Gene May, 91, Northern Ky.Sports Hall of Fame member
Gene F. May was not only a good athlete, but also a life-long physical fitness buff.
Mr. May, 91, of Fort Wright, a member of the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame, was exercising three times a week until June.
He died at 12:28 p.m. Monday at Villa Spring of Erlanger.
Mr. May was a letterman at Holmes High School in basketball, baseball and football, the only sports offered by the school at the time.
"He was very proud of being a member of the Holmes Alumni, " said his sister, Katheryn Ellen Dupps of Erlanger. "He graduated in 1928." Mr. May, who wrote in a log all his life, will be remembered for the stories and jokes he loved to tell.
"He was a great jokester, " Mrs. Dupps said. "And he had many, many friends. He would go on a lot of senior citizen trips. He always told stories."
During Cincinnati's flood in 1937, Mr. May was the last employee to leave Union Terminal, where he was working as an electrician. He turned off the last light, then left by climbing a ladder.
Mr. May, a retired electrician for the Florida Highway Department, was a member of Community of Faith Church in Covington, Latonia Lodge No. 746 F&AM and Indra Consistory Scottish Rite.
His wife of 53 years, Lucille Bryant May, died in 1983. Survivors also include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Community of Faith Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Ruth Jean Campbell, 72, of Elsmere, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a retired bookkeeper.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph J. Campbell; and a daughter, Deborah A. Teetor of Cincinnati.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., Suite 102, West Chester, Ohio 45069.
Jacque E. Dault, 78, of Covington, died Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home.
Arrangements are pending at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington.
Garland Endicott, 83, of Taylor Mill, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.
Betty Loraine Fulmer Herald, 67, of Taylor Mill, died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired head of housekeeping at the Commonwealth Hilton, Florence. Her husband, Troy Herald, died in 1999.
Survivors include daughters, Cynthia Keeton of Covington and Kim Hawkins of Florence; sisters, June Davis and Barbara Fulmer, both of Newport; brothers, Robert Fulmer, Charles Fulmer, Donald Fulmer and Shawn Fulmer, all of Newport; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Robert Martin, 60, of Independence, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Marjorie J. Kersting, 78, of Covington, died at 8:05 p.m. Sunday at Tri-County Baptist Health Care, LaGrange. She was a cook for Bishop Howard Elementary School. Her husband, Mick Kersting, died in 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Jodelia Geise of Peewee Valley; a son, Michael Kersting of Covington; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday Catchen Funeral, Covington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Ruth McGarr, 75, of Erlanger, died at 2:35 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a former Girl Scout leader. Her husband, John E. McGarr Jr., died on March 21.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ann Hall of Erlanger; a brother, Joe Bishop of Taylor Mill; sisters, Nancy Battaglia of Latonia, Peggy Van Meder of Jacksonville, Fla., Barb Osborn of Florence and Pat Pollard of Walton; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Rosella M. Quinn, 83, of Highland Heights, died Saturday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Donald A. Quinn, died in 1980.
Survivors include sons, Donald Quinn of Yorktown, Va., and Jerry Quinn of San Clemente, Calif.; a sister, Esther Lauterwassner of Highland Heights; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy L. Raaker, 78, of Cincinnati, formerly of Newport, died Saturday in Cincinnati. She was a saleswoman with McAlpin's department stores and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, Cincinnati. Her husband, Louis H. Raaker, died in 1981.
Survivors include sons, Thomas Raaker and Michael Raaker, both of Cincinnati, and Gregory Raaker of Fort Thomas; a daughter, Elizabeth Glassmeyer of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Larry Wayne Raisor, 42, of Carrollton, died Saturday in an auto accident in Henry County. He was disabled.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Ann Robertson Raisor; sons, Larry Wayne Raisor Jr., Timothy Wayne Raisor, Mathew Wayne Raisor and Billy Lee Raisor, all of Carrollton; sisters, Anna Louise Sculley, Patsy Virginia Dixon, Dorothy Ellen Dixon and Rosemary Patterson, all of Carrollton, and Dorothy Ann Raisor of Cynthiana; and a brother, Porter Raisor Jr. of Carrollton.

Ronald G. Reilman, 71, of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a retired control operator with Cincinnati Gas and Electric, a member of Holy Spirit Church, Newport, and Bellevue Vets, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Myrna Reilman, died in 1992.
Survivors include daughters, Tina Cooper of Cold Spring and Angie McGraw of Batavia, Ohio; a sister, Nancy Kaelin of Bellevue; a brother, Mark Reilman of Bellevue; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Brighton Center, 706 Park Ave., Newport, Ky. 41071.
Marieli Reyes, 16, of Southgate, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her parents, Elizabeth Medina Reyes and Sergio Reyes Sr. of Southgate; brothers, Sergio Reyes Jr. and Emanuel Reyes, both of Southgate; a sister, Eliser Reyes of Jayuya, Puerto Rico; and grandparents, Juan Medina Melendez and Rafaela Arroyo Cruz, both of Jayuya.
Services will be in Puerto Rico at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Jayuya Cemetery. Maurice Wallingford, 90, of Maysville, died at 7:18 a.m. Monday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. He was a truck driver with Carnation Milk Co., Maysville. His wife, Wilma Hazel Wallingford, died in 1989.
Survivors include sons, Eldon Wallingford, Dwayne Wallingford and Maurice Wallingford Jr., all of Maysville, and Gerald Wallingford of Cincinnati; a daughter, Lora Wallingford of Cincinnati; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Olivet Church Cemetery, Maysville.
