James Redmond, managed Mills cafeteria
James R. Redmond, manager of the once popular but now defunct Mills cafeteria in downtown Cincinnati, died Friday at Villa Hills Health Care in Erlanger.
Mr. Redmond, 85, of Bromley, began as a busboy at cafeteria before serving in World War II. After the war, he returned to the restaurant and rose to manager.
The cafeteria, which closed in 1972, was an extremely popular eating spot in the 1940s, '50s and '60s.
"Just about everybody in the area went there, and my father knew them all, " said Shirley Bernard of Crescent Springs.
After Mills cafeteria closed, Mr. Redmond worked at the Gamon-Calment factory in Florence.
Mrs. Bernard described her father as a "perfect gentleman."
"If ever a man got into heaven, he did, " she said. "He was polite to everybody. Everyone else came first. He was a very kind man. He was known as 'Gentleman Jim.' "
Other survivors include Mr. Redmond's wife of 55 years, Jean Redmond; daughters Darlene Adams of Bromley and Sandy Parton of Alexandria; a son, James R. Redmond Jr., of Bellevue, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, 822 York St., Newport. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Entombment will be in Highland cemetery Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.
Florence Retschulte Cahill, 78, of Lakeside Park, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital W est, Florence.
She owned Retschulte Inn Restaurant and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Her husband, Eugene H. Cahill, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Mick Cahill of Lakeside Park and Tim Cahill of Richmond; and six grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Virginia Agrue Caudill, 85, of Crittenden, died Saturday at Woodspoint Geriatric Cent er, Florence.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Homer Agrue and Walter Caudill; a son, Clifford Agrue; and a daughter, Eva Davis. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Albert Agrue of Covington, Floyd Agrue of Tampa, Florida, Grover Agrue of Burlington, and Jimmy Agrue of Owenton; daughters, Ann Stewart of Warsaw, Edith McDaniel of Burlington, Elizabeth Harman of Warsaw, Emma Miller of Warsaw, and Joann Walker of Owenton; 39 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Lucinda Beatrice Gullette, 92, of Edgemont Manor Nursing and Convalescent Home, Cynthiana, formerly of Sunrise, died Sunday at the nursing home.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Living God, Lexington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Estill Gullette, and a daughter, Wilma Louise Gullette.
Survivors include a son, Clyde Gullette of Harrison County; daughters, Grace Vanderpool and Dorothy Gullette Hough, both of Harrison County; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
There is no service. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.

Betty Loraine Fulmer Herald, 67, of Taylor Mill, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She retired as the head of housekeeping at the Commonwealth Hilton, Florence. Her husband, Troy Herald, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Cynthia Keaton of Covington and Kim Hawkins of Florence; sisters, June Davis and Barbara Fulmer, both of Newport; brothers, Robert, Charles, Donald and Shawn Fulmer, all of Newport; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill.

Dorothy Immormino, 88, of Grants Lick, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort T homas.
She was a homemaker and attended St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Kemplin of Grants Lick; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney, Ohio.
Grady T. Johnson, 87, of Moores Hill, Ind., formerly of Carrollton, died Friday at University of Cincinnati Hospital.
He was a former Carroll County jailer, and a retired business owner who operated Sandifer's Tavern, Past Time Pool Hall, The Railroad Inn, a service station and taxi company.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon Witteride of Moores Hill, and Velma Mockbee of Aurora, Ind.; a step-daughter, Violet Lacey of Moores Hill; sons, Elmer Johnson of Aurora and James Johnson of North Carolina; brother, Joe Johnson of Byrdstown, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedars of Lebanon Church, Moores Hill. Ralph W. Lang, 71, of Florence, died Saturday at his home. He was the owner and oper ator of Lang Repair, Florence, a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Lang of Florence; sons, Timothy Ralph Lang of Independence and John J. Lang of Florence; daughters, Kimberly D. Lang of Witheville, Va., and Patricia D. Lucas of Union; a brother, Richard C. Lang of Georgetown, Ohio; a sister, Rita Montgomery of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren.

William H. Miller, 79, of Covington, died Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
He retired from Ford Motors after 30 years of service, and was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Newport First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche Miller of Covington; sons, Barry William Miller of Pensacola, Fla., and Kenneth Dale Miller of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Marjorie Garrison of Dayton; a sister, Dolores Grahm of Georgia; a brother, Ted Miller of Evansville, Ind.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Charles Edgar Murphy, 81, of Florence, died Sunday at the Woodspoint Geriatric Care Center, Florence.
He was a retired electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union for 60 years, a member of Florence Masonic Lodge #949, and a World War II Army veteran. A son, J.T. Murphy, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Cleo Blanton Murphy of Florence; a daughter, Cheryl Borkowski of Florence; sons, Ron Murphy of Florence, and David Murphy of Boston; a sister, Alice Penick of Covington; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Masonic services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Helen Mae Nelson, 79, of Alexandria died Saturday at her home.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Nelson of Alexandria; daughters, Connie Ruschman of Independence, Linda Hightchew of Alexandria, and Joyce Kaufman of Alexandria; a brother, William Ormston of Covington; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mother of God Cemetery, Covington. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the cemetery.

Marieli Reyes, 16, of Southgate, died Sunday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.

Ruth Faulhaber Hohnhorst Saalfeld, 72, of Villa Hills, died Friday at University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
She was a retired third-grade teacher at St. Agnes School, Fort Wright, a past eucharistic minister at St. Henry Church, Erlanger, a member of St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs, and the ladies golf team at Summit Hills Country Club, a founder of the Cotton Ball, and active in the Cerebral Palsy Women's Guild, the Villa Madonna Alumni Association and the Northern Kentucky Mental Health Association. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herman "Bo" Hohnhorst.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Saalfeld of Villa Hills.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church. Visitation will be at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Entombment will be in St. Mary cemetery Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Robert James Shaw, 69, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Nor th, Covington.
He was a retired plumber. His wife, Ruth Shaw, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Barry Shaw of Newport, Perry Shaw of Lexington, and Terry Shaw of Erlanger; a brother, William Shaw of Xenia, Ohio; a sister, Betty Moore of Orlando, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Services and visitation are private and at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Glennard L. Venner, 68, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice U nit, Covington.
He was a data processing supervisor for Frisch's Restaurants and a retired Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, June Davis Venner of Covington; sons, Glenn Venner of Williamsburg, Ohio, and Dale Venner of Covington; daughters, Anita Werner of Beatrice, Neb.,, Amie McRoberts of Covington, Marcia Flaig of Goshen, Ohio, and Naomi Venner of Sunman, Ind.; a brother, Jack Venner of Knoxville, Tenn.; and 16 grandchildren.
