler. He was a retired employee of C&O; Railroad and a member of Augusta Church of the Nazarene. His wife, Ruth Biddle Moorehead, died in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Stanley Moorehead of Foster; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lenoxburg Cemetery, Bracken County.
Virginia Kuper Rechtin, 70, of Southgate, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Henry H. Rechtin; daughters, Beverly Moloney of Dayton and Susan Wilson of Alexandria; sons, Bob Rechtin of Cincinnati, Jerry Rechtin of Dayton and John Rechtin of Latonia; and nine grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Theo Richards, 88, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
