Bernard Brown Owen, school board member
Bernard Brown Owen, a former member of the Carroll County School Board and a financial clerk at the Carrollton Tobacco Market, died Thursday at Bashford East Health Care Center, Louisville. He was 83.
Mr. Owen had lived on his tobacco farm in Ghent until he broke his hip in May.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1941 to 1954 and was part of the occupation forces on Guam, said his brother, Adrian Owen of Ghent. After retiring from the Marines, Mr. Owen was an area supervisor for the Post Exchanges at air force bases in New Orleans, Indiana and Utah.
"He was a pretty sharp man, " said his sister, Norma Lloyd of Carrollton. "He cared about his country."
Mr. Owen returned to Ghent in the late 1960s and became active in the community. He served on the school board and worked at the Tobacco Warehouse.
He was a Shriner, a member of the American Legion and a 50-year Mason with Lafayette Masonic Lodge No. 83. He was a member of the English Christian Church.
Other survivors include a sister, Norma Lloyd of Carrollton. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Carrollton Masonic Lodge will hold services at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The American Legion will hold graveside services Sunday at Ghent Cemetery.
George Worthington Brown, 88, of Elsmere, died Friday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere. He was a retired jeweler for Abercrombie and Fitch, New York.
Survivors include sisters, Mignonette E. Searing of Burlington and June M. Olsen of Greenup; and brothers, Rev. Laurence Dobson Brown of Alma, Mich., and DeWitt Clinton Brown and Wellner Wallace Brown, both of Summerville, Ala.
Graveside services will be Friday in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington.
Virginia Belle Craig Carter, 76, of Fort Thomas, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Carter, died in 1984.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Pope of Alexandria and Connie Prather of Fort Thomas; sons, Charles Carter of Highland Heights and William Carter of Butler; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Ershell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky., 41075.
Bernice Dobkins, 61, of Williamstown, died Friday at her home. She was a waitress at Frisch's Restaurant, Florence, and a member of Corinth Community Worship Center.
Survivors include a son, Steven J. Baker of Mansfield, Texas; daughters, Charlotte Lee Cook of Cincinnati, Sheila Short of Williamstown and Teresa Young of Knoxville Tenn.; sisters, Nancy Pugh of Amelia, Ohio, and Barbara Salisbury of Michigan; stepfather, Lynn Music of North Manchester, Ind.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in West Woodville Cemetery, Clermont County, Ohio. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky., 41011.
Sonny Howard, 53, of Fort Thomas. died Wednesday at his residence. He was a self-employed painter and served on the Erlanger Life Squad.
Survivors include a son, Bill Howard of Cincinnati; a daughter, Susan Howard of Independence; parents, Orville and Jessie Puckett, both of Covington; brothers, Don Puckett of Southgate and Ron Puckett of Latonia; and a sister, Ruthie Fallon of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service today at the funeral home. Lady Evelyn Mulvey, 88, of Williamstown, died Friday at Grant Manor, Williamstown. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Francis Scotty Mulvey, died in 1974.
Survivors include a son, Michael S. Mulvey of Dry Ridge; a sister, Margaret Priel of Louisville; a grandson and a great-grandaughter.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville.

Ronald G. Reilman, 71, of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at VA Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a retired control operator for Cincinnati Gas and Electric, an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Holy Spirit Church, Newport, and the Bellevue Vets.
Survivors include daughters, Tina Cooper of Cold Spring and Angie McGraw of Batavia, Ohio; a sister, Nancy Kaelin of Bellevue; a brother Mark Reilman of Bellevue; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Brighton Center, 706 Park Ave., Newport, Ky., 41071.
Robert L. Smith, 68, of Western Hills, died Wednesday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Western Hills. He was an Army veteran and a former member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Williams Smith of Western Hills; a son, Andrew R. Smith of North Carolina; sisters, Grace Panko of Fort Wright and Helen Henson of Covington; a brother, Carl Smith of Baltimore; and a granddaughter.

Trena Carol Stockdale Tilley, 56, of Coconut Creek, Fla., and formerly of Carrollton, died Thursday at her home.
Survivors include her companion, Raymond Stocker of Coconut Creek; a daughter, Natalie Tilley of San Leon, Texas; and mother, Sally Persell Stockdale of Carrollton.
